* TranslationTrainWreck: The game gets hit with this Several cards are incorrectly labeled due to the translation. Blue Medicine does not raise the opponent's Life Points despite what the card says, Deck Destruction Virus is a few times.misnamed Crush Card and has the wrong effect listed, Aqua Chorus is labeled as Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and Mystical Beast Serket has mentions "King's Temple" instead of "Cathedral of Nobles".
** More easily identifiable are the plethora of dialogue errors.

** A late-game duel against a Yami Marik brainwashed Joey becomes high stakes even for Shadow Games, as both losing or winning will cause a Game Over that kills the loser. The only way to save Joey is to force a draw, with Yami Yugi providing the player with Self-Destruct Button and Ring of Destruction to help with that.

* BoringButPractical: Being made during the height of GOAT format, the player has a lot of options and ways to build their deck. That said, a simple beatdown deck focusing on high ATK and one tribute monsters is viable enough to get the player through most of the game without issue.

* EarlyGameHell: Early on you can't tell who duelists are, or even if they are a duelist. Once you defeat Bandit Keith, it becomes much easier to find people as Seto Kaiba upgrades your Duel Disk to judge duelists by a star rating. Non-duelists have no stars, and you can register duelists to make finding them easier.

** Depending on how you answer the opening questions, your starting deck can end up being pretty bad. There are some diamonds in the rough that are worth keeping around to the mid-to-late game, but there's also a lot of gimmicky trash cards that you're forced to use until you get access to the card shop.

* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard: The CPU is able to activate their trap cards right after you draw a card while you have to wait until they do something like activate a card, declare an attack on a monster during the battle phase, or end their turn. This allows them to activate cards to preemptively protect themselves and stuff out your attempts to attack them while you are not allowed the same privilege activating similar such cards to protect yourselffor example, the CPU can activate Wall of Revealing Light on your draw phase and pay enough life points to keep you from attacking them while attempting to do this yourself during the battle phase right as a monster is attacking you will not stop that monster from attacking either your own monster or your life points directly, leading to disastrous results if you paid too much life points and expected Wall of Revealing Light to stuff out the attack on the spot

* CrutchCharacter: Fusion monsters will likely become this from early to mid-game. You don't get access to a lot of options early on, and a lot of the early to mid-game packs have a lot of Fusion support in them. Similarly, most monsters with high ATK will usually require two tributes, while Fusion monsters, despite going minus three in the hand, can, at least, be gotten out without giving up a greater part of your board most of the time. However, come late to end-game, you'll finally start getting access to cards for your main deck that can be gotten out quicker and are generally more powerful than Fusion monsters, in addition to characters starting to run more field nukes such as Mirror Force and Torrential Tribute, which can seriously stall your deck if you lose your Fusion monsters to them. About the only Fusion monsters that remain useful are Twin-Headed Thunder Dragonfor being easily able to search its materials and thins the deck in the process and Thousand-Eyes Restrict if you're running a Goat Control deck.
