* Alternatively, a human girl wished never to forget something or someone when she made her contract with Kyubey. Inevitably, however, she fell into despair and became a Witch. The elephant made up of elephant heads is her Witch form and the Pink Elephants are her Familiars. After all, ElephantsNeverForget, so it would make sense if the Witch form of a magical girl whose wish was to always remember someone or something would be elephantine.

Added a theory regarding the Circus Elephants

This Troper remembers hearing and reading of a Hindu myth, or at least Indian in origin, that said elephants used to be able to fly with huge ears, but when they kept disturbing a buddha, he punished them by removing that ability and large ears (others may kknow of it through one entry in the Series/Eyewitness books). Perhaps this was the case in Dumbo's universe, where the magical process deactivated the genes for such. However, Dumbo's recessive genes, or at least his father's, activated and allowed him to fly.

[[WMG: The reasoning behind the Circus Elephant's redemption in the end]]
Since there wasn't any given scene of the Circus Elephants redeeming after Dumbo sprays them down with peanuts and given the number of animals at the circus, it's possible the other circus animals gave the other Circus Elephants (the Matriarch mostly) a good chewing out, which probably caused the Elephants to redeem how they view Dumbo.

* The [[WhatCouldHaveBeen cancelled]] direct-to-video sequel ''Dumbo II'' confirmed that Dumbo's father was deceased but the real life Jumbo died in 1885 whereas Dumbo takes place in 1941 so Dumbo's father is an {{Expy}} rather than it actually being the real life Jumbo. The early concept art for Jumbo Sr. also depicted him as an African elephant while all the other elephants were Asian elephants.

* This may also explain why he doesn't have very much hair. Baby Asian elephants are usually very hairy and have a full head of hair (like [[WesternAnimation/TheJungleBook1967 Colonel Hathi's son]]). African elephants, on the other hand, are almost hairless even as babies (although babies are still hairier than adults).

** Kept in mind that this is an animated Disney film and obviously not the real world. For example, in [[RealLife]] baby animals don't get delivered to the parents by storks and animals don't talk. Also, there are no flying elephants.

* Dumbo is named after the famous real life Jumbo who was an African circus elephant who was killed in a train accident and the cancelled Dumbo II confirmed that Dumbo's father was deceased. Jumbo died in 1885 whereas Dumbo takes place in 1941 so Dumbo's father is an inspired counterpart rather than it actually being the real life Jumbo. The early concept art for Jumbo Sr. also depicted him as an African elephant while all the other elephants were Asian elephants.

* Jossed. Dumbo is indeed Mrs. Jumbo's son because the storks aren't an adoption agency but a metaphor for birth.

to:

* Jossed. The storks as confirmed by WordOfGod were just SFW way of showing birth for young audiences, especially back then in 1941.
