Soutarou and Kyouji most likely meet when Soutarou joined Soccer because he though [[IJustWantToHaveFriends it would be a great opportunity to make friends]], this really didn't take off though and he [[HeroWorshipper started looking up to Kyouji]].

Kyouji noticed how Soutarou [[NotSoDifferent wasn't so different to what he is]] and he let Soutarou be his friend because he felt it was the best way for Soutarou to not end like [[StepfordSmiler him]], with the double benefit of having a real friendship for likely the first time ever.

Extinct in real life and known to be smaller than regular wolves, the Kodori family may be the last of their kind in the narrative of the story, which could be why they hold so close to tradition and particular breeding practices to keep their species alive. Part of the reason Gaku became estranged from the rest of the family may simply be his genetic deviance making him far taller than a purebred Japanese Wolf should be.
