* PlayingWithSyringes: At the end of the first episode of, Silco and Singed give their experimental PsychoSerum, Shimmer, to a rat before testing it on any humans. The rat's transformation isn't seen on screen, but judging by how it mauls the cat that was chasing it, and how the humans who've taken it end up, it can't have been pretty.

* SmokingIsEdgy: Smoking is almost exclusively seen in the CrapsackWorld of the Undercity. Shots of random shady-looking people smoking are used as set dressing in the Undercity to help establish the edgy tone. Most of the more ruthless, cynical villains, especially Silco and his minions, are also shown smoking.

* SuspiciouslyIdleOfficers: Once Enforcer Marcus becomes involved with Zaun's resident mob boss, Silco, he's ordered to cover all of Silco and his associate's illegal activities. From then on, we never see the newly promoted Sheriff engage in any legal cop business; in all his apparitions, he's either being blackmailed by Silco or doing his bidding. Examples of the latter include punishing Caitlyn for investigating the Shimmer smuggling in Progress Day and attempting to arrest and kill Caitlyn and Ekko at the bridge to retrieve .

* AlternateContinuity: Given the massive amounts of changes to backstories and even personalities, it should be no surprise that the show does not sync up well with the canon lore of the games, often outright contradicting it. When asked, the creators themselves have stated that Arcane does not affect game lore. It's basically like how the MCU affects Marvel Comics; there might be changes due to popularity but ultimately the movies are not canon to the comics. The only time the show may be considered canon is when it depicts events not covered in the lore, such as the dramatic event in her past that shaped Jinx, which is only alluded to in the lore but fully shown in the show.
