@/SomeSortOfTroper's mind was first made aware of the concept of tropes when he realised that every time a member of Starfleet encountered a force field or energy weapon they would always say it's "some sort of force field" or "some kind of energy weapon". Ensign Harry Kim often fell into this, in fact it was his entire career. The troper would often wonder why if the speaker was unsure of the true nature of the device or was somehow in awe or bemused by it, he would not explain to the Captain why it was so strange. If it was just a normally beaming device or energy weapon, why bother to insert the words "some sort of".

Many years later the troper found the entry SomeKindOfForceField explain that the effect was due to science fiction writer being able to formulate whole sentences on their own which is really disappoint when you think that fantasy writers can come up with whole new languages. The use of "sort" in the troper's name is because in his head he will always hear "some sort of.." instead of some kind of.

The troper has the unfortunately tendency to talk about himself in the third person, so far the only know cure is light spanking followed by the oral sex.

I am pleased to announce the arrival of a new namespace that I springboarded the creation of: {{Analysis}}. Though light in tone, it is meant to be a place for deeper, more thoughtful analysis on the tones and themes of a work and the primary tropes that play within those themes. This is the internet, I have realistic expectations about how well deep and thoughtful do here.

* SeinLanguage - WilliamShakespeare contribution 1700 new words to the English language (where would the internet be without the word "rant), created scores of phrases (from the obvious "to be or not to be" to "with bated breath" and "foregone conclusion") and popularized the uses of various method of phrases constructions such as combiming two adjectives with the word "and". That's right when you say "that was blank and blank" (e.g. "ThisTroper like it fast and loose", "ThisTroper like my women like my coffee, strong and bitter") you probably owe it Shakespeare. SomeSortOfTroper's mind was first made aware of the concept of tropes when he realised that every time a member of Starfleet encountered a force field or energy weapon they would always say it's "some sort of force field" or "some kind of energy weapon".

Similarly Susan Storm can jump around on invisible platforms into the sky and Storm would shoot a strong gust of wind up her backside. I ThisTroper believe Wonder Woman was originally unable to fly directly in the manner of Superman but (as with original superman) they simplified all the handwaves to just give her flight.
** "In Gargoyles, they glide on air currents, and need to hang around volcanoes for the rising hot air currents. " was sort of based on something i ThisTroper said.

* EpicFail and CriticalFailure- I came up with the proposal to set CriticalFailure to the game mechanic and then put EpicFail to use as the page to represent the idea that most people see it as. Then I wrote them up.

* InfinityMinusOneSword - saved from the cut list after I found the original YKTTW for the stub that was left on the page and launched it.

* ExtraExtraReadAllAboutIt - Evening Standard stand traders still do this though no extras. If you ever find yourself at Waterloo in London you might be interested to know that [ "Reehaallbouddit" ] translates as "Read all about it" and "Hetyorhevenstndaarhhd!" is "Get your Evening Standard". - I hadn't realised that this was launched until recently but it's a contribution from quite a while ago.

* Cleared out AnimeTropes and ComicBookTropes of things that didn't fit into the medium as medium tropes as we are to consider them. I will do the same to the other: somebody else said they already did VideoGames, AnimatedTropes looks to be the next big undertaking but this one was set up on the "Hey let's do anime trope but for the west" and made as a set of genre tropes without specifying the genres and has become a huge mix of everything. More genres will need to be made.
