One joke in a period piece to another time does not make it an example of this.

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: While it's a period piece set during TheGreatDepression, there are some jokes that were based on when the film was made, in TheEighties, that make less sense today. Johnny notes that his gang has to diversify, or else the Japanese gangs will run them out of business, an obvious reference to the belief held at the time that [[JapanTakesOverTheWorld the U.S. would soon be dominated by Japanese companies/culture]], which would soon become discredited after Japan suffered a severe economic recession through TheNineties.

* [[Film/TheUntouchables Elliot Ness]] is Johnny Dangerously! I guess he could be corrupted after all.

YMMV

* RetroactiveRecognition: Hey, that's [[Film/BatmanReturns Batman and the Penguin]] sitting together in the restaurant scene! And, just as he'll do a few years later, [[ProductionForeshadowing Batman causes the Penguin's death]].
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: The VHS release of the film, due to rights issues, did not feature [[Music/WeirdAlYankovic Weird Al Yankovic]]’s opening song “This is the Life,” despite still crediting him on the box. This is averted on the DVD release, which does feature it.
