* ''LightNovel/ShakuganNoShana'' has one very early on; not even halfway through the first season, we are treated to the permanent disappearance of [[spoiler:Yukari Hirai, the girl whose place in the world is sort-of taken by Shana]]. And here, "permanent disappearance" is NOT a case of NeverSayDie. [[spoiler:''[[CessationOfExistence Her very existence will slowly vanish from everyone's memories, and when everyone forgets her,]] [[RetGone it will be as though she never existed at all.]]'' We get to watch Yuji try to prevent this. We get to watch her go from TheCutie in one appearance to EmotionlessGirl in the very next. To the point where she ''barely acknowledges the same guy she was hopelessly in love with'', and Yuji is happy because this is better than her now-usual reaction. Yuji at one point gets her to take a photo with her aforementioned LoveInterest, which she is holding...when she finally disappears. And when Yuji picks up this photo, ''he doesn't see her in it, despite the fact that she just vanished right next to him''.]] '''Damn'''.

Ultimately averted in "Future," a short story in the anthology "Shakugan no Shana SIII." The kanji chosen for Miyu's name, 悠, means "distant sound." On some small, unconscious level, the Sakais remember their son. In addition, when Margery passes around one of the Treasure Tool Chorde's ring and instructs Yuji's family and friends to pray over it (the one ring is connected to Chorde's other rings even in Xanadu, so their love if not their words will be received by Yuji and Shana), Miyu becomes fixated on it and demands, as much as a baby can, a turn with it.

** [[spoiler: In the end Chigusa Sakai and Kantarō Sakai will likely never remember the existence of Yuji Sakai, treating Miyu as their only surviving and second child and Miyu will never meet her older brother and most likely will never know anything about him unless Kazumi say something about him to her.]]

When a Crimson Denizen attacked, he made a contract with Behemoth to become a Flame Haze so he would have the power to fight back. He drove the monster off, only to find that no one in the kingdom, not even his own father, remembered him anymore.
