Now that the negotiations for peace have ended on less than amicable terms, the Jiang Clan and the Wen Clan engage in an all-out war. But as the Jiang family is currently divided, so is their strength against the enemy.

* AdaptationDistillation: The anime leaves out the parts when Jiang Fengmian was able to have one last conversation with Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng, and when he realized that Yu Ziyuan also made him a wielder of Zidian.

* GrayRainOfDepression: Mere seconds after Jiang Cheng bursts into tears on Wei Wuxian's lap, it starts pouring hard.
* HeroicBSOD: Both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng end up breaking down from losing their home and family to the Wen Clan, with Jiang Cheng going into a fit of InelegantBlubbering while Wei Wuxian silently hides his tears.
* ItsAllMyFault: It's implied that Wei Wuxian blames himself for the fall of Lotus Pier, which is why he doesn't fight back when Jiang Cheng lashes out at him and even nearly kills him.
* IWantMyMommy: PlayedForDrama. After he vents out his rage at Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng breaks down in tears and cries that he wants his parents.

* ObfuscatingStupidity: When Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng escape Lotus Pier a second time by swimming, Wen Ning covers up their tracks by jumping into the water and claiming that he fell over.
* PetTheDog: While they never had the best relationship, Yu Ziyuan readily entrusts Wei Wuxian with Jiang Cheng's life.
* WatchingTroyBurn: Tied to a boat that is carrying them downstream, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng can only watch as their beloved home is burned to its foundations.
* WhatTheHellHero: Out of despair and anger, Jiang Cheng lashes out at Wei Wuxian and blames him for his parents' deaths, claiming that had Wei Wuxian done nothing at the Xuanwu Cave then the Wen Clan wouldn't have attacked Lotus Pier.
* YouAreTooLate: As soon as Zidian releases them, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng paddle back to Lotus Pier in hopes of finding survivors, only to discover that everyone has already been killed, including Jiang Cheng's parents.
