* ''Super Gauntlet Gold & Silver'' ran from February 19th, 2024 to February 22nd, 2024, and featured the games ''VideoGame/PokemonGold'' and ''VideoGame/PokemonSilver'' played at the same time on interconnected Super Game Boy 2 peripherals.

In-between games, intermissions took place featuring various spin-off games, some of which were able to connect to the ''Super Gauntlet'' save files to [[OldSaveBonus transfer Pokémon or data from them]]. These included ''VideoGame/PokemonStadium'' and ''VideoGame/PokemonStadium2''.

** Early on, Arbok was referred to either as "Orochi", the Japanese word for "serpent", or "Wrapsnake", due to its frequent use of the Wrap move. After being renamed to "AAAIIRR", the name "Airbok" began to catch on instead.
** Vileplume was sometimes called "Ollie" early on as an unnamed Oddish. After being renamed to "[=VNT---x((?=]", it began receiving names like "Vent", "Ventplume", or "Vincent" instead.
** [=BTLmNNNNo=] the Hypno was regularly called "Battlemon" by the chat.

** The Marowak in ''Super Gauntlet Silver'' was named "GASTER", after the character from ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}''.

It's 10 years later, and they still need to beat Misty.

** When visiting the Trainer House in Viridian City in ''Super Gauntlet Silver'', XYY found himself facing NEEKO, the protagonist of the ''Twitch Plays Pokémon Silver'' sidegame of Season 9. Meanwhile, the Trainer House in ''Super Gauntlet Gold'' also turned out to feature a previous protagonist, this time RITCHIE from the ''Twitch Plays Pokémon Yellow'' sidegame of the same season.

* VisualPun: Whenever a game reached the end credits, an urn would be placed on screen next to the console, referencing the term "teh urn" used by the community to designate the winning attempt at defeating the final boss of a given game.

** In the episode on War, Christof Rage states that "propaganda is when Russians make red posters with moustachioed men kissing children". Usul himself confirmed that it was a deliberate reference to the famous line from ''Film/OSS117LostInRio'' about how dictatorships are "when people are communists, when they are cold with gray hats and boots with zippers".

** Christof Rage shows shades of this in the episode on War, making numerous comments throughout to complain that the episode is unfunny and overly sanctimonious, before eventually making a "response" video of his own in which he accuses Usul of not knowing what he's talking about, lists all the games he "forgot" to talk about, and suggests that he might be "against liberty".

** The fan abbreviation DADA for Defence Against the Dark Arts was used in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheHalfBloodPrince'' and the fan nickname Voldie for Voldemort was used by Peeves at the end of ''[[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallows Deathly Hallows]]''.
** Prior to the seventh book, Draco Malfoy's family home had never appeared or been named, though it was implied to be some kind of castle or mansion. Fans assigned it the name [[AlliterativeName "Malfoy Manor"]], which became ubiquitous in fanfiction before eventually being made canon in ''Deathly Hallows''.

* ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'' is a gold mine of ascended memes:
** Ever since the commercial for ''Shamwow!'' become popular on the internet, people have been comparing Creator/VinceOffer to [[FragileSpeedster the Scout]]. As of one update to the game, The Scout's in-game dialogue includes no less than 3 quotes from the commercial. "No other class gonna do that!" Even the website made to chronicle the update makes a ''Shamwow!'' reference or two.
** The "FYI I Am A Medic" Medic achievement is named after the "FYI I Am A Spy" spray and [[https://youtu.be/29RE0blCV84 associated YouTube video]].
*** The Spy update also gave us the "FYI I Am A Spy" achievement which is unlocked by killing an enemy Medic that has just healed you.
** The Spy update announcement, in the form of a mail-order catalog, featured an item called the "Crab walking kit". This is a reference to an [[AscendedGlitch in-game bug]] which causes the spy to walk very strangely when certain conditions are met, and is a common pastime amongst spies not about their backstabbing business.
** Also with the Spy update comes as a new taunt for the spy's cigarette case that pops up randomly and has him pose like a crab and snap his hands like claws.
*** [[https://youtu.be/_prZ0JrbQrU The Sandvich]]; fans had been suggesting its incorporation into the game since its first appearance in "Meet the Scout".
*** Although it should be noted that [[EarlyBirdCameo they like to hide upcoming items in "Meet the..." videos]]. (See also: The Pyro is carrying his flare gun in Meet the Sniper, released before the Pyro update came out.)
** Then, of course, there's the disembodied voice of the announcer. Disembodied, that is until [[http://makani.deviantart.com/art/mission-begins-in-five-102983857 a fan drew her]]. And then [[http://www.teamfortress.com/war/administrator/ it became official]]. (They even hired that specific fan to draw her!)
** The FanNickname "crocket" (a rocket that rolls a CriticalHit, infamous for being especially devastating) is referenced by a Soldier achievement ("Crockets are such BS" for randomly firing two in a row) and a Heavy achievement ("Crock Block", for surviving a a direct hit from one, which is only possible when at full normal health or overhealed).
** The term "Demoknight" (a Demoman that uses unlockable weapons to focus on melee attacks) is referenced by an item set called "One Thousand and One Demoknights".
*** One of the [[EliteMook Special Robots]] in [[TheWarSequence Mann vs Machine]] Mode is known as the "Demoknight", and like the Demoknight, wields both an Eyelander and a shield.
** Several bot names are this, such as [[https://youtu.be/LJbY4ixm_ZM Mentlegen]] and [[http://www.nerfnow.com/comic/6 CRITRAWKETS]].

