If you pay attention to the valley, you'll notice just how it seemed to have been created with Trico in mind, and several Trico statues can be spotted throughout the ruins. Also, [[spoiler:when the Trico "eat" humans, they brand them with tattoo markings that the possessed armors can use to restrain them if they escape. What possible purpose would this serve ''beyond'' aiding the Master of the Valley?]]
I believe that the Trico aren't natural occurring beings in this world; at least, at first. [[spoiler:I believe the purpose of the Master of the Valley, and the reason it brings humans to be sacrificed for ''something'', is to [[ArtificialHuman create more Tricos for the hive]]. The humans life force or what have you is used by the Master to generate more Tricos.]]
[[spoiler:The obvious outlier to this theory is the fact that it's heavily implied in the ending that the boys Trico would go on to have baby Tricos of their own. But this doesn't completely rule out the theory; they may have been created to procreate the 'normal' way to help further propagate the species. Using {{Human Sacrifice}}s is just a way to speed up the propagation of their species; perhaps creating fully grown Tricos in the process instead of tiny baby ones that have to grow up first in order to be useful to the Master.]]

Perhaps the Master of the Valley is a construct of sorts whose original purpose was to try and control those with the power of Dormin inside them, but eventually [[AIIsACrapshoot turned against them]] to serve its own needs.
