* ''Literature/UniversalMonsters'': Late in book 4, Stacy [=McDonald=] has been kidnapped by Imhotep for use in reviving his love Anck-Su-Namun. After she's rescued, she's less worried about the ''living mummy'' and ''being kidnapped'' than by the fact that the mummy stole her weave, and "Now I look stupid".

* ''Literature/UntilEveryDropOfBloodIsPaid'': During the civil war, both sides become affected by inability to prioritize needs, but it tends to affect the Confederacy more.
** The Confederacy states are so obsessed with "states' rights" that they're unable to pool their resources for the common good. For example, when North Carolina manages to produce a large number of military-grade clothing and boots, they decide to hog it all for their state militias, while the armies that could really use them are forced to go without.
** When Breckrinridge commands the impressment of slaves in order to bolster up defensive efforts against the Union war machine, the slaver aristocracy blocks it, claiming they'd rather see the Union destroy everything than let the Confederate government infringe on their "rights".
** In order to battle large-scale famine, Breckrinridge orders a drastic increase in the production of staple crops. After [[spoiler:the October Coup]], this order is rescinded... and the farmers that decide to sell what they have at high prices are the least stupid, because others decide the best option is to just keep part of the harvest for their own use ''and burn the rest'' so they can plant cash crops.

* In Kea Thompson's ''We Eat Our Own'', a loose fictionalization of the making of and controversy surrounding Film/CannibalHolocaust, the fictional director (like the real life director) is so committed to his artistic sensibilities that he allows himself to be tried for murder for ''almost a year'' before his lawyer finally convinces him to give a straight answer and [[spoiler: produce the actors.]] Additionally, the major reason the trial even went forward is that one of the props masters gets set on fire during a stunt gone wrong, and the director films everything rather than even try to help. Needless to say, it's all very much PlayedForDrama.

* In Boris Akunin's ''A Children's Book'', Lastik is a FishOutOfTemporalWater in the 17th century, [[DeliberateValuesDissonance therefore]] the local attitudes frequently become an example of the trope in his eyes. In particular, during feasts, the boyars are infuriated with False Dmitry's liberalism in culture as well as politics, so they recall that Ivan the Terrible used to sack dogs on his guests and beat them to death with an iron staff — but even ''he'' never introduced (gasp!) ''ballroom dancing''.

* In ''Literature/{{Animorphs}} #9: The Secret'', Cassie morphs into a skunk and mothers some kits, then falls asleep and nearly goes past the two-hour time limit. Jake calls her out for this by saying there are far more important things to worry about, such as the mind-controlling aliens invading Earth.

* In ''Literature/AreYouThereGodItsMeMargaret'' Margaret has to do a group project with [[SlutShaming "bad girl"]] Laura Danker, Philip Leroy, and Norman Fishbein. Margaret (who has been believing all the rumors about Laura) doesn't want to talk to her, is irritated that Philip doesn't help at all and goofs off when they're working, and that her AbhorentAdmirer Norman reads moving his lips. But worst of all is that the project is on Belgium, which she thinks is a boring country. She eventually takes her frustrations with everything out on Laura while they're at the library, and [[WhatTheHellHero Laura calls her out on it.]]