* ''FrFranchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
* ''FrJeuVideo/PokemonRubisOmegaEtSaphirAlpha'' : Bastien, le second Champion d'Arène, déclare avoir "découvert le secret de la vraie puissance en fixant un Nautile pendant des jours et des jours", en référence à l'obsession de ''FrLetsPlay/TwitchPlaysPokemon'' à constamment "consulter" le Fossile Nautile.

** In ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite2'' the developers referenced the [[https://fbcdn-profile-a.akamaihd.net/hprofile-ak-prn1/276605_198438218141_3942683_n.jpg "Youngster who likes shorts" meme]] with a girl who [[http://www.vgfacts.com/attachments/full/1/1057.jpg likes her dress because it is comfy and easy to wear]].
** Also referenced in ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'': with a youngster [[http://nowgamer.net-genie.co.uk/siteimage/scale/0/0/364726.gif also into shorts]]
** A subtle one in ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'': Inspect the back rooms of your character's house and you will see that Game Freak has finally included a bed for your mother, in response to years of fan comments about how she presumably sleeps on the table since your house only has one bed (yours).
** The last trainer you face before entering the courtyard outside the Elite 4's compound in X and Y will inform you that "my body is ready."
** Another example has an NPC ask the player if they like Pokemon. After answering yes a couple of times, she will give you a Poke Doll, in reference to the "so i herd u liek mudkipz" meme.
** An American Valentine's Day card references the meme revolving around posting a Slowpoke when someone is late to notice something. The card has a Slowpoke on it and says "Happy New Year!"
** Many jokes exist about the move "Fly" and "Surf" and how the protagonist can apparently ride very small Pokemon. For the 20th anniversary of the series a ton of official art of the protagonists was made. A few feature them riding tiny Pokemon.
** Since 2014, fans have been drawing fanart of [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/pokemon-variants what Pokemon would look like if there were different subspecies or breeds]]. Two years later, [[https://youtu.be/3AZHowhxM0U a similar concept]] was officially introduced for ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon''.
** A long-standing joke among fans is how Snorlax's sprites/models, when ordered by generation, make it appear like it's trying to stand up. It finally accomplished this feat in Gen 6... and, come Gen 7, it gains (via an exclusive Z-Move) the ability to jump to an extreme height, then slam on the opposing Pokémon. Looks like standing up gave it a little too much power. This is actually referenced in an official trailer for the game.
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'', [[http://sgcafe.com/2016/11/pokemon-sun-moon-pokes-fun-igns-much-water-review-pokemon-oras/ one of the possible comments for Poké Finder photos is "7.8/10, too much water"]], referencing the infamous line from the IGN review of ''VideoGame/PokemonOmegaRubyAndAlphaSapphire''.
** Not exactly video game-based, but one of the many memes inspired by the Courage Wolf meme was a Slowpoke one where he would boast about something that's already happened. [[https://www.pokemoncenter.com/slowpoke-valentines-relaxed-fit-crewneck-t-shirt-741-02396 They've made a shirt like this]].
** Hiker David became (in)famous among players of ''Pokémon Sun and Moon'' for unexpectedly crashing Kiawe's trial (though Kiawe later tells you it was intentional). Not only does he get [[AscendedExtra a larger role]] in ''VideoGame/PokemonUltraSunAndUltraMoon'' (including Kiawe [[spoiler:nominating David as his successor]]), but you get a mask of a Hiker (suggested to be of David specifically, as it has his dumb grin from when he crashes the trial) for the Alola Photo Club.

* ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'':
** ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosForNintendo3DSAndWiiU'' features two online battle options, named "For Fun" and "For Glory". When playing For Glory, all matches are No Items, Final Destination. (All characters remain available, so no Fox Only.)
** In ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'', Snake's codec conversation regarding [[VideoGame/FZero Captain Falcon]] is basically HAL Laboratory lampshading the popularity of the "Falcon... PUNCH!" by having even Snake and Otacon say that they've been dying for an excuse to say it themselves.
*** This tradition is continued in the next ''Smash Bros.'' game with some of the Palutena's Guidance conversations; for instance, when discussing Samus, the conversation covers her IAmNotShazam status, as well as Link's and Pit's.
** After "[[UsefulNotes/DwightDEisenhower We like]] [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Ike]]!" went memetic from ''Brawl'', Nintendo's official UK Twitter feed ([[BrickJoke them again]]) posted a screenshot of Ike being apparently eaten by a stage hazard monster in the fourth game with the phrase "Somebody likes Ike".
** Ryu's reveal trailer references the Sheng Long meme mentioned above by having him say that actual, properly translated version of the line. Apart from replacing "Sheng Long" with "my Shoryuken", the rest of the wording is identical to the memetic version.
** When Villager from ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'' was announced, they spawned a meme where they became a violent, MemeticBadass axe murderer. When VideoGame/{{Bayonetta}} was revealed as a newcomer, official art made to coincide with that showed Villager on the 'evil' side of the screen (though strangely [[VideoGame/PunchOut Lil Mac]] and [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Charizard]] were also on it).
** After well over a decade of memes about him being too big for ''Smash'', the heavily-demanded [[Franchise/{{Metroid}} Ridley]] was finally confirmed for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' at E3 2018 with the tagline "Ridley hits the big time!" His Palutena's Guidance segment also starts with Pit shouting "RIDLEY CONFIRMED!"
** The overused "No Items. Fox Only. Final Destination" meme goes full circle with ''Ultimate'' actually bothering to show a clip of ''Fox all alone in Final Destination''.
** Thanks to the [[CharacterDerailment dubious reception]] of ''VideoGame/MetroidOtherM'', jokes about Samus and [[MadnessMantra the baby the baby the baby the baby]] are common. Then, in [[VideoGame/Persona5 Joker's]] [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate Classic Mode]], you get to fight Samus ''and'' Dark Samus. The Persona music they chose for this particular fight? ** There's also an achievement called "You Did What!?" whose flavor text says, "You got 50000 on Double Dragon!?", which is a reference to an infamous scene in the movie ''Film/TheWizard'' where Fred Savage says both quotes after having left his character's brother alone at a Nintendo Playchoice-10 arcade machine for a while.
* The ''VideoGame/DwarfFortress'' Help screen concludes its short explanation of Fortress Mode with "Losing is Fun!", a catchphrase originally coined by the forums regarding the game's difficulty and the tendency of forts to spontaneously go to hell (metaphorically or literally) for any number of reasons.
* ''VideoGame/PokemonGo'': In their update notes, Niantic (developer) put "Minor Text Fixes" as one of the things they changed. Players who felt Niantic should be spending time fixing other problems with the game made this a meme to mock them. In the v1.3.1 patch, Niantic made sure to mention "No Text Fixes" in their notes.

** Rin (a girl who has no arms) "hugs" Hisao by moving right next to him and declaring "I'm hugging you, Hisao". This had previously been a meme originating in a fan-sketch. [[spoiler:Towards the end of her route, in her bad ending, it becomes a FunnyAneurysmMoment.]]

** [[spoiler:However in her good ending this meme takes another meaning as she randomly stretches her arms which Hisao interprets it as her hugging the world.]]
** Toward the end of Lilly's route, the meme in which she asks "Who's there? No answer, it must be that deaf bitch"[[note]]Lilly, being blind, can't see Shizune, and Shizune, being deaf-mute, cannot hear or respond to "Who's there?"[[/note]] gets referenced when she asks Misha, Shizune's interpreter, to get something for her. Shizune does so instead, but there's a twist; [[spoiler:the two have put aside their differences]].

'''Hisao narrating:''' No reply. No reply, that is, save for [[spoiler:an odd grin... no... smile... on Shizune's face]]. A couple of seconds pass before Lilly clicks that it isn't Misha behind her, but Shizune. Her momentary look of surprise is replaced by [[spoiler:a slightly bashful smile]].

** The scene of Homer walking back and disappearing into some bushes from "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS5E16HomerLovesFlanders Homer Loves Flanders]]" became a popular reaction meme online. It was then used by Homer as a response to Lisa in the Season 30 episode "The Girl on the Bus".

%%The ''Iwata Asks'' interview for the games can be read [[http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/ds/pokemon-black-white/0/0 here]].

Oscar Lemaire
@oscarlemaire

** In the post-game, you gain access to a location known as the Challenger's Cave. Aside from a few items, some higher leveled Pokémon from non-Unovan regions, and a few trainers, the place is nothing special on the surface. However, while going through the cave, you can encounter the trainer Veteran Shaun. He has a party of six, powerful Pokémon, including Gyarados, Excadrill, Gigalith, Druddigon, Crobat, and even Snorlax. All of which are probably about fifteen to twenty levels above your current party, assuming you dive right into the cave after beating the main story.

** Watson et Iris possèdent chacun un Tranchodon de niveau 43, là où Incisache n'évolue qu'à partir du niveau 48.
** Pieris possède un Scalproie de niveau 50 lors du premier combat contre lui, alors que Scalpion n'évolue normalement qu'à partir du niveau 52.
** [[spoiler:Ghetis]] est un exemple particulièrement notoire, possédant un Trioxhydre de niveau 54, pas moins de ''10 niveaux'' plus bas que celui où devrait ordinairement évoluer Diamat.
* Fr/DissonanceLudoNarrative : Il est tout à fait possible de jouer en étant exactement le genre de Dresseur que N déteste ; peu importe le niveau de bonheur des Pokémon du joueur, N continuera de lui dire que ceux-ci l'apprécient. À vrai dire, il est difficile de conserver une équipe malheureuse ; les seuls moyens de réduire le niveau de bonheur d'un Pokémon est de le laisser se faire mettre K.O. régulièrement et de dépenser une fortune en herbes médicales au goût amer, là où des actions aussi simples que gagner un niveau ou même ''marcher'' le font remonter.
* Fr/FrapperLeChien :
** Les objectifs et méthodes de la Team Plasma peuvent initialement sembler raisonnable. Cependant, la première confrontation directe avec ceux-ci a lieu alors que deux Sbires frappent un Munna sans défense, laissant entrevoir leur véritable nature. Ceux-ic volent également le Pokémon d'une jeune fille, et Bianca se fait également plus tard dérober son Munna, confirmant qu'ils sont aussi néfastes que les autres organisations de la série.
** La fin du jeu est une suite de tels moments : [[spoiler:des Sbires se félicitent que Ghetis ait réussi à manipuler les habitants d'Unys, un scientifique annonce qu'il s'apprête à relacher tous les Pokémon du Système de Sotckage, et, après avoir vaincu N, Ghetis déverse un torrent d'insultes sur lui et le joueur]].
* Fr/{{Leitmotive}} : Tcheren, Bianca, Ghetis, N, le Professeur Keteleeria et son père, Goyah, Beladonis, et [[spoiler:Cynthia]] ont chacun droit à leur propre thème musical.

* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard:
** As usual, some of the Gym Leaders and Elite Four have fully-evolved Pokémon at lower levels than what is required to actually ''get'' those evolutions in the first place.
** [[spoiler:Ghetsis has a Hydreigon at level 54 (Zweilous evolves at level 64).]]
* ConsoleCameo: The player has a Wii in their bedroom. After the first battle with Cheren and Bianca destroys their room, the Wii appears unharmed.

* GameplayAndStorySegregation:
** Magikarp's Pokédex entry states that, while it can [[InASingleBound leap up a mountain]] with Splash if it lives for many years, "the move remains useless" in combat.
** Scrafty's Pokédex entry states that it gangs up on and beats opponents that enter their territory, as well as being able to spit acid. However, it does not learn Beat Up or Acid Bomb/Acid/Gastro Acid.
** Part of Ferroseed's animation clearly shows it spinning rapidly, but it does not learn Rapid Spin (although it does get Gyro Ball).
** It's perfectly possible to play through the game as the sort of trainer N despises: Regardless of your Pokémons' actual happiness values, N still says that they like you. This is mainly an artifact of the game's happiness mechanics -- trying to get a Mon upset is actually [[BeingEvilSucks pretty hard to do]], since the only ways to really decrease their happiness is to routinely let them be knocked out in combat, or spend a fortune on feeding them the bitter herbal medicines. Just about anything else you can do increases their happiness value -- in fact, even mundane activities like LevelGrinding and just ''walking around'' will slowly put them in a better mood. The player may as well be a [[FriendtoAllLivingThings Friend To All Pokémon]].
** In the story, N [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomps]] the League Champion with the help of [[spoiler:Reshiram or Zekrom]]. Later, if you go back to [[BonusBoss challenge him yourself]], his Pokémon are a good +20 levels stronger than before. It's explained that he was largely out of practice (due to retirement) which is why he was defeated by N; by the the time you face him, he's got his team back up to speed.

* KickTheDog: To make sure the player realizes Team Plasma is criminal after their initial appearance, their subsequent appearances have them literally kicking (or some form of striking anyways) a Munna, then stealing someone's Pokémon.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Cheren, Bianca, Ghetsis, N, Professor Juniper, Papa Juniper (though his is just a remix of his daughter's), Alder, Looker, and [[spoiler:Cynthia]] all get one, as well as the usual generic trainer themes. N even gets an OminousMusicBoxTune remix of his.
* NintendoHard: With only new Pokémon to choose from, some of the bigger battles can be difficult to find appropriate counters against. Additionally, some of the trainers are unusually high leveled and pack strong Pokémon to fight you with, even before the first Gym.
* RunningGag: There is always a fisherman with a team full of Magikarp. ''Always''. However he doesn't show up until the post-game, so this version of him comes at you with a team of L60+ Magikarp.

** In Nimbasa City's larger Sports Dome, one of the soccer players tells you to join the training of their team, [[VideoGame/InazumaEleven Pokémon Eleven]]. In addition, Nimbasa City was named Raimon City in the Japanese version, so this ''had'' to be intentional. ** When you go to get your first badge for the Pokémon League approved at the first gate, there is silence. Then, when you enter the next room to get the next badge approved, drumming is heard in the background. More instruments are added as you get badges approved until the full instrumentals for the Victory Road theme are playing.

* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: Battling Audino is an excellent way to gather large amounts of experience fast, but they often use a move called Heal Pulse that will actually heal your Pokémon, so you might feel a bit bad about beating the crap out of it and thirty of its cousins.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: N and Team Plasma seem to believe that humans and Pokémon should be separated to make the world more [[TitleDrop black and white]], and want to free Pokémon from humans. Although, since it's been proven time and time again that Pokémon enjoy human company, the intentions aren't as well as they might seem at first glance.

* For a long time, the M&M/Mars company ignored the urban legend that green M&Ms are an aphrodisiac. In 1997, they embraced it, introducing the sexy "[[TheVamp Ms. Green]]" character, with the slogan "what is it about the green ones?" In 2008, they began selling [[http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/mars/31278/ bags of all-green M&Ms for Valentine's Day.]]

* ''Literature/HarryPotter'':

[[folder:Jeux Vidéo]]

* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** ImpliedTrope in ''VideoGame/PokemonOmegaRubyAndAlphaSapphire'': the French translation of Brawly's pre-battle dialogue has him say he trained his mind by "staring at a [[LetsPlay/TwitchPlaysPokemon Helix Fossil]] for days and days".
* ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'':

* Ascending from the misspelling of Billy's name in the intro of ''VideoGame/DoubleDragon 3'', ''VideoGame/DoubleDragonNeon'' features the Mistranslated Mutants Bimmy and Jammy, who are {{Evil Knockoff}}s of the Lee brothers.

