* CreatorKiller: This is the first film Trevor Wall directed, and its [[JustForPun absolutely icy reception]] has a strong chance of making it his only directing job outside of television.

* AllStarCast: The movie has a good mix of celebrities like Creator/RobSchneider, Creator/HeatherGraham, Creator/BillNighy, and Loretta Devine, and plenty of acclaimed voice actors like Mikey Kelly, Creator/CandiMilo, Creator/KateHiggins, Creator/CharlieAdler (who's also one of the movie's voice directors), and more.

* NoBudget: The film was made on a low budget of $18 million, and it shows.

** This was originally intended to be a DirectToDVD feature, and the low-quality shows it.

** Earlier drafts of the film had a simpler and more coherent plot, with Norm actively leaving the Arctic to find a better life and eventually winding up in New York by accident, where he'd be discovered by Mr. Greene and become the mascot for his campaign. Norm would not have found out until later that Greene's plan was going to harm the Arctic, forcing Norm to choose between saving his home or retaining the luxurious lifestyle he'd finally achieved. However, script rewrites would allow for the story to drastically change into the bizarre film that it is today.

* DuelingMovies: With Creator/DreamWorksAnimation's ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda3'' (which has ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' alumni Creator/JKSimmons in it; ''Norm of the North'' actually has the voice of Korra herself, Janet Varney, in a cameo role). As far as quality and gross go, DWA [[CurbStompBattle stomped]] ''Norm of the North'' into a pancake... [[ForegoneConclusion then again, it was bound to happen]].

* The first sequel was originally announced as two separate 45-minute films, titled ''Keys To The Kingdom'' and ''The Arctic All-Stars'', respectively. The two were ultimately spliced into one film, simply titled ''Keys To The Kingdom'', in order to make it feature length and secure a theatrical release in some territories.

* BoxOfficeBomb: Grossed only $9 million on its opening weekend against a $18 million budget. Its final gross was $17 million domestic and $27.4 million worldwide. Despite that, the film made enough money on video that two sequels were released.

* MagnumOpusDissonance: Downplayed, but still present. Creator/{{Lionsgate}}'s official website proudly displays the film in their Family section between the notably more popular ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTheMovie2017 My Little Pony]]'' and ''[[Film/PowerRangers2017 Power Rangers]]'' films, implying that it's at least equal to them.

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The movie takes place in a modern New York City and has a ''lot'' of references to current culture. One of the selling points was the fact that Norm is a polar bear that can twerk. Many critics and viewers have called it the worst case of WereStillRelevantDammit since ''Film/Annie2014''.

* BillingDisplacement: In the UK posters, Creator/JamesCorden and Creator/BillNighy are both given top billing with the [[Creator/RobSchneider lead]] [[Creator/HeatherGraham actors]], while Creator/ColmMeaney and Creator/KenJeong are not listed at all, despite being more prominent characters. Corden being billed third is particularly egregious as his character is only in two scenes and [[VoicedDifferentlyInTheDub doesn't even have the same voice in the film's other English dubs]].

* MissingTrailerScene: Or Missing Trailer Line, to be precise. The line "I'm big boned!", despite [[TrailerJokeDecay being used in every main trailer]], is never actually said in the film.

* TheOtherDarrin: Thanks to the below-mentioned leak. The first sequel's credits confirms that the returning characters from the first film will be voiced by none other than actors from Creator/TheOceanGroup. Maya Kay (Olympia) is the only returning cast member.

* VoicedDifferentlyInTheDub: Creator/MichaelMcElhatton voices Lawrence in most English dubs of the film, but was dubbed over by the more well-known Creator/JamesCorden for the film's UK release.

* BillingDisplacement: In the UK posters, James Corden is listed third, before Creator/BillNighy, despite playing a minor character who doesn't even have the same voice in the US dub.

** Originally, the plot was originally meant to be more coherent in structure: Norm would have just ditched his community when the ice caps mysteriously began to disappear in order to live a comfy lifestyle in an abandoned research station. However, an unknown force would have caused Norm to wind up in New York City rather than him deciding just to go there, where he would have been discovered by Mr. Greene, who pawned him into becoming their mascot. Norm would have discovered later on that Mr. Greene is the one responsible for destroying the Arctic, which would have led to a decision whether he should save the Arctic or retain the cozy lifestyle he had once demanded. However, script rewrites would allow for the story to drastically change into the bizarre film that it is today.
