** An evil empire that spawned a ReligionOfEvil? Nordic mythology theme naming? And of course the opening scroll. All of them are quite reminiscient of ''[[Videogame/FireEmblemJugdral Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War]]'', the latter even being a directly modified version of ''Genealogy'''s ingame opening scroll.

** Inexplicably, the opening theme of the mod uses the ''VideoGame/TacticsOgre'' theme, "Restriction On Power". Specifically, the version from Let's Cling Together.

* AllTrollsAreDifferent: A few of them appear in the game. Most of them are the Cave Beasts, huge white humanoids wielding clubs, who usually live underground; they are mostly met during the DungeonCrawl sequences, although one of the encounter is set outside in the Vaegir lands. There is also a BossBattle in the first gem cave, involving two Cave Trolls (black canine-headed humanoids wielding hammer).

** Several to the movie version of ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings''. The BigBad who appears during the opening dream has the same cloak and helmet that the Witch-King of Angmar while wielding Saruma's staff. Also, two unique weapons come directly from the movies (Narsil and Gimli’s Battle Axe) and the Elvish bow can be a tribute, too.
