Eve assumes that Flynn is using Morse (which the team has relied on before) to secretly communicate with them by tapping his communication amulet, but all she gets from it is a string of random numbers. Jacob quickly figures out that it's actually not Morse code at all but a form of Chinese telegraphy which allows for more information to be communicated in fewer taps... and which Jacob is conveniently familiar enough with to translate.