* ''VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo'':
** The ''entire game'' is based on an image by the artist Raita (proposing many of the female main characters) that became memetic on the /a/ board of 4chan before 4 Leaf Studios decided to make it a reality.

* On ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'', Milhouse was always known for failure. But since the association with a ForcedMeme, he has a habit of spouting them and trying to force memes. It fails every time.
** "D'oh!", "embiggen" and "cromulent" were all added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

''Pokémon Noir'' et ''Pokémon Blanc'' constituent la première moitié de la cinquièmme génération de la série ''FrFranchise/{{Pokemon}}''. Ces versions boulversent un certain nombre de traditions : les protagonistes sont plus âgés, le Professeur local est une femme, les Centres Pokémon et Boutiques Pokémon ne forment plus qu'un seul bâtiment, le Pokéde régional ne contient ''aucun'' Pokémon des générations précédentes, les CT peuvent être réutilisées à l'infini, on ne trouve ni Casino ni Zone Safari, et la nouvelle région d'Unys n'est pas basé sur une région du Japon mais sur FrNotesUtiles/{{New York|City}} (ainsi qu'une partie du FrNotesUtiles/NewJersey).

It's no secret by now that Pokémon GO loves to throw variants of existing Pokémon at us; that's to be expected of a mobile game that relies on regular new content, really. On top of Shiny, Shadow and Purified Pokémon, we also have species-specific variant, from the recent Costumed starters, to the long-awaited Sunglasses Squirtle, to the unexpected Armored Mewtwo, to the dozen existing Hat Pikachu. So I've decided to try my hand at brainstorming some potential new Pokémon variants inspired by existing forms, spin-offs, and side media. This is mostly just for fun, and some are obviously less likely than others, but I hope you'll enjoy it nonetheless.

Cosplay Pikachu
Origin: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
Probability: Possible
This is probably the worst way to open this list, as I assume most people would rather not have yet another Pikachu costume introduced, let alone *five* of them. Still, those costumes are way more interesting to look at than just a mere hat, and they do come directly from a main series game, so I'd say we'd all rather have those than Sailor Hat Pikachu or whatever. While ORAS released all the way back in 2014, the Pikachu Libre costume did show up since in both Pokkén and Smash Bros, so it does still hold a little relevancy. Each costume also came with an exclusive move, which would also make them a bit more unique. One last remark is that Cosplay Pikachu could not evolve or breed in ORAS, and it'd probably be true in Pokémon GO as well... but I would absolutely love to be able to get a Rock Star Raichu or a PhD Pichu.

Spiky-eared Pichu
Origin: Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver
Probability: Unlikely
I promise this list isn't made up of Pikachu costumes. Still, when it comes to unique alternate forms, the event-exclusive Spiky-eared Pichu from HGSS comes to mind, and I wouldn't mind seeing her again. However, it's been a decade since her last appearance (aside from a Smash Bros costume), so while it's *possible* it'll happen, it is quite unlikely. This is also another one that cannot evolve, which I suppose would annoy some players. But whenever another Johto event hits, it'd be neat to have her as the focus of a short Special Research; possibly one that would also award a Shiny Pichu, since one specific Shiny Pichu was necessary to obtain Spiky-eared Pichu in HGSS, and was featured in artwork with her.

Eternal Flower Floette
Origin: Pokémon X & Y
Probability: Plausible
While Generation VI is still a far cry away from being added to Pokémon GO, I feel Eternal Flower Floette deserves a mention nonetheless. For those unaware, the Floette family comes in five different colors (red, orange, yellow, blue, white), but this specific Floette has a unique coloration and much higher stats than usual, as it is part of the backstory of Pokémon X & Y; it died in a war 3000 years ago, and was brought back to life by its Trainer, but disappeared after discovering its resurrection had cost hundreds of innocent lives. Yes, this is an actual plot point. But despite being present in the code of the Gen VI and Gen VII games, and even having a unique signature move *and* a unique Pokédex entry, it was *never* distributed, and remains unavailable *to this very day*. I'd say it's about time we can get our hands on it, and with such a backstory, it's a great candidate for a Special Research.

Original Color Magearna
Origin: Pokémon Sun & Moon
Probability: Plausible
I'll keep that one short, because it's basically the same as Eternal Floette: it is present in the code of the Gen VII games and has a unique Dex entry, but was never made available (although unlike Eternal Floette, it is virtually identical to its regular counterpart, and was irrelevant to the games plot). Its only official appearance was in its dedicated movie. It also seems likely for it to make it into Pokémon GO, perhaps even more than Eternal Floette due to Magearna being a Mythical, although it'd feel more at home in Raids than in a Special Research.

