* Charles and Genevieve finding the true identity of the Ripper, Jack Seward. Though his crimes revolt them, they can't do much more than pity him and while they consider handing him in, they know to do so would invite Dracula's wrath much in the way that Van Helsing was publicly impaled and his corpse was left on display, speculating that Jack might be left alive and just tortured slowly.

* The vampire "newborn" child Lucy slowly dying as a result of the corruption of Dracula's bloodline, which Genevieve is helpless to do anything about except try to ease her suffering. Lucy's own birth mother and the one who sired her are equally uncaring about her wellbeing and both abandoned her some time ago.

* The entirety of the events in Buckingham Palace, including leading up to it:
** Mycroft, at this point the only one left in the Diogenes Club, presents Charles with what is essentially a suicide mission: to enter Buckingham Palace with a silver scalpel and kill Dracula, which he will almost certainly die doing. Mycroft seems sad to discuss this, noting that any of the Club would do the same and Charles knowing he means this. Genevieve and himself enter the palace after accepting the invite as "thanks" for [[MercyKill mercy killing]] the Ripper, knowing their odds of survival are slim to none.
** The walk up to the throne room, where Joseph Merrick (better known in real life as the "Elephant Man") is kept alive [[CruelMercy as a meagre retainer and pet for Dracula to mock]], while Mina Harker (at this point the only "surviving" member of the original ''Dracula'' cast apart from old Vlad Tepes himself) is kept as a "trophy" and left to [[IHateYouVampireDad curse the man who killed her husband, her friends and cursed her to live forever in what she calls "hell"]].
** The crown jewel - almost literally - is the state of Queen Victoria, sired as a vampire and kept shackled to Dracula himself, implied to be reduced to a SexSlave mocked by Dracula's "brides" and helpless to do anything but watch as her "husband" lets his mooks butcher innocents for sport. It's impossible to blame her, when she's thrown a silver scalpel by Charles, for not opting to shank Dracula and instead [[IDieFree turning the scalpel on herself]].
** Merrick [[HeroicSacrifice throwing Charles the silver-tipped cane]] [[YouShallNotPass and holding the door to delay Dracula in the hopes he can buy enough time for Genevieve and the wounded Charles to escape]].

!!Anno Dracula
* The general state of John Seward, the SoleSurvivor of the original party with both Art Goldaming and Mina Harker vampires and everyone else dead outright. The man was once a proud doctor who had aspirations to help the hurt and do good in the world, but the trauma of seeing Lucy, Quincy, Jonathan Harker and Renfield die in front of him, combined with his and Van Helsing desperately hiding in a vain effort to evade Dracula's mob and ending in his old mentor being dragged away, was enough for him to beg the vampire Mina to kill him... yet she refused. All that remains is little more than a shell committing VanHelsingHateCrimes in a misguided crusade, killing vampires completely innocent of any actual crimes.
* After [[TokenGoodTeammate Captain Kostaki of the Carpathian Guard]] and Inspector Mackenzie, a [[BadassNormal warm]] constable, start to form a good working relationship and friendship, Kostaki tries in vain to save him from being stabbed and is framed for the policeman's murder, for which he is imprisoned in the Tower of London under Count Orlok.

Though his crimes revolt them, they can't do much more than pity him and while they consider handing him in, they know to do so would invite Dracula's wrath much in the way that Van Helsing was publicly impaled and his corpse was left on display, speculating that Jack might be left alive and just tortured slowly.
