* BrokenBridge: You can select the stages as you want, but you cannot finish the City, Ruins or Hell stage before finishing earlier levels:
** The City stage has a low passage that requires Mikey (from Harbor) to pass. So unless you get him, you can't get to that low passage.
** The Ruins stage has breakable blocks, but you can't get past it unless you have Fuuma (from Hell) or King Kong's weapon (both from City).
** The Hell stage has a very high ledge that is only jumpable by huge characters, and by that, we mean either King Kong (from City) or Moai (from Ruins).
** The Harbor stage is downplayed one. You can get past the whole platform with squids that deal 4 damage per contact, but to do so requires super precise timing, thus difficult to do. To pass it more easily, you need to have Simon (from Castlevania stage) since his attack range makes hitting the squids easier.

* LighterAndSofter: The second game is more lighthearted, where the sprites are even more SuperDeformed and the final boss... cries as you damage him. Other bosses are also DenserAndWackier (Ryukotsuki has a muscular humanoid body, Red Falcon rides a ship that shoots you, Dracula (if that's really him) refuses to come out of his coffin and attacks with a extendable punching glove...). The gameplay is also a more straightforward action platformer than {{Metroidvania}}.

* DifficultButAwesome: Simon has the slowest attack speed (albeit with excellent range to make traversing in the Goonies stage easier) and his Holy Cross subweapon takes ''five'' whooping weapon point.
