History Tropers / PunkReader

So...here you have me, Punkreader, in a nutshell. Or...not so much of a nutshell.

Punkreader is a largely disillusioned middle-class American teenager who has a very bad case of {{Cultural Cringe}}. She has, as of May 23, 2011, turned 18. She is also an idealist, albiet a self-aware and sarcastic one. She does not understand the popularity (or the social necessity) of things like {{Facebook}}, {{Texting}}, or other forms of social networking. She has myriad disabilities and medical conditions that range in severity and impact from "annoyance" to "rather quite dangerous", but that is neither here nor there, because on the Internet they obviously [[{{Captain Obvious}} aren't obvious]]. With people she doesn't know well, she is shy and quiet, but with friends and on the Internet, she's her boisterous, somewhat snarky, and slightly smartass self. She enjoys volunteering her time at organizations or establishments that help those with disabilities and/or special health needs. Sometimes, thanks to really bad ADHD, she doesn't know when to shut up. [[{{Self Demonstrating Article}} Like right now.]]

'''Dislikes:''' Entirely electronic books, pointless and angsty teen "love poetry," young adult and teen fiction in general, music that serves no purpose for the artist or the audience, much modern pop-music and its derivative genres, her very pale, translucent skin of at times yellow-bluish-purple [[{{Undeathly Pallor}} "corpse-color"]], those who support a cause only by clicking on a button and don't do anything visible, people who go around [[{{Hypocrite}} crowing about their beliefs and then don't actually follow them]], homogenity, and really sweet drinks or desserts.

In general, I greatly appreciate it when people are honest with me, and genuine. It is my personal philosophy that everyone deserves respect, whether I agree with them or not. The same goes for others' beliefs: even if they're on the opposite end of the spectrum from mine, they should be treated with respect; this goes for religion, politics, spirituality, and all the other kinds of beliefs. Mindless bashing without a civil discussion or arguing of points makes me hotheaded...

For those times when I am rude or mean, I apologize. I work hard to control my temper and not complain, but sometimes it just gets the best of me.

* {{Kiai}} My Taekwondo instructor always wanted his students to go with the traditional yell of "Hiyah!" upon attack. I decided it was boring, and changed mine, from then on, to something sounding more like this: "HwuOUH!" while instinctively deepening my voice. It got termed "The War Cry" and surprised ''everyone'' (because I have a ''very'' soft voice when speaking and during the "Hiyah!" it didn't get too much louder.) I was constantly lauded, though, for making it sound "fierce and intimidating." And then the younger kids in my class started trying to copy it. It came out sounding like {{Funny Bruce Lee Noises}}, and had me practically rolling on the floor laughing.
* {{Lets Get Dangerous}} I'm a Blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do, despite numerous disabilities (cerebral palsy and partial blindness among them). I enjoy sparring ''far'' too much than is good for me - my classmates were afraid of me, because I never backed away from a blow, instead taking it full-force and then using the opening it created. My teacher absolutely refused to let me train with weapons.
* {{Martial Arts Does Not Work That Way}} Taekwondo is ''not'' made up of a ton of useless kicks and yelling. And there are ''no flips''. Ever. I might not be very good at kicking, but I'm ''excellent'' with my hands, and I can take direct hits very well. I found sparring fun when I was still allowed to participate in full-contact, but I recognize that many of the gentler techniques (as well as the annoying "okay, now it's your turn to attack" attitude) will not work in a real fight. I have, many times in the past, abandoned the fancy, appearance-garnering moves like high-kicks and most of the blocks and simply begun to ''fight'' realistically - this won me quite a number of matches, which was helped by my opponents ''waiting for their turn''. I also got reprimanded semi-regularly when I dropped form and went all-out with my sparring partner, using so-called "illegal" moves (elbow to the throat/face, front punch into a small opening, blows to the neck, and what got called "overkill" where I simply didn't give my opponent a chance to counter me and took advantage of their shock). There were a few sparring partners I had with whom this was allowed: grown men who outstripped me in size, weight, skill level, or (in the case of one) was a former Marine. We both enjoyed those matches - because I got to really show that I could do more than (as I called it) "flowery, wimpy flailing", and because they got a good challenge. And, let me tell you, it's a ''good'' feeling when you can match a Marine blow-for-blow and keep him visibly working.
* {{Metalhead}} Minus tattoos, extra piercings, and possessing of a sad few band T-shirts. Otherwise, I'm a pretty big metalhead - for some reason, this surprises people who know me in {{Real Life}} but haven't listened to my music. I guess I don't fit the stereotypical image. Not that I care. I do, however, love metal decorations, leather clothing, and am not shy about enjoying my favorite bands.
* {{Misery Builds Character}} For whatever screwed-up reason, a good chunk of my family believed this with me. Depriving a critical athsmatic of her preventive medication ''does not'' build character, you morons!
* {{Most Annoying Sound}} For me, screams of pain and small children when I'm attempting to do my homework and have no way to block out the sound. Screams of pain set me on edge, plain and simple. And little children...I love them, but there I times when I think that all children should be required to play quietly from 2 to 6. When it gets bad, I break out the heavy metal and open ''my'' window. They shut up quickly. Oh, and a couple having very loud sex ''right above my hotel room'' for ''hours''. Seriously, people, ''get some damn sleep''!
* {{Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls}} I'm a girl. I write fanfiction. I also write academic essays and college-level contest entries. I Do The Research for whatever I write.

* {{Nightmare Fetishist}} I enjoy the wierd, the gruesome, and the horrific. Blood? Yep. Corpses? You're making me drool. Essentially, I like everything up to torture. That's my line. But, especially if its medically horrific and bloody, I'll love it. ''Love'' it. It should say something that what I'm looking forward to most if I get to attend medical school are the cadavers and dissection. I'm teaching myself anatomy, and I have a few books on corpses, one of which has the decomposition process in ''lovely'' morbid descriptive detail. No wonder I get called morbid so often - it's a label I embrace with open arms.
* {{No Bisexuals}} Unfortunately, thanks to whatever ''idiot'' decided to start a fad of straight girls kissing other girls to get their boyfriends' attention, this is the reaction that I hear. Some people decided I'm confused or kidding myself, while others are completely accepting. It's due to the sadly popular view of No Bisexuals, though, that I don't mention it in front of people who don't already know me well. Ever. Unless I'm making a veiled joke about myself.
* {{Not So Weak}} I get this assumption from people a lot. I'm small, and I have disabilities, therefore, I'm weak. Then they try and pick a fight with me. I usually hit a nerve with a retort and walk away. Or they hit me, and watch me smile afterwards

Funnily enough, I've gotten so many reactions from classmates (non-sarcastic ones, mind you) of "I didn't know you cursed!", that my standard response has become, "Yes, I curse - now shut the fuck up, you dumb fuck." I have blonde, undyed hair, no piercings other than one in each ear, no tattoos, and I'm a straight arrow. However, the consistancy of being called or thought of as a "punk" at one time or another has led to me adopting the title anyway. The music I listen to is all over the map, but I'm pretty vocal of my partiality for the more caustic, rougher kinds of music.
