The following day, Witse asks van Deun if he has deciphered the code, but he states that he hasn't found the correct code word yet. As the team prepares to question the notary's relatives for the code word, Witse has to inform Wytinckx about their next move, as to respect the chain-of-command. When he jokes about Wytinckx nickname, Witse suddenly comes to the insight that the notary's nickname (Mr. Cash) might be the codeword. The codeword turns out to be correct and the team subsequently deciphers the list of the notary's creditors. On the list, Witse finds Gustaaf Mertens as one of the investors in the Ponzi scheme. As it turns out, Gustaaf invested all of his savings in the notary's scheme, which cost him the house he wanted to buy for his granddaughter. When Witse visits Gustaaf in the garden, he tells Witse that the notary was thoroughly evil and that he had to weed him out, because no one else did. He then asks Witse to let him go free, as he can't abandon the care for his granddaughter. Witse, however, tells Gustaaf that he has to live with the consequences of his acts and arrests him for murder. The episode ends with Witse and Annemie returning home, after they dropped Dasha off at the institution. There, Annemie breaks down and starts to cry, as she feels that she should have taken in Dasha, while Witse tries to console her.

* NotaryNonsense: After a notary is murdered, the investigation reveals that he was running a {{Ponzi}} scheme using under-the-table cash from his clients. While not impossible, it would be an odd scheme for a notary, something more suited for an professional investor or accountant as notaries generally don't handle client money like that.

Gustaaf Mertens, the gardener of notary Vermeersch, witnesses a fight between his boss and one of his clients. Shortly after, the notary's corpse is found by his sister-in-law, Irene. It turns out that the notary suffocated on a handful of bank notes, which were forcefully shoved into his throat. Witse, who's having dinner with Annemie and Dasha, gets called in to investigate the murder and is told by the coroner that the murder took place between 16:00 and 18:00. They also find two glasses of gin in the notary's office. As they're talking to the coroner, Dams comes up to them and takes them to the gardener, who has collapsed in the garden. The coroner examines him and tells Witse that he's merely sedated. Witse, who remembers the glasses of gin, now assumes that both the notary and the gardener were sedated by the killer. When they ask the notary's wife, Céline, where she was at the time of the murder, she states that she was playing the piano in the music room and that she didn't notice that a murder took place. She furthermore states that she didn't see any clients enter the house and that she knew little about her husband's work, as per their agreement. She subsequently hands them her husband's dayplanner, as all of his clients would be mentioned in there, before taking her leave. When Witse and Sam leave the house, van Deun tells them an all-terrain vehicle was seen parked in front of the house. Witse orders van Deun to find the owner of the vehicle, while he visits the gardener at the hospital.

At the hospital, Witse asks Gustaaf what he remembers about his day. He states that he and the notary had a drink together, as they always did on payday, and that he started feeling drowsy afterwards. He furthermore states that he observed an argument between the notary and one of his clients and gives a description of the man and his car. The next day, Witse and Sam visit Irene, who tells them that the notary had no meetings planned that afternoon. She, however, had to visit another notary in Malderen and found him dead as she came back. When Witse asks her if the notary had any enemies, Irene states that arranging notary matters occasionally brought up arguments, but that he didn't have any real enemies. Before they can ask Irene any more questions, her husband, Omer, enters the room and warns them to get out, as his wife needs rest. As they leave the house, Omer follows them and states that they should look into Céline, as she married the notary for his wealth. When they ask Céline about it, she admits that her marriage to the notary was one of reason (instead of love) and that Omer never accepted that. Upon stating that she might be fed up with her financial dependency on the notary, Céline answers that her husband was on the brink of bankruptcy and that she's left penniless. Back at the station, Dams and van Deun have found the owner of the all-terrain vehicle, Robert Claeys. During interrogation, Robert admits that he had an argument with the notary about an investment, but that he was alive and well when Robert left at 16:00. He furthermore states that he got drunk at a local pub afterwards and stayed there till closing time. Further investigations confirms Robert's alibi, but the team, nevertheless, decides to shadow him for several days.

