** The Parable of the Sower is pessimistic about EasyEvangelism, since some people will hear the Word and sign up immediately, only to abandon Jesus when the going gets tough.

* UsefulNotes/NorseMythology features the DeathOfTheOldGods as a core part of its cosmology. While this does destroy the world it is also treated as a natural part of the order of things, with the universe and humanity being destroyed and recreated in a cycle of rebirth which is seen as neither good nor bad. In fact, the current pantheon are the second generation of gods, and will definitely all be killed one day, except for a handful of minor deities who will survive and get to have their time as the top gods until their time also comes.

* A [[EvilOverlord king]] is given a prophecy that a child born on a certain day will lead to his downfall. He has every infant born on that day in the kingdom killed; however one, a boy of noble blood, survives and is rescued by a peasant couple. They raise him as their son until he comes of age and makes war on the king, who is revealed to have actually been [[LukeIAmYourFather father]], and the FinalBattle ends with them slaying each other in single combat. Standard HeroicFantasy story right? Except that's the story of Mordred, one half of Myth/{{Arthurian Legend}}'s BigBadDuumvirate.

** Norse Gods in the original myths are generally depicted as far more human than Gods of other ancient civilisations or modern adaptations of the myths, including the Creator/MarvelComics version. Most notably they were explicitly not immortal, and it is a plot point in many myths that the Gods can not only die in battle but also of sickness and even old age unless they regularly consume magic apples that grant them youth and health.
