[[folder:Episode 21 - Anything Pierce Can Do I Can Do Better]]
* Lucifer spends the episode trying to outdo Pierce and making passive aggressive digs at him that only annoy Chloe. Finally, Linda helps him realise what he needs to do: find Chloe and tell her the truth that he wants her to pick him, because he's in love with her. He hurries to her place, just in time to see her accept Pierce's proposal.

* The opening scene with the traffic cop from the very first episode is mostly funny, but also a bit of a tearjerker. Lucifer is initially happy to see the cop again and learn that he spent the money on cocaine. Then the cop reveals that because of his substance abuse the LAPD barred him from promotion, with his wife later leaving him and taking his house in the divorce. Lucifer looks utterly horrified that he inadvertently ruined the poor guys life, and genuinely appears pretty concerned when the cop asks for more money.

** As if this moment isn’t crushing enough? When Trixie moves towards Lucifer, Chloe is behind her, having dropped to her knees on the floor when Trixie came in. When Trixie asks Lucifer to tell her it’s not true, ''because he never lies'', you watch Chloe double over in the background with a sob before he even answers: both because she knows his answer is going to crush her daughter, but also because it takes away her own last hope that it isn’t real.

* Lucifer sadly reminiscing his partnership with Chloe "once upon a time". He used such distant words because to him, it's been ''[[YearInsideHourOutside thousands of years]]'' since he last saw Chloe, even though it's really only been two months since he moved back to Hell.

* Lucifer has an epiphany that he hates himself.

to:

* After spending the episode trying to push Eve into [[PleaseDumpMe dumping him]] Lucifer finally steps up and tells her he doesn't want to be with her anymore. When Eve lists all the ways she's tried to fit into his life (joining in with his hobbies, getting close to his friends) Lucifer replies that she shouldn't ''have'' to change to be with him. He also admits that he doesn't like the person he becomes when he's around her.
* Lucifer has an epiphany that he hates himself. himself and that's the real reason his wings have becomes so monstrous.
* Dan is consumed with guilt over tipping off Tiernan and putting his own daughter in harm's way. He ends up getting completely wasted at Lux and trying to goad Maze into beating him up as a punishment. Maze refuses to go along with it leaving Dan even more depressed.

** This carries particular punch because Frank was probably the first person that Lucifer befriended simply because he liked them: Chloe's immunity to his powers fascinated him from the start, Maze pretty much exists to be his servant and protector - if a particularly irreverent one and Doctor Martin is, first and foremost, his therapist who he saw as a vehicle to work out his issues.

* Malcolm's family were so happy he'd awakened from his coma. Which makes it worse when Malcolm has become abusive towards them (as a result of returning from Hell). When Chloe visits his house, she found his wife was so afraid of him that she almost shot Chloe. Their son wasn't there, so one can imagine how he felt about his dad now. Not to mention if they ever learned that Malcolm was indeed a DirtyCop all along. We don't know what became of them following Malcolm's death.

** Amenadiel's reaction is particularly heartbreaking when you realize that despite everything Lucifer's done, Lucifer ''hasn't'' fallen. His wings were still pristine (albeit unattached), and he still has his powers of persuasion and super-strength, even after five years of supposedly betraying his purpose.

* Lucifer's story of his family is saddening because people can easily identify with it: They once were quite happy then Dad began tinkering in the garage on a project (humanity), Mom became cold and distant, and so when one of the kids started acting out (Lucifer), Dad threw him out and Mom stood there and did nothing.

* Dan and Chloe's divorce is finalized. Particularly sad for Dan, and he presumably has himself to blame. It all happened when he shot Malcolm, and to protect Chloe, let her think she was crazy about the Palmetto incident. In the first season they tried to give each other another chance. But then he was kidnapped by Malcolm while he was texting Chloe, Malcolm texted that Dan doesn't want to see her. Dan was able to escape, but couldn't say anything to Chloe, who's angry at him. Eventually Dan was forced to tell her when Malcolm framed Lucifer for murder, and Chloe was extremely pissed at him for {{gaslighting}} her. He made up for his mistakes by placing himself under arrest to clear Lucifer. Though he himself was cleared by the next season as the department want to put the whole thing behind them, so he end up doing grunt work. Thus Chloe being his superior, and was still upset with him. While they try to work things out, Dan decided they're not good together anymore.

* An underlying one. Just when Lucifer has accepted that he loves Chloe and they're inches away from kissing, one of his ex's walks in on them and interrupts the moment, essentially scaring Chloe away. Lucifer tries his damn hardest to make her see that he wants to give their relationship a shot, but she doesn't want to listen. While she probably has understandable reasons to be wary (Lucifer's reputation, still wounded from her divorce), it's still hard to watch them interact, especially in the stake-out van. It gets to a point where Lucifer fully believes that he's unworthy of her; his speech is both a SugarWiki/{{Heartwarming Moment|s}} and TearJerker. It's a good thing that Chloe changes her mind at the end of the episode and kisses him.
* Lucifer's reaction to hearing his past lovers saying that their relationship is just about sex and it's meaningless.

** In this world, Dan never married Chloe and thus Trixie doesn't exist. It also means Dan is now a fully corrupt cop who flees the city with Charlotte and a pile of money...unaware all they're doing is damning themselves to Hell.

* Dan visits Charlotte's grave and, in a rare moment, breaks down after finally learning of Lucifer being the Devil, knowing that while Charlotte is in Heaven (as Amenadiel told him), he feels he will still go to hell no matter how much he tries to be better and fears for himself, Chloe, and Trixie. Makes Michael planning to manipulate him ''far'' worse.

** Him tearfully asking why his father, literally God, can't just fix him and stop him feeling like this. For all that we've spent 5 seasons watching Lucifer in therapy, this feels like the most raw and heartfelt look at how a neglectful parent has damaged Lucifer's self worth possibly beyond repair.

** It's sad to see that only Rory is there to see her mother in her final moments. WordOfGod is that Trixie and possibly Chloe's friends are in another room when it happens, meaning that they all collectively miss out being by her side when she
dies.
