According to the calender of the ancients, the year of the scorpion is once again upon us.

The tie-in video game adaptation of the hit 2001 film, ''Film/TheMummyReturns'' made for the UsefulNotes/PlayStation2.

!!This video game provides examples of:
* ActionizedAdaptation: The game's levels contains far more action than in the movies. For instance, when getting the Bracelet of Anubis, Rick gets attacked by a gigantic LivingStatue of Anubis as a boss. And an extended level in the London metro absent in the film.

* AdaptationalWimp: Imhotep. Even fully regenerated can be damaged by cats, weapons, pygmies and animals as crocodiles. The use of some special powers can drain the healthbar with Imhotep becoming more mummy-like. In the movies, cats only scare Imhotep when he is not fully regenerated, and ''nothing'' can damage Imhotep. Justified, because would not be fair absolutely in the game having Imhotep as invincible as he is in the movies.
* AdaptedOut:
** No sign of Lock-Nah or Balthus Hafez anywhere in the game. Or the three unfortunate treasure-hunters who got pranked by Alex early on (before getting their souls absorbed by Imhotep) for that matter.

* CanonDiscontinuity: Imhotep's ending is considered this thanks to the release of ''Film/TheMummyTombOfTheDragonEmperor''.
* CloseRangeCombatant: If playing as Imhotep, the player is unable to use firearms and must rely on blades, fists, or grabbing and sucking out the souls of enemies.
* DemBones: For some baffling reason, the jungle level have animated skeletons dressed in Roman armor as enemies.

* EvilVsEvil: Imhotep against the Scorpion King.
* FinalBoss: The Scorpion King.

* MenacingMuseum: Both Rick and Imhotep have levels set at the British Museum after closing time, each with its own share of threats. If you're playing as Rick, you have to fight your way through Imhotep's cult, plus every single mummy in the museum brought to life by Imhotep's power... but if you're playing Imhotep, you're the menace in the museum, pitted against terrified security guards and (later) hopelessly outmatched Medjai.
* {{Narrator}}: Ardeth Bay, as in the original first two films.
* ObviousBeta: While not horribly unfinished, the fact Imotep's ressurection abiltiy is useless after his first level, the fact most levels are shared between Rick and Imotep (And Imotep's unique level being a very simple straight line in contrast to the rest of the game.)gives a distinct feeling the game was somewhat rushed to release alongside the film.

* TakeOverTheWorld: As Imhotep, this is your eventual plan after obtaining the Spear of Osiris. And in the ending where TheBadGuyWins, succeeds!
* TitleDrop: Ardeth Bay says this during his narrations in-between levels.
* VillainProtagonist: If you play as Imhotep.
* WolverinePublicity: Not only the film's poster showcase Dwayne Johnson as the pre-transformation Scorpion King but he is also shown in the cover of the video game, where only his scorpion form is shown in the game.
* YourSoulIsMine: As Imhotep, you can suck the souls out of unfortunate mooks as a FinishingMove. It can restore a bit of your health in the process.
