Misplaced, moving to the correct tab

* IKnewIt: [[spoiler:Since the beginning, there were a lot of fans who predicted that Orga will die at some point given how he invoked a lot of "[[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]] vibes". Episode 48 confirmed this prediction though it happened [[HopeSpot at the worst possible moment]]]].

** While Orga Itsuka is the kind of character Creator/JohnnyYongBosch may sometimes voice (a tough young leader), the very fact that his Japanese VA is Creator/YoshimasaHosoya, a voice actor known for his baritone voice, would most likely fit into this, seeing how Johnny's vocal pitch is usually higher and younger than Hosoya's.

Unsubstantiated speculation.

*** If you compare Iron-Blooded Orphans to say, Gundam Seed Stargazer, Stargazer has the ENTIRE arc of a standard Gundam show, a la Seed/Destiny/00 in literally 50 minutes of content, in an ONA. Iron-Blooded Orphans barely covers half of the standard seven or so plot points in 16+ hours. [[spoiler: Iron-Blooded Orphans has a main character die in a drive by, and apparently the director and scriptwriter debated on straight up having everyone die not only at the end of season 1, but in season 2. Biscuit's death is likely the beginning of the "everyone dies" trope, in homage to the original creator of Mobile Suit Gundam, from "Kill-em-all" Tomino, until, and we can only speculate that this was the case, Bandai told the director that a season 2 was coming out somewhere after episode 20, in real time, as they were making the episodes. This also explains why EVERYTHING in the ending of season two handwaves away the entire premise of IBO's universe in about 15 minutes of exposition.]]

* RelationshipVoiceActor:
** A ''lot'' of the cast worked in ''Anime/AldnoahZero'', namely Natsuki Hanae, Kengo Kawanishi, Taishi Murata, Ai Kakuma, Takahiro Sakurai, Sho Hayami, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Ryota Ohsaka, Makoto Furukawa, Tohru Ohkawa, and Kosuke Toriumi. Also applies in English, as both dubs feature Max Mittelman, Zach Aguilar, Bryce Papenbrook, Michael [=McConnohie=], Erica Mendez, Erica Lindbeck, Christine Cabanos, Julie Ann Taylor, and Carrie Keranen (among others); in addition, Lex Lang directed the dubs for both ''Aldnoah.Zero'' and the second season of IBO. Doubly funny when you consider that for some of its fans, this show is described as "a better ''Aldnoah.Zero''."
** There were also cast members involved in ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure''; Creator/ToruOkawa (Rustal Elion) Creator/KentaMiyake (Galan Mossa), Creator/UnshoIshizuka ([=McMurdo=] Barriston), Creator/DaisukeHirakawa (Savarin Canele), Creator/ShowHayami (Iznario Fareed), Creator/AtsukoTanaka (Amida Arca), and Creator/TakahiroSakurai ([=McGillis=] Fareed), were, respectively, The Narrator, [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders Mohammed Avdol, Old Joseph Joestar, Noriaki Kakyoin, Vanilla Ice,]] [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureBattleTendency Lisa Lisa,]] and [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable Rohan Kishibe.]]
*** In English: Creator/JohnnyYongBosch (Orga) is Jonathan Joestar, Creator/KeithSilverstein (Chad) is Speedwagon, Creator/WendeeLee (Amida) is Lisa Lisa, Creator/BrycePapenbrook (Eugene) is Caesar Zeppeli, Creator/JulieAnnTaylor (Fumitan) is Holly Kujo, Creator/DougErholtz (Akihiro) is Jean Pierre Polnareff, Creator/RayChase (Rustal) is Rubber Soul, Creator/GrantGeorge (Iok) is Steely Dan, Creator/ZachAguilar (Takaki) is Koichi Hirose, Jalen K. Cassell (script writer for IBO season 2's dub) is Okuyasu Nijimura, Creator/DCDouglas (Jasley) is Yoshikage Kira, and Creator/DavidVincent (Naze) is the narrator. Bonus points for Stardust Crusaders airing alongside IBO season 2 on Toonami.
** Creator/TakahiroSakurai ([=McGillis=]) and Creator/YoshimasaHosoya (Orga) previously worked together in the Japanese dub of ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' as Edward Cullen and Jacob Black respectively.
** Another one for Takahiro Sakurai, but this time with Creator/MasayaMatsukaze. Both have been comrades in a (formerly war-based) mecha show before, as [[TheHero Bit Cloud]] and [[TheLancer Ballad Hunter]] of Anime/ZoidsNewCentury. They also acted in another (this time war-based) mecha show as [[Anime/{{CodeGeassAkitotheExiled}} Suzaku Kururugi and Shin Hyuga Shaing]].
** Many of the English voice actors also worked on the dub for ''WebComic/OnePunchMan'', which aired alongside the first season on Toonami. Most notably: Creator/MaxMittelman, Creator/ZachAguilar, Creator/ErikKimerer, and Creator/RobbieDaymond are also Saitama, Genos, Sonic, and Mumen Rider, respectively. In short: Ein is now bald, Takaki becomes a cyborg, Biscuit loses weight to be a Ninja, and Gaelio now rides a bicycle.
** IBO also shares a good portion of its cast with yet another Toonami show airing alongside it, ''Manga/HunterXHunter''. Among the more notable relationships: Creator/EricaMendez (Cracker Griffon and Elgar) is Gon, Creator/CristinaVee (Lafter) is Killua, Creator/KeithSilverstein (Chad Chaden) is Hisoka, Creator/RobbieDaymond (Gaelio) is Chrollo, Creator/ChrisHackney (Masahiro Altland) is Illumi, Tom Bauer (Hush) is Feitan, Abby Trott (Julieta) is Machi, Griffin Burns (Yamagi Gilmerton) is Shalnark, Creator/EricaLindbeck (Azee) is Pakunoda, Creator/DavidVincent (Naze) is Phinks, and Creator/MaxMittelman (Ein) is Meruem.

