I removed the “Accidentally Correct Writing” example. This was about the joke about Homer claiming a proud Naval tradition in spite of having just joined the navy, when it’s suggested that Abe being in the navy showed the family really did have one. As a minor technical point, the scene of Abe being shown in the navy occurred before the scene with Homer making that remark (contrary to what the example states). More notably, this trope deals with cases where facts which the writer introduces (with no expectation they would be true) later turns out to be true. In this case, a writer wrote something which Fridge Logic may suggest is truer that it first appears (based on evidence presented by the writer themselves), which is not this trope.

* AccidentallyCorrectWriting: While it was more likely a simple writer oversight, there's a joke where Homer calls out Bart for being a disgrace to the family's "proud naval tradition" (as in, he joined the Naval Reserve mere weeks, or even days, ago). Later in the episode, Abe is swapping war stories with old veterans and talks about being on the PT-109 with UsefulNotes/JohnFKennedy (and beating him up after mistaking him for a Nazi).

"Sneaked" is just such an awkward word to me.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: In the original draft, Bart sneaked on board the submarine with Homer. The writers were trying to do it "for the comedy of it", but could not get the draft to work, so it was cut.