Party Hat Wurmple
Origin: Pokémon GO
Probability: Likely
I assume if you've made it this far into the list, it was to make sure this little dude was present. It's so weird and yet so great that some random Wurmple from a New Year's *loading screen* of all places would get such attention from the community. And honestly, that's why I was surprised not to see it introduced the very next year; Sunglasses Squirtle was a heavily-requested addition, and it *did* get added eventually. Sure, many felt cheated that it recycled Pikachu's sunglasses rather than using the anime ones, but I find it likely that it was either this or nothing; it's at least proof that Niantic *does* have some insight on what kind of variant Pokémon the community would like to see, and *can* deliver on that. And guess what, they already *have* a party hat that they can recycle, so it's not like they need new assets for this. Who knows, maybe every issue the game had in the past two years is because half their staff is focused on figuring out how to not make the party hat look weird on Dustox and Beautifly. Joking aside, call me hopelessly optimistic, but I am adamant that Party hat Wurmple is bound to happen eventually.

Shadow Lugia
Origin: Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness
Probability: Very likely
Had you asked me last year if Shadow Lugia, the ultimate and most menacing threat of Pokémon XD, the supposedly "unpurifiable" Legendary, could make it into Pokémon GO, I would have said that while it would be amazing, but very unlikely given that it only ever appeared in a single spin-off title back in 2005. I would've also said that considering it never made it to Pokémon Shuffle, a game that *also* loved introducing dozens of alternate forms and was made by the *same* developers as Pokémon XD, then there was little chance for Pokéon GO. Since then however, Shadow Pokémon have made an unexpected return, in Pokémon GO itself no less, and suddenly I had to change my expectation from "unlikely" to "probably just a matter of time". Unless there's some sort of copyright tauroscrap regarding this specific form of Lugia, it's safe to say that the whole Rocket storyline is leading to it. I only hope that purifying it will let it keep its unique model and color scheme, because that was always the biggest letdown of Pokémon XD.

Purple Kecleon
Origin: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon? Anime?
Probability: Possible
Some of you might be confused, so let me clarify: this is not a Shiny Kecleon. Shiny Kecleon is still green, but with a blue stripe. Purple Kecleon, however, is a weird case, in that it's even hard to say where it came from. It appeared in both the anime and the Mystery Dungeon games, very early in Generation III promotion at that, yet never appeared in the main games proper. Perhaps Kecleon were supposed to come in multiple colors, but the idea was scrapped and Purple Kecleon is a remnant of that? Nevertheless, it's still iconic to many, especially fans of the Mystery Dungeon series, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was introduced in Pokémon GO. Maybe it could be an occasion to introduce even more Kecleon colour variants. You know, whenever regular Kecleon finally makes it. ~~Unless it's been here this whole time, just invisible.~~

Primal Dialga
Origin: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky
Probability: Very unlikely
Either you're familiar with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, or you're wondering why a vaguely different Dialga would be added to Pokémon GO. As a matter of fact, it's unlikely to make it, given it only appeared as the final boss of a niche spin-off from a decade ago. Still, it's probably the second most notorious example of a "corrupted" Legendary Pokémon, so I feel it deserves a mention. I'm not saying it's definitely out, as Niantic is always looking for incentives to make us raid more, but it certainly lacks a bit of the coolness factor of Armored mewtwo or Shadow Lugia. Plus, its English names gets kind of confusing in regards to Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon.

Shadow Mewtwo
Origin: Pokkén Tournament
Probability: Possible
I said earlier that Shadow Pokémon made their grand return in Pokémon GO, but the truth is that they had been alluded to with the final boss of Pokkén Tournament, albeit its backstory had nothing to do with an evil team brainwashing Pokémon to corrupt them. While Shadow Lugia is definitely the most likely Shadow Legendary to make it into Pokémon GO, I would *defintiely* be in favour of Shadow Mewtwo as well. It looks amazing, it ties into the ongoing Shadow Pokémon storyline, and despite being from yet another niche spin-off, that one is at least fresh on most minds, having been re-released for the Switch in 2017. Again, please let it stay awesome-looking once purified.

Variant Magikarp
Origin: Magikarp Jump
Probability: Highly unlikely
This is one of the most silly suggestions on the list, but I'm basically just throwing ideas around, so... Anyone remembers Magikarp Jump? That *other* Pokémon mobile game? One of the features of said game was that there was a wide variety of Magikarp patterns you could fish. Plain, calico, striped, masked, patched, orange, pink, white, purple, blue, and so on. And frankly, why not add some of them in Pokémon GO; we already have 20 different Spinda forms, might as well have 20 different Magikarp if the goal is to cater to degenerate compulsive collectors (like me). Heck, re-run the Magikarp Festival, except the pattern pool for wild Magikarp rotates every day. Oh, and give them Bounce as their Charged Attack, just to fit with their game of origin.

Smash Hat Jiggypuff
Origin: Super Smash Bros.
Probability: Highly unlikely
Is this more silly than the Magikarp patterns? I'm not sure, but I still feel there was a missed opportunity for a cross-promotion with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back when it was released. At this point, Jigglypuff is more of a Smash character than a Pokémon character; not that it's a bad thing, it keeps her more relevant than other minor Pokémon species. Some of her costumes from the Smash series are among the most fondly-remembered of the series, such as the crown, ribbon and straw hat, whereas others are neat references to the series, such as Leaf's cap, Serena's hat, and the nurse hat. Niantic is not going to stop giving hats to Pokémon anytime soon, might as well put them on something *other* than Pikachu.