Names The Same is no longer a trope

* NamesTheSame: This series is notable for having some character names and surnames taken from previous Gundam series.
** This extends to the main Gundam. The name Barbatos was already used for a boss in one of the ''G Generation'' games.
** The name of the WetwareCPU system, ''Ālaya-Vijñāna'' (Japanese: 阿頼耶識 ''Araya-shiki''), was also an explicit plot point in the {{Franchise/Nasuverse}} LightNovel and {{OVA}} ''LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners''.
** Bizarrely enough, the Dainsleif is also the name of a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A1insleif sword from]] Myth/NorseMythology and an [[https://dainsleif.bandcamp.com American Melodic Folk Metal band]].

** While Itsuka Orga is the kind of character Creator/JohnnyYongBosch may sometimes voice (a tough young leader), the very fact that his Japanese VA is Creator/YoshimasaHosoya, a voice actor known for his BadassBaritone voice, would most likely fit into this, seeing how Johnny's vocal pitch is usually higher and younger than Hosoya's.

*** Note: in the interview itself, Okada states that the last Gundam show that she herself watched (on broadcast) was G Gundam, which aired in 1994, a whole 20 years before the airing of Iron-Blooded Orphans. For fans of Gundam 00, Seed and Destiny (the few that apparently exist), it explains why IBO is completely different.

Misuse of The Maiden Name Debate. That trope is about an engaged woman who is unsure about changing her surname.

** On MyAnimeList, there are a series of production credits, with "Yatate, Hajime", a pseudonym for the Sunrise production company, having either "Original Creator" or "Producer" credit on most/all Gundam shows. While Seed, Seed Destiny and 00 all have "Producer" credits mentioned for Yatate, there are no producer credits given to Yatate here, only "Original Creator", along with Tomino, who as far as the fans of Gundam can tell, had no direct input on IBO.

Fan Nickname is now an Audience Reaction per TRS. Since there is a long length of examples, I am moving them to their own page.