After the interrogation, Dams tells Witse that a cocktail of sedatives were found in the gin. Furthermore, packages of these sedatives were found in Céline's medicine cabinet. When they ask her about it, Céline tells them that she took them because her husband tormented her mentally, as well as cheated on her with other women. Upon asking her about Robert Claeys, Céline states that she never met him and that her husband's clients were none of her bussiness. Shortly after, Witse visits Gustaaf when he's getting discharged from the hospital. The two talk about Gustaaf's granddaughter, who has a heriditary heart condition and is held at the hospital as well. Witse then asks him if he would share some inside information about the notary with him, but the gardener states that he doesn't want to speak ill of his employer. As Gustaaf leaves the hospital, Witse offers him a ride home, which Gustaaf accepts. As they arrive at the notary's grounds, Gustaaf confides in Witse that Omer and the notary were on bad terms with eachother. They visit Omer's home, but find that only Irene is around. When they ask Irene about the argument between Omer and the notary, she states that it was a brotherly spat and that they (most likely) made peace since. She furthermore tells Witse and Sam about Céline's lover, Jan Vissers. When the visit Vissers, he states that he plays in a chamber orchestra together with Céline and denies that they are lovers. He furthermore states that he went to do groceries around the time of the murder, but has no one who can confirm it. As they leave Vissers' office, Witse suddenly decides to double-back and enters the office as Vissers is calling Céline. He subsequently invites the two over to the station for questioning.

During interrogation, Witse accuses Céline and Vissers of committing the murder together. Then, van Deun enters with the crime lab results: Vissers fingerprints were found all over the notary's office. Vissers, in turn, admits that he was in the notary's office the day before the murder, where he was looking for the notary's secret blackbook. They furthermore state that Céline wanted to divorce the notary and that they needed the blackbook to blackmail him. When they ask Céline about Omer's argument with the notary, she states that the two were fighting about a financial injection for Omer's (family) bussiness, which the notary declined. After the interrogation, Witse asks van Deun to look into the notary's finances, while he and Sam start their search for his blackbook. Later that night, Annemie visits Witse and tells him that Dasha will be sent to an institution several days from now. In response, Witse offers to join Annemie, when she drops Dasha off. The following day, Witse gives Gustaaf a ride to the hospital, as he has to visit dr. Maes at the morgue. The two talk about Gustaaf's granddaughter again, as well as about Gustaaf's financial situation. Gustaaf, furthermore, tells Witse about his plan to buy a house suitable for his granddaughter's needs, but states that it fell through, when the owner started raising his sales price. At the morgue, dr. Maes tells Witse that the notary was injected with Pancuronium, a muscle relaxant, and that he was (most likely) conscious (but immobilized) when the bank notes were shoved through his throat. When Witse and Sam further investigate the suspects at the station, they discover that Vissers studied medicine (without obtaining a degree) and decide to pay him a visit. During their visit, Vissers admits that he knows what Pancuronium is, but denies that he murdered the notary and challenges them to a polygraph test to prove his innocence.

Meanwhile, Dams is staking out Robert's home. His observation finally pays off when he sees Robert leaving his home with his all-terrain vehicle. He follows him to Omer's house, where he witnesses an argument between Robert and Omer about money. Dams then follows Robert to the top of a parking garage, where Robert tries to take his own life. Dams manages to talk him out of jumping from the parking garage and brings Robert to the station. During interrogation, Robert states that the notary was an (illicit) investment banker as well, who promised high returns on investment through insider trading. Furthermore, the money was payed under the table, without any (legal) contract. When Robert tried to cash in his investment, the notary told him that he couldn't return it. After the notary died, Robert tried to retrieve his investment from Omer, but he couldn't pay him either. The team now suspects that the notary was running a [[{{Ponzi}} Ponzi scheme]] and that he went bankrupt due to his own decadent spending. He furthermore was accompanied by a woman matching Irene's description during his spats. When they ask Irene about it, she admits that she had a secret affair with the notary, but denies any knowledge about the Ponzi scheme. She, however, does tell them that the notary asked her to rent a locker at Brussel's North station. Shortly after, they find the blackbook in the locker, but the transactions are made in code. Witse asks van Deun to crack the code, as the killer (most likely) was a victim of the notary's Ponzi scheme. Meanwhile, Wytinckx is looking for Witse in a furious state. Apparently, Witse actions from the previous episode nearly cost Wytinckx his function. He orders Witse to fall in line from now on, as he'll get fired otherwise.

The episode ends with Witse and Annemie returning home, after they dropped Dasha off at the institution.