Crystal Onix
Origin: Anime - Adventures in the Orange Islands
Probability: Unlikely
To be honest, I'm not a fan of elements from the Pokémon anime making their way into the games, but we already got Ash's Pikachu, Sunglasses Squirtle, and Heart-spotted Spinda, so I might as well consider a few for this list. The first seasons actually have a good chunk of unusual Pokémon, and one that many fans remember to this day seems to be the Crystal Onix. Besides its appearance, it was unique in that it was weak to fire rather than water, but that aspect seems more trouble than it's worth to implement, since it would basically require a unique type. It's also doubtful that it would be able to evolve, even though a Platinum Steelix would be fairly awesome. As far as anime-exclusive Pokémon go, this seems one of the best possible picks, albeit an unlikely one nonetheless.

Pink Butterfree
Origin: Anime - Indigo League
Probability: Possible
While the Crystal Onix is one of the most memorable Pokémon variants from the anime, the Pink Butterfree is undeniably *the* most memorable. As it tied into the very first departure of one of Ash Pokémon, the very first he had caught at that, it was iconic enough to reappear as recently as the twentieth movie and appear in a flashback during the Sun & Moon seasons. This combined with the fact that it's merely a recolor of a regular Butterfree make it an attractive and easily-implemented candidate for a Pokémon GO variant, maybe as a Breakthrough Reward for another Bug month event. The only thing holding it back might be that its color scheme is too similar to an actual Shiny Butterfree, which might create some confusion.

Heart-spotted Bulbasaur
Origin: Anime - Advanced Challenge
Probability: Possible
During the Advanced Generation seasons, May obtained a Bulbasaur, which sported a heart-shaped pattern in order to differentiate it from other members of its species. Honestly, it wouldn't have seemed worth mentioning if not for the inclusion of Heart-spotted Spidna; because of the latter's presence though, Heart-spotted Bulbasaur suddenly seems like a good fit for the next Valentine's Day event. May's Bulbasaur also ended up evolving, so its Pokémon GO equivalent should be able too as well. Besides, Venusaur needs more love ^(pun not intended but I wish it had been).

Sunglasses Sandit
Origin: Anime - Black & White
Probability: Possible
Alrigth, if I'm to include anime-specific Pokémon, I at least want to avoid sticking to nostalgia-pandering. Sandit was one of the few Pokémon in the anime to have a trademark accessory, which happened to be a pair of sunglasses which it kept after evolving. While it's not yet known what Sandit's rarity will be once introduced to Pokémon GO, it being a decently-powerful three-stages Pokémon means it could potentially get a Community Day, in which case Sunglasses Sandit could be handled the same way Sunglasses Squirtle was. Even if they reuse the same sunglasses model a third time, I'd rather have them cut corners than cut the possibility altogether. Alas, whereas many demanded that Sunglasses Squirtle be added, most probably don't care in the slightest about Sunglasses Sandit, if they even know of its existence.

Pibu / Sparky
Origin: Pokémon Adventures / Anime - Adventures in the Orange Islands
Probability: Very unlikely
I included anime-exclusive Pokémon, so I feel obligated to at least include a few entries from other media. As a warning however, from this point onward, this list is way beyond far-fetched. Anyway. Pibu is a Pichu belonging to Gold, one of the protagonists of the Gold, Silver and Crystal arc of the Pokémon Adventures manga. Sparky is a Piakchu belonging to Ritchie, a rival of Ash from the anime. Both are distinguishable by their scruffy hair, meaning they could be the basis for a Scruffy Pikachu variant. Is this the worst idea possible for yet another Pikachu variant? Quite probably. Would it make sense for a manga-inspired Pichu to evolve into an anime-inspired Pikachu? Not really. Would Niantic waste time and resources on a whole new Pikachu model that just has scruffy hair? Hopefully not. Why put them on this list then? I don't know, I said I was just brainstorming, also I wanted to mention Pokémon Adventures somewhere.

Togebo
Origin: Pokémon Adventures
Probability: Very unlikely
While a Scruffy Pichu would certainly be met with groans at best and absolute meltdowns at worse, Mean-faced Togepi sounds like something most players would find hilarious. Togebo is a Togepi belonging to Gold from the Pokémon Adventures manga; the latter's has a natural talent for hatching, which results in the hatched Pokémon being imbued with his personality. Gold is also the worst protagonist in the series, meaning Togebo ended up as a mean-spirited, stubborn, irritable harum-scarum with a gambling addiction, and kept a sulky look on his face all the way to his final evolution. Maybe I'm mistaken and I'm the only one who would love to own an assh¤le Togepi, but I think if Niantic is planning yet another hatching-based event, they should consider throwing the little dude in there.

Blockhead Clefairy
Origin: Pocket Monsters
Probability: Not in a million years
Those of you not too versed in Pokémon trivia might be unaware that the series mascot was originally supposed to be Clefairy. While Pikachu ended up taking that spot in most media in order to better appeal to international audiences, the very first Pokémon manga, Pocket Monsters, did give the lead role to arude, lazy and stubborn Clefairy commonly referred to as "Blockhead Clefairy". Of note is the fact that de-evolution exists in said manga, so it would be amusing if once evolved, it could "evolve back" into Blockhead Clefairy, then again in Blockhead Clefable, and so on. Obviously, it will never ever make it into Pokémon GO, not only because it would clash horribly with the general art style, it would be terrible cross-promotion since Pocket Monsters was never printed outside of Japan, bar a handful of Asian countries. Still, wouldn't that be the perfect prank for April Fools if it started spawning everywhere...

