** The rather controversial idea of limiting what Pokémon you could transfer up to those in the regional dex was originally going to be introduced in this generation, rather than the next. Remnants of the design choice can be seen in how only a few in-game CPU trainers The Nugget Bridge homage trainers, as well as before the Battle Tree use non-Alola Dex Pokémon, even in the postgame.

Unlike Go, however, this boom did not lead to a massive InternetBackdraft among the fanbase.

*** Despite the confirmation, fans still held on to the idea that the region would be connected to Kalos in some way. Unfortunately, in the finished games, aside from the Zygarde formes and Sycamore's assistants, there were very few references to Kalos. However, due to Kalos' massive sequel hooks, many fans still acknowledge the fact that Pokémon Z was clearly in development at some point, but was shafted in favor of Alola, or that Z will be released in the future as part of another generation.

** When the stats of certain Pokemon was leaked one of them was Wishiwashi in its School Form. Many people calculated it's Attack stat to be 180 (which is on par with Mega Rayquaza, Primal Groudon and Deoxys-A) and it's special attack to be 210 which would of been the highest in the franchise beating Mega Mewtwo Y. The calculations were false, however, as it has an attack stat and special attack stat of 140 instead.

* NoFairCheating: Game Freak is very aggressive in finding and banning players with things like unreleased items or Marshadow in their save files. Game Sync allows these things to be detected, and the ban hammer is coming down. Banned players can't participate in global missions, rating battles or online competitions.
** Also, players have been banned from the GTS for doing giveaways, where players deposit ComMons and ask for a high level Pokemon in return. The reward is a strong but often hacked or modified Pokemon, and Game Freak likely also thinks it clogs up the GTS so other players can't get trades they want. Trading too many Pokemon too quickly can get you banned for anywhere from a few minutes to days or weeks. Unfortunately, it backfired as well, as innocent players have gotten wrongly banned and were unable to get their accounts restored any faster than was already decided.
* ProductionForeshadowing: The Strange Souvenir, a useless Tiki idol item found in the VideoGame/PokemonXAndY was supposed to come from "some region far from Kalos". This was actually a hidden hint to the next games taking place in a Hawaii-esque region.

* DigitalPiracyIsEvil: The debacle where some players downloaded a CIA of the full game that leaked on 4chan a few days early. They tried to go online early, promptly got banned...and then proceeded to complain about it.
