* ArtEvolution: Meta example. Beginning with this episode, ''SG-1'' stopped shooting on 15 mm film and upgraded to 35 mm. This would remain the new celluloid norm until the beginning of Season Eight (wherein the show upgraded again to HD Video).

The team is given some much-deserved leave while Daniel is recovering from an emergency appendectomy. However, their plans for the downtime are cut short when Thor beams O'Neill up to his ship in order to request his help in dealing with the long-time enemy of the Asgard, which has now set its sights on earth.

Earth.

** The team are able to escape from Thor's ship before it is destroyed by beaming up the earth stargate and using it to dial another planet, similar to how Daniel escaped from Apophis's mothership in [[Recap/StargateSG1S2E1TheSerpentsLair "The Serpent's Lair"]].

* ReentryScare: The team is able to utilize this to their advantage once they realize that, as sophisticated as the Asgard ship is, it still wouldn't be able to withstand an uncontrolled entry into earth's atmosphere.

* StatingTheSimpleSolution: Thor rather snippily states that he knows of no simple way to destroy an Asgard ship, and that if he did he wouldn't have risked O'Neill's life by getting him involved. In response to this, Carter simply suggests that they crash the ship into the earth's atmosphere.

-->'''-- Col. Jack O'Neill'''

The team is given some much-deserved leave while Daniel is recovering from an emergency appendectomy. However, their plans for the downtime are cut short when Thor beams O'Neill up to his ship in order to request his help in dealing with the long-time enemy of the Asgard, which has now set its sights on earth.

First appearance of [[GreyGoo the Replicators]].
----
!!"Nemesis" provides examples of the following tropes:
* BenchedHero: Daniel is forced to sit this one out as he's still in the infirmary recovering from appendicitis when shit starts to go down, and he isn't exactly thrilled about being on the sidelines:
-->'''Daniel:''' Sir, I know there's no reason for me to be here, but I just... I feel like I should be here. That's not totally true, actually; I feel like I should be up there with them.
-->'''Hammond:''' Now you know how I feel most of the time.
* {{Cliffhanger}}: The last shot of the episode reveals that a single replicator has survived among the wreckage of the ''Beliskner'' now floating in the Pacific Ocean.
* ContinuityNod:
** O'Neill asks if the replicators are the enemies that Thor mentioned as being "worse than the Goa'uld" in [[Recap/StargateSG1S3E3FairGame "Fair Game"]].
* ContinuousDecompression: Happens to Teal'c's spacesuit when the replicator acid eats a hole through his oxygen tank.
* DefconFive: Used correctly; when Major Davis arrives at the base he states they are at Defcon 3, and later in the episode they move up again to Defcon 2.
* DramaticSpaceDrifting: When Teal'c gets locked outside the ship Carter tells him that he has to push off from the side to get far away enough that she can beam him aboard, resulting in this trope as O'Neill stands at the window watching him drift further and further away.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Teal'c speculates that the original creators of the replicators were likely destroyed by their own creation.
* HollywoodAcid: The acid secreted by the replicators is shown to be capable of eating through pretty much anything.
* HollywoodHealing: Averted; Daniel is told that he'll be laid up for at least a week after his appendectomy, and while he initially tries to brush it off and leave the infirmary, he soon realizes this would be a bad idea and decides against it. When he ''does'' eventually get out of bed, it's made clear that he still isn't fully recovered and is in a fair amount of pain.
* {{Hologram}}: O'Neill is able to use the holographic projector on the ''Beliskner'' to inform Hammond, Carter and Teal'c of the situation at the beginning of the episode.
* HordeOfAlienLocusts: The replicators are explicitly described as ''eating'' the ship.
* IncrediblyLameFun: Carter claims that messing around with naquadah reactors ''is'' her idea of fun, much to O'Neill's disgust.
* KineticWeaponsAreJustBetter: Projectile weaponry is shown to be far more effective at disabling the replicators than energy-based weapons.
* MoreHeroThanThou: Downplayed. When Teal'c volunteers to be the one to go outside the ship and plant the explosives, O'Neill instantly protests that ''he'' was going to do it -- until Carter points out that there is a radiation risk that Teal'c would be better protected against, at which point O'Neill relents without much of a fight.
-->'''O'Neill:''' Okay, ''he'' can do it.
* {{Mundanger}}: Lampshaded by Daniel in the wake of his most recent brush with death:
-->'''Daniel:''' You know, it's funny. I mean, after everything we've been through these past few years, and of all things it's my ''appendix'' that lays me out.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Thor reveals that the reason the replicators became such a threat in the first place is that the Asgard decided to take one for study, confident that their advanced technology would protect them only for the replicators to use that very technology against them.
* NoSell: When Teal'c tries shooting the replicators with a zat gun, they simply absorb the energy.
* OhCrap: O'Neill says the exact words when he realizes the replicators are heading for the airlock while Teal'c is still trapped outside the ship.
* PullingThemselvesTogether: The first time O'Neill tries shooting the replicators, they shatter into their constituent parts for a moment or two before the blocks simply reassemble themselves.
* ReentryScare: The team is able to utilize this to their advantage once they realize that, as sophisticated as the Asgard ship is, it still wouldn't be able to withstand an uncontrolled entry into earth's atmosphere.
* RunningGag: The beginning of O'Neill's obsession with getting his teammates to go fishing with him.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: A variation occurs when O'Neill and Teal'c make it to the bridge only to find it swarming with replicators.
-->'''O'Neill:''' Forget that. ''[closes doors]''
* ShoutOut: As Teal'c is about to go outside the ship:
-->'''O'Neill:''' Say something.
-->'''Teal'c:''' One small step for Jaffa.
-->'''O'Neill:''' Very nice.
* SuicideMission: The mission was ''supposed'' to be this, which is why O'Neill initially orders Carter and Teal'c not to join him; however, his orders are overruled by Hammond after they're able to come up with a plan that would hopefully allow them all to leave the ship in one piece.
* TimeForPlanB: When it becomes clear that the spacesuits are damaged and they won't be able to escape the ship via shuttle, Carter comes up with a plan to beam earth's stargate aboard and gate to another planet instead.
* TheUnmasquedWorld: Discussed; Major Davis states that if the ship manages to make it through the atmosphere in one piece, they will have no choice but to tell the truth to the rest of the world.
* {{Workaholic}}: Carter intends to spend her downtime in her lab working on naquadah reactors.
* YouSeeImDying: Thor tells O'Neill that he is dying at the beginning of the episode, which is why he needs O'Neill's help in destroying the replicators.
