* FranchiseOwnershipAcquisition: The Spyro the Dragon series, a series developed by Insomniac Games initially as Platform/PlayStation exclusives, was originally owned by Universal Interactive until 2003. Spyro was then sold to Vivendi in which that company in turn sold the series to Creator/Activision in 2008. Creator/ActivisionBlizzard would then be acquired by Creator/Microsoft, Irony a company that makes among other things the Xbox series of consoles, in 2023.

* ExecutiveMeddling: Heck, this whole franchise was built around this trope. Originally, Sony of America wanted to create a "kid friendly game and character for the UsefulNotes/PlayStation" (considering the games at the time were... rather adult and teen oriented), hence the creation of the franchise. Like most game releases, Insomniac never had the full rights to the franchise, so when they wanted to move to Sony as a publisher, Spyro remained with Universal. The series became a FranchiseZombie until purchased by Sierra, who being way past their time ended up being bought out by Activision along with the rest of the Universal/Vivendi group, who then created Skylanders.

This is a YMMV item. Moving to there.

* CommonKnowledge: Most people assume that either Creator/InsomniacGames sold the Spyro rights to publisher Universal Interactive Studios before moving on to VideoGame/RatchetAndClank2002 or that Universal gave them a crummy deal where they had the rights all along. In actuality, Universal always had the rights to Spyro and it isn't an uncommon practice even today. For example, the Franchise/RatchetAndClank rights went to Sony when Insomniac moved to them, which is "no better" than the situation with Spyro.
