clothes, cures a village of a plague of plant-monsters unwittingly unleashed by the Spear Hero and helps starving refugees displaced by the Bow Hero killing their lord.

Having a new party member, Naofumi started his traveling merchant life while aiding others for a reasonable amount. Naofumi also went on a small adventure to get a gem that can be used to make dresses for Filo that won't tear whenever she transforms. Meanwhile, rumors of other Heroes doing heroic jobs spread across the country, such as Motoyasu Kitamura saving a famine-stricken village with a miracle plant seed, Ren Amaki slaughtering dragons, Itsuki Kawasumi joining a rebellious sect against a tyrant lord, etc.

In Naofumi's case, even the common bandits know of his bad reputation and see him less. Will Naofumi have his own heroic tale?

* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Exploited. When the bandits threaten to turn the tables and accuse Naofumi ([[HeroWithBadPublicity who has been painted as a crook and a cheat]]) of attacking them unprovoked, he declares that feeding them to Filo is the safest option. This scares them enough for them to stay silent, as well as taking all of their supplies as payment for their lives.

!Tropes for this episode include:

* BlowYouAway: Filo possesses an affinity to wind magic.
* ChainOfDeals: Naofumi can only get a dress for Filo from the tailor. The tailor can only make her a dress if they get her magic thread from the Village Witch. The magic gemstone on the Village Witch's magic thread is broken an thus useless, so he gives an accessory merchant safe passage and protection from bandits in exchange for ItemCrafting skills and information on where he can find a new magic gemstone. By helping escort the witch into the old temple where the magic gemstone is, they are allowed to use her spinning wheel free of charge.
* TheHighwayMan: A group of bandits obstruct their carriage as they board passage for an accessory trader, only to [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomp]] them all and have them pay for their lives in tradable good. While Raphtalia (who was sold as a slave) finds this a little disconcerting, the merchant thinks that it makes Naofumi a natural business man.
* ItemCrafting: As payment for giving him safe passage and protecting him from the bandits, the Accessory Merchant teaches him how to craft accessories, as well as providing a leg up in the merchant grapevine in finding a magic gemstone.
* [[LikeASonToMe Like A Daughter To Me]]: While Naofumi sees himself as Filo's owner, she sees Raphtalia as a daughter.
--> '''Raphtalia''': I am not!
* LivingLegend: On-top of being the Shield Hero, word has gotten around about Naofumi as being the "Savior of the Heavenly Fowl", a man who rides a carriage driven by "a god of domesticated birds" who travels and heals the sick as a MessianicArchetype.
* MySuitIsAlsoSuper: The plot of the episode revolves around making Filo and outfit that won't get destroyed when she switches between her bird and human forms.
* SiblingRivalry: Raphtalia and Filo quickly develop a rivalry for Naofumi's attention.
* YouOweMe: Naofumi agrees to help a man make it back to his village in time to administer medicine to his ailing mother if he can pay for it later. He follows through on a silver's worth of food.