* FanNickname:
** Todo Mirconen, the DirtyCoward from the old CGS management with the square mustache, immediately earned the nickname "Hitlerstache guy".
** After Episode 8, Naze Turbine has earned the nickname "[[SexyManInstantHarem SUPER PIMP]]" (as a nod to [[Creator/KosukeToriumi his voice actor's]] previous role as [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamAGE Asemu "Captain Ash" Asuno]]) or "Space Pimp" (since well, Anime/SpaceDandy's already taken). Also "Space Fellini" or "Not!Fellini", thanks to his strong resemblance to [[Anime/GundamBuildFighters The Italian Dandy]] himself.
** Iok Kujan (the dreadlocked Gjallarhorn officer in Season 2) got the nickname "Space Nils" for his near-semblance to Nils Nielsen as he appeared in ''[[Anime/GundamBuildFightersTry Build Fighters Try]]''. Beginning with his actions during Season 2 Episode 11 though [[spoiler:(firing at the Mobile Armor, thus leading it to a lightly-populated Agricultural Area)]], he has been tagged as "[[EpicFail IdIOK]]" by detractors. His mistakes are so egregious and he's so ignorant of them that the nickname [[https://www.reddit.com/r/idIOK/ even got its own subreddit]].
** Akihiro has become [[Manga/{{Berserk}} Space Guts or Gundam-Guts]]. They're both orphans raised as child soldiers who found their family in a group of young mercenaries; They're muscular guys who throw everything into fighting, as well as being BookDumb, stoic, and ObliviousToLove. Akihiro even looks suspiciously similar to Guts with the hunky build, spiky hair, and BigOlEyebrows. By way of extension, his Gundam is now called the ''[[IncrediblyLamePun Guts]]''ion. On a sadder note, both suffer [[spoiler:having their LoveInterest subject to horrifying events, although Casca at least had a hope of being cured until it actually happened while Lafter is never coming back]].
** In relation to the abovementioned, "Pepe Gundam" for the pre-Tekkadan Gundam Gusion, as its facial features resemble [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/pepe-the-frog Pepe the Frog.]] By extension, "Pepe Zaku" for the Man Rodi. This reached AscendedMeme status in the video game ''Gundam Breaker 3'' when the Gundam Gusion appears ''making a frog croaking sound.''
** [=McGillis=] gets called Chocolate Man due to Mikazuki calling him that since their first meeting, where he handed out chocolate to Cookie and Cracker as a make-up present for nearly running them over. Season 2 repeats this with Mikazuki this time on the receiving end. On some image boards, this nickname gets changed to [[CharClone Chocochar]].
** In connection to Akihiro's nickname above, [=McGillis=] later gets tagged as "[=McGriffith=]". Which falls into HilariousInHindsight territory as Creator/TakahiroSakurai has been voicing ''[[ActorAllusion Griffith himself]]'' since ''Anime/BerserkTheGoldenAgeArc''. Doubly so now that Creator/SteveStaley has taken up the same role as of ''Anime/Berserk2016''. Then came Season 2 Episode 18, where the nickname goes full circle into "Space Griffith," and by the end of the show the strength of the comparison is beyond dispute. Combined with Akihiro's "Space Guts", people started calling the entire show "Space Berserk".
** After Episode 13, Almiria Baduin got called "[[VideoGame/KanColle Akatsuki]]" by some fans for being [[JustAKid way too]] [[ProperLady similar]] to the said fleet girl, down to the same hair color. As a result, jokes about [=McGillis=] being a closet [[FandomNickname Admiral]] are aplenty.
** "Artichoke Vagina" for the Ālaya-Vijñāna system due to fans giving up on trying to remember the correct spelling for the words. On Twitter, Creator/EricaMendez, Creator/KyleMcCarley, and Tom Bauer call it the "Creator/VicMignogna System" instead.
** "Mace-chan" for Barbatos' primary weapon, after a running joke on Reddit in which [[https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/3wmuve/spoilers_mobile_suit_gundam_ironblooded_orphans/cxxenbd it's personified as being "thrown away" during the Brewers arc]]. Its eventual replacement is, naturally, Wrench Mace-chan. The weapon is so iconic that it floating in space is the last image of the first season finale.
** "17-Year-Old" for Carta Issue, thanks to being played by Creator/KikukoInoue. Alternatively, "Kabuki Lady," prior to her introduction, for looking like an actress in a Kabuki play; or "Kitsune Lady" for having fox-like features on her hair. Fanart of her with fox ears are aplenty, as a result. "[[Anime/KillLaKill Satsuki]]" also got some traction on Twitter during the Toonami airing, on account of Carta being played by Creator/CarrieKeranen in English.