Delta Species
Origin: Pokémon TCG
Probability: Implausible
This "variant" is more of a new "category" akin to Shadow Pokémon and Lucky Pokémon, but I've decided to stretch my own rules to include it. The EX era of the TCG featured Pokémon known as Delta Species, which due to the influence of electromagnetic waves ended up mutating and acquiring unusual types. You had Water-type Oddish, Grass-type Trapinch, and many Pokémon gaining a dual Steel-type. While the relative obscurity of Delta Species makes it *very* unlikely for them to ever appear in Pokémon GO, the unexpected re-introduction of Shadow Pokémon does allow for a tiny bit of hope, and Delta Species would frankly be a fitting follow-up for them. I wouldn't expect them to keep their original weaknesses like they did in the TCG, as that would likely bring a lot of issues on the side of both the players and the developers, but it would allow for some Pokémon to be used in previously unexpected ways.

Imakuni?'s Whismur
Origin: Pokémon TCG
Probability: Not in a trillion years
If you thought Blockhead Clefairy was a stupid idea, may I present you Whismur in an Imakuni? costume. Iamkuni? is a Japanese musician who composed for the Pokémon anime, and involved himself with the promotion of the Pokémon TCG, to the point where he appeared as a bonus boss in the Pokémon TCG video game, and had several "spoof" cards designed after him, among which Imakuni?'s Whismur, Loudred, and Exploud. I wanted to be a show-off and include a TCG reference in this list, and a Whismur dressed as Imakuni? was the best I could come up with. Also, as a reference to the weird effects of the Imakuni? cards, it should have Yawn as its Quick Move, and a self-hurting move as its Charged Move. Again, never happening, but would make a great April Fools prank.

Costumed Eevee
Origin: Merchandising
Probability: Possible
First of all, I know many are still traumatized by Flower Crown Eevee and I apologize to those not yet ready to hear about Eevee variants. One recurrent theme in Pokémon merchandising is to have Eevee dressed up as its evolutions; seeing that idea brought to Pokémon GO seemed silly and implausible until very recently, but the introduction of Costumed Pokémon on Halloween suddenly made it seem like an actual possibility. Notably, it solve the issue of what would happen when it evolves: it wouldn't evolve. It would be nice as a result if its moves were of the same type as the corresponding evolution.

For those unaware, the Floette family comes in five different colors (red, orange, yellow, blue, white), but this specific Floette has a unique coloration and much higher stats than usual, as it is part
of the backstory of Pokémon X & Y; it died in a war 3000 years ago, and was brought back to life by its Trainer, but disappeared after discovering its resurrection had cost hundreds of innocent lives.

Sure, many felt cheated that it recycled Pikachu's sunglasses rather than
side-games played during ''[[LetsPlay/TwitchPlaysPokemonArena Arena]]'' intermissions, using the anime ones, but I find it likely that it was either this or nothing; it's at least proof that Niantic *does* have some insight "full democracy" system in which players get to vote on what kind of variant Pokémon the community would like to see, and *can* deliver on that.

Had you asked me last year if Shadow Lugia, the ultimate and most menacing threat of Pokémon XD, the supposedly "unpurifiable" Legendary, could make it into Pokémon GO, I would have said that while it would be amazing, but very unlikely given that it only ever appeared in
a single spin-off title back in 2005. I would've also said that considering it never made it to Pokémon Shuffle, a input in-between every ''Arena'' match. The game that *also* loved introducing dozens featured, ''Pokémon Sweet'', is a hack of alternate forms and was made by the *same* developers as Pokémon XD, then there was little chance for Pokéon GO. Since then however, Shadow ''VideoGame/PokemonFireRed'' taking place in a "dessertified" Kanto, in which Pokémon have made an unexpected return, in Pokémon GO itself no less, and suddenly I had to change my expectation from "unlikely" to "probably just a matter of time".

Shiny Kecleon is still green, but
been replaced with a blue stripe. Purple Kecleon, however, is a weird case, in that it's even hard to say where it came from. [=PokéSweets=], such as Squirpie, Meowffin, or Mintanyte.

One of the
also features of said game was that there was a wide variety of Magikarp patterns you could fish.

This combined with the fact that it's merely a recolor of a regular Butterfree make it an attractive and easily-implemented candidate for a Pokémon GO variant, maybe
alternate type chart as a Breakthrough Reward for another Bug month event.

Probability: Not in a trillion years
If you thought Blockhead Clefairy was a stupid idea, may I present you Whismur in an Imakuni? costume. Iamkuni? is a Japanese musician who
result, composed of [[BizarroElements 12 pastry-related types]][[labelnote:Detail]]Vanilla, Cherry, Strawberry, Apple, Orange, Banana, Lemon, Lime, Blueberry, Grape, Raspberry, and Chocolate[[/labelnote]].

for the Pokémon anime, and involved himself with the promotion archived progress of the Pokémon TCG, to the point where he appeared as a bonus boss game in the Pokémon TCG video game, and had several "spoof" cards designed after him, among which Imakuni?'s Whismur, Loudred, and Exploud.
