''The Odd Couple'' is an American sitcom which ran for five seasons (1970–75) on Creator/{{ABC}}. It was devised by Creator/GarryMarshall and his writing partner Jerry Belson, based on the [[Theatre/TheOddCouple 1965 Broadway comedy play]] by Creator/NeilSimon and its [[Film/TheOddCouple1968 1968 movie adaptation]]. It was the first series produced by Creator/{{Paramount}} Television that was based on one of the studio's films (as well as the start of Marshall's relationship with Paramount, which would go on to encompass both TV and film); PTV predecessor Creator/DesiluStudios had produced ''The Greatest Show on Earth'', inspired by the 1952 Paramount feature ''Film/TheGreatestShowOnEarth'', before Desilu became Paramount's TV division.
