[[folder: Where Are You?]]

Raex is sitting beside a campfire, staring into the flames with vacant eyes. Prodding at the charcoals beneath the fire with a stick to stoke the fire, Raex's gaze follows the embers to stare into the night sky. His helmet lay beside him, feeling the fresh, cold bite of winter air against his skin and hair. Raex's copper eyes reflected the wondrously clear night sky, so full of light and stars. He smiles slightly, stretching out and relaxing his posture. It filled Raex's heart with joy to see such luminosity striking through the dark until it didn't. His smile sinks to a neutral expression, his eyes hardening. He looked back to the fire, its orange glow illuminating his fair skin. Even in isolation, in peaceful moments, Raex could not help but think of home. What he was leaving behind troubled his soul, but his duty had called him here to finish a war that long preceded him. To follow a trail long gone cold and avenge his people.

There was no glowing sky in the darkness, only an infinite blackness; no stars to guide them home, no light to illuminate their paths. Not one light to shine on the festering evil that crept up from beneath, but that was not all that was taken. The ground most of Raex's people walked upon was gray, lifeless, unable to harbor what little seeds were left. It cracked and broke apart beneath their boots, so dry from lack of rain that it was akin to walking atop stone. What livestock remained was fouled and turned to corrupted beasts who wanted nothing more than to hunt. They were terrible, mindless creatures of pure rage, seeking to gorge on their favorite meal, humanity, an intentional choice made by that which soiled the planet, demons. Most settlements that rose were crushed by hordes within weeks, even days. Feebly constructed towers and walls mounted by starving men and women stood no chance, an endless cycle of blood, gore, and tears.

A world once verdant turned into a cesspit meant to crush what remained for the inhabitants, then brutalize them. It was within humanity's nature to survive, to adapt, to have ''hope''. It was this nature demons knew well, and so it was Lucifer's final cruel act to eviscerate what made humans human. For those lucky few of humanity who managed to survive and fight back against the hordes, there was nothing to feed on but their hunters. They filled their bellies, not knowing their blood would soon be yearning for their kin's flesh, a slow, insidious disease that tore apart settlements of humanity.

Most of what remained would either die or fall, becoming depraved cannibals feasting on the flesh of their brethren. For many of the early years following the end of the war, humanity was lost. Yet there was always a flicker of hope, the strongest of humanity resisting the urge to feast on corrupted flesh, content with sour bread as they pushed ever-forward, praying to a God they knew not dead for salvation. It was this faith that kept them uncorrupted, driving them until they found the last patch of verdant ground remaining. New Eden, dozens of miles of brown, fertile ground, and a single lake facilitated a new beginning, the sole bastion of hope for humanity, which has since stood for two hundred years.

It was here that Raex was born, held to the highest standard of humanity, relentlessly trained to defend his home, and when the time came, to strike back against what brought humanity to its knees. As Raex peered into the flames, it was this duty, his alone to bear, that plagued his mind. Of all his battles, the cost of failure was never so high, yet he had never been more sure of himself. Raex yawned, slowly lowering himself to lay flat on the dirt, resting his head on a firm rock. Staring up at the stars one last time as he dozed off to sleep, a single thought surfaced.

Tales from the Krampusverse - An Improper Funeral]]

As
Raex is sitting beside walks across the sunbaked terra toward the destitute ruins of a campfire, staring once prideful bastion, the city of Glamis Aurora, he can't bear to move his gaze from the ground. The sun's harsh reflection off the dead dirt has been burning into Raex's eyes for hours, each step the templar takes toward his goal slower and slower. Doubt swallows the young templar as he brings his head from its slumped position to observe the huge obelisks of permafrost jetting up through the ruins like carnivorous mountains.

As the sun had destroyed fertile ground and evaporated swathes of ocean, it had not yet quelled the scars of a war long past. Raex reached the ruins of the front gate, peering deep
into the flames with vacant eyes. Prodding urban ruins, his gaze settled far in the back, at the charcoals beneath base of one such icy pillar, where a silhouette of a husk stood. Sighing, Raex raised his foot to step over the fire with mound of rubble where a stick to stoke massive gate once stood, slowly stepping into the fire, ruins of Glamis Aurora.

Raex's gaze follows the embers to stare into the night sky. His helmet lay beside him, feeling the fresh, cold bite again wanders low, dozens of winter air against his skin decomposed, sun-baked corpses and hair. Raex's copper eyes reflected the wondrously clear night sky, so full of light skeletons buried beneath rotten wood and stars. What livestock remained was fouled and turned to corrupted beasts who wanted nothing more than to hunt. They were terrible, mindless creatures of pure rage, seeking to gorge on their favorite meal, humanity, an intentional choice made by that which soiled stone flooding his vision--Raex's eyes quake at the planet, demons.

For many of the early years
sight, following the end of main road with cautious steps. His armored boots clinked against the war, cobblestone path, as many thousands of feet had centuries ago.

As he neared the obelisk, the husk before Raex was silent, still, fallen to his knees before the ice, the cold radiating from it a comfort. The templar rested a gentle grip on the greatsword sheathed on his back, stopping a few feet away from the husk.

[[blue: "It's time to go home, Luke."]]

The husk croaked a guttural, air-sucking wail of pain and lost
humanity was lost. Yet there was always a flicker of hope, that struck Raex to the strongest center of humanity resisting his being. The husk began to rise, the urge squelching sound of tearing flesh as his legs were stuck to feast on corrupted a puddle of his blood that poured from him and stuck to the cracks in the cobblestone path. The husk's arms quaked, bloated veins pressed tightly against dehydrated skin.

[[evil:[[gold: "I... am... home."]]]]

The husk spat out each word with strenuous effort, vocal cords tearing to produce an unrecognizable voice to the templar. Raex pauses, becoming as motionless as the husk before him.

[[green: "This has been nobody's home for some time."]]

The husk slowly turned to face Raex, shards of the icy obelisk embedded deep into his
flesh, content with sour bread as they pushed ever-forward, praying slowing what necrosis had already transpired. The husk's flesh was gray, blots of purple spattered across his body.

[[evil:[[gold: "My... home."]]]]

The husk slowly states, raising a limp hand
to smack at his chest, severing some flesh on the hand by striking a God they knew not jagged edge of permafrost. Raex peers past the husk to the armor he had shed, his brother in arm's helmet at the top of the pile.

[[blue: "No Luke, it isn't."]]

Raex's gentle retort only angered the husk, a furious croaking roar erupting from the bowels of the already
dead for salvation. man. Raex swallows air, not afraid, but unsure if he could kill what stood before him. It wasn't the man he came to find, who he had spent weeks following a trail to save. Returning the favor, Raex believed. The templar's neutral facade sunk, slowly pivoting to leave. The husk was this faith that kept them uncorrupted, driving them until they found motionless, watching as his once ally began to walk away.

Raex stopped, taking a shallow breath. The templar clenched his fist, shaking as he slowly drew his greatsword.

[[green: "I... can't leave you here."]]

Raex turned to
the last patch husk, already on his knees before the icy obelisk. Lowering the tip of verdant ground remaining. New Eden, dozens of miles of brown, fertile his blade to the ground, and a single lake facilitated a new beginning, the sole bastion of hope for humanity, which has since stood for two hundred years.

It was here that
