Old Shame is In-Universe only

** The "Rock-A-Billy" gimmick where he became the prodigy of the Honky Tonk Man. He said that it might have been good, but the costume and entrance music they picked meant it would have been a disaster. Thankfully it was quickly ended and he hooked up with Road Dogg for a boost.
** Averted with the controversial 'Billy & Chuck' storyline, as he still enjoyed it.

Wait, what was this doing here? Memetic Mutation is YMMV, not Trivia

* MemeticMutation: After something Edge said in a 2001 promo, a wrestler messing up an opportunity at a big push is said to have "Billy Gunn'd it" - after his failed King of the Ring push.

** He came very close to making a one-off appearance in WWE again in 2022, as part of a D-Generation X reunion segment on RAW. This was sadly not to be due to a disagreement between WWE and AEW: The latter wanted to be mentioned by name at some point during the segment, which WWE declined to do.

** He noted that "The One" was a pretty weak gimmick, but also conceded that he at least wasn't made to dress up as a cowboy due to all the hassle he went through at airports with his prop six shooters.

* BreakupBreakout: Was the more successful tag team partner of both the Smoking Gunns and the New Age Outlaws. Bart Gunn's US career is nowhere near as successful as Billy's for the former. For the latter, he won one more Hardcore title, two more Tag Team titles (with Chuck Palumbo) and lasted two more years in WWF after the Road Dogg left.

He lost a match against the Right To Censor meaning that he had to drop the 'Mr Ass' moniker. This was due to the PTC protesting against it, and the name having to be constantly bleeped out on re-runs of shows. This is why he was renamed 'The One' Billy Gunn instead.
** His 2001 heel turn against Edge got quietly dropped as the Invasion storyline started. Billy was on the WWF side, so became a face again.