** With the reveal on Episode 23, [[spoiler:"[[IncrediblyLamePun EINDroid, or FrankenstEIN]]" for the Graze Ein. Others have even called it a "[[TabletopGame/Warhammer40000 Not!Dreadnought]]" or "[[VideoGame/RType R-Type Graze]]" due to its configuration. Also [[Franchise/{{Robocop}} Robo-Ein]]]].
** [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain Mikazuki "Punished" Augus]] [[spoiler: in light of the fact that his right arm and right eye have been badly handicapped during the first season's final battle,]] adding on to the already numerous jokes that Orga is Big Boss and Tekkadan is Diamond Dogs [[RecycledInSpace IN SPACE!]] Vidar from Season 2 also inherited the nickname, after [[spoiler:he's revealed to be Gaelio in Episode 43]].
** The Hugo is often being called "Sahelanthropus" because the head resembles a certain [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain humanoid Metal Gear]].
** The Hashmal mobile armor is nicknamed as [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2SonsOfLiberty Metal]] [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4GunsOfThePatriots Gear]] [[VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance RAY]] due to its resemblance[[note]]all three versions, actually[[/note]].
** There's a reason why some start to call the show [[VideoGame/MetalGear Metal Gear Gundam]]. By Episode 42--when Tekkadan virtually goes through with a cold-blooded, guns blazing RoaringRampageOfRevenge in exchange for one too many betrayal and oppression--the phrase [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain "In Outer Heaven, men become demons"]] is just about appropriate.
** Speaking of Mikazuki, thanks to his high kill count throughout the series (named or otherwise), his [[TheStoic usually cold personality]], and his [[PintSizedPowerhouse short stature for a early-stage teenager]], fans have immediately dubbed him "The Murder Manlet."
** On the merchandise side, before the HG 1/144 heavily-armed red variant of the Gundam Astaroth was tagged with the "Origin" name, it was mistaken for a custom model kit from ''Anime/GundamBuildFighters'' instead, leading to the nickname "Amazing Red Barbatos" (since it looked like it could belong to Meijin Kawaguchi III).
** The reveal that mobile suits were created to defeat the AI-control dragon looking Mobile Armors made some people nicknamed Calamity War as [[VideoGame/MonsterHunter Mobile Armor Hunter]]
** "Sword Holder" for the Helmwige Reincar, due to its [[{{BFS}} Valkyrja Buster Sword]] being borrowed by Mikazuki to take down the Hashmal.
** Jasley Donomikolos (the Teiwaz NumberTwo rocking a [[FurAndLoathing cow skin coat]]) quickly earned the nickname "[=Cowprint McGreekname=]", with just a few episodes of his appearance in the series. The Chinese-speaking fans nicknamed him as "Butt Chin (屁股下巴)"

* TroubledProduction: Courtesy of an interview translated on a blog, we were able to hear Mari Okada's take on how Iron Blooded Orphans was going, in her eyes, as of around the end of season 1, based on context clues in the interview itself. Some highlights include:
** She said that the Iron-Blooded Orphans concept was in production for a "few years" before she was brought on, despite that she was working with this same director on other projects with him at the same time.
*** It was revealed later that the director, Tatsuyuki Nagai, brought her on because he couldn't manage the script or storyboarding and basically didn't have/want anyone else to turn to, or at least that's easily implied from the interview, because she's surprised herself that she was brought on for this project, considering that she was brought on at least 2 years after initial funding started.
** Also in this interview, there is the following verbatim text from Okada talking about the director: "Usually, I’m the one who goes wild without really thinking about how to proceed, and Director Nagai is the one who steps on the brakes and stops me. But this time, he was the one who started dancing in the nude, so-to-speak (laughs)."
** The animation quality is much improved in season two as compared to season one. There are numerous examples of completely flat mobile workers, faces missing pupils, etc.
*** This isn't exactly surprising, considering that a normal Gundam show has around 35 studios given credit for 2nd key animation, In-Between Animation, Digital Paint, etc. and IBO has around 50.
