* PsychopathicManChild: Dodd's temper tantrum in front of the Kansas City Mob surely paints their organization in a less stable light. More important is that Joe Bulo provoked it by simply pointing out the flaw in a family crime business: the inability of the family matron/patron to discipline her kids properly.

Renamed one trope.

* DoesNotUnderstandSarcasm: Sonny has this problem.

As Otto is being taken to a doctor's appointment, Simone has sex with Milligan, inadvertently mentioning the doctor visit. Mike and the Kitchen brothers then eliminate Otto's guards and nurse in the parking lot outside the medical clinic, leaving Otto unharmed.

Meanwhile, Kansas City and the Gerhardt family sit down for negotiations. Floyd, Dodd, and Bear meet with Bulo and propose a counter-offer to his buyout in the form of a partnership. Bulo balks at the idea, since Dodd assaulted two of his men earlier. Bulo phones his superiors who reject the Gerhardts' proposal. They now offer two million dollars less than the first offer and demand the Gerhardts' complete surrender.

As Otto is being taken to a doctor's appointment, Simone has sex with Milligan, inadvertently mentioning the doctor visit. The Kitchens then eliminate Otto's guards in the parking lot outside the medical clinic, leaving Otto unharmed.

Meanwhile, Floyd, Dodd,
and me?
->'''Lou:''' Whole world. Used
Bear meet with Bulo and propose a counter-offer to know right from wrong. The moral center. Now...his buyout in the form of a partnership. Bulo balks at the idea, since Dodd assaulted two of his men earlier. Bulo phones his superiors who reject the Gerhardts' proposal. They now offer two million dollars less than the first offer and demand the Gerhardts' complete surrender.

In Luverne, Hanzee's investigation leads him to find Rye's belt buckle in the Blumquist fireplace. Lou talks to the Blumquists regarding his suspicions that they are involved in Rye's death, but they stubbornly refuse to cooperate. He warns them of the Gerhardts' violent history. At the Gerhardt farm, Floyd tells the family to prepare for war.

In Fargo, North Dakota, 1951, Otto takes his young son Dodd to the movie theater, where Kellerman gloats about murdering Dieter Gerhardt. One of Kellerman’s goons places a gun against the back of Otto’s head, but Dodd stabs Kellerman dead, giving Otto the drop on his men. They make their way out of the theater and regain their empire.

In 1979, Dodd’s nephew Charlie makes him pull over on the side of the road so he can show him he can shoot a gun despite his cerebral palsy. Dodd is impressed, and takes him to a local donut shop to help him rough up some Kansas City {{Mooks}}.

Lou and Betsy meet with a doctor, who tells them that the chemotherapy doesn’t seem to have improved Betsy’s blood work. He offers them a trial in which Betsy is given a promising drug or a placebo without knowing which, and they sign up for due to their limited options. Ed and Peggy, meanwhile, have just finished up another round at trying for a baby (from Ed’s perspective, at least). Peggy goes to the bathroom to take her birth control, and to her dismay, Ed tells her that he doesn’t think their financial situation will be able to cover her Life Spring Seminar.

Hanzee stops by the Waffle Hut and finds a shattered shard of glass in the snow by the road. He drives to the local auto shop and finds that the shard matches the taillight of a car that belongs to Ed Blumquist. Sonny comes out and tries politely asking him to stop messing with the cars, but Hanzee pulls out a blade and inquires about Ed. Karl exits the bathroom and ends the Indian’s intimidation by flashing a gun, and Hanzee exits the premises.

At a hotel, Simone informs Mike that Otto is going into the doctor today to be looked at. Hank and Lou, meanwhile, respond to Sonny and Karl’s call about Hanzee. At the auto shop, Lou inspects the vehicle he was caught looking at and theorizes that it could’ve sustained damage from running Rye over outside the Waffle Hut.

The Gerhardts meet with Kansas City and offer a compromise of $1 million and 20% of the company in exchange for staying in charge of North Dakota operations. Bulo is skeptical that Floyd’s boys will honor their mother’s arrangement and draws attention to the men who Dodd attacked earlier that day in the donut shop. Dodd begins yelling at him and is escorted out of the room by Bear. Otto, meanwhile is escorted out of the hospital, only for his cronies to be executed by Mike and the Kitchen brothers in the parking lot. Bulo informs Floyd that her counter arrangement has been rejected and their price has lowered $2 million.

-->'''Bulo:''' Because I respect you and your family, I’m gonna give you the night to think it over. Anything other than unconditional surrender, and we’ll wipe every last Gerhardt off the face of the earth.

At the butcher shop, Ed is informed that his down payment check has bounced and his boss is now considering selling to another buyer. He confronts Peggy, and she goes to Constance to ask for the money back, but Constance once again turns Peggy back to her own needs. That night, Hanzee investigates the Blumquist household and finds Rye’s belt buckle in the fireplace. He leaves when Lou arrives and plants himself on the front porch.

Ed and Peggy find Lou waiting for them when they come home. Lou implies that he knows they’re involved in the crime and offers to help them if they come clean to him now. Peggy asks for him to leave and Ed concedes, so Lou is shown out the door. He returns home where Betsy is taking her meds and sits out on the back porch. Floyd, on the other hand, informs her household that they’re going to war.

Added DiffLines:

* AffablyEvil: The meeting between Kansas City and the Gerhardts goes very respectfully (Dodd's outburst aside). Joe Bulo in particular seems to be the most affable.
* AndIMustScream: The whole parking lot sequence where Otto's men are assassinated right in front of him. He clearly knows something bad is going to happen from the start, and is helpless to move when the bodies start dropping.
* BeneathNotice: Kellerman thinks it was idiotic for Otto to bring his young son Dodd to the movie theater with him, only for Dodd to be the one to plant the knife in the back of his head.

Added DiffLines:

* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: Dodd tearfully leans on his mother on the car ride back from their meeting with Kansas City. At first, she isn't having any of it, but eventually she gives in due to the sheer emotional weight of the day.
* {{Flashback}}: The episode begins with Dodd and Otto's 1951 assassination of Kellerman.

Added DiffLines:

* HeelRealization: It looks like Ed is going to come clean to Lou due to his genuine insistence that he can help, but Peggy interrupts him before anything serious comes out of it.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Peggy seems to think that paying for her Life Spring Seminar is more important than Ed buying the butcher shop and providing them with a financial security upgrade for the foreseeable future.
* MsFanservice: Simone cements herself in this role during this episode, what with her lying in bed completely naked with Mike.
* PsychopathicManChild: Dodd's temper tantrum in front of the Kansas City Mob surely paints their organization in a less stable light, especially since Joe Bulo provoked it by simply pointing out the flaw in a family crime business.
* ThisMeansWar: With nowhere else to turn with their offer rejected, Floyd prepares her family for war against the Kansas City Mob.
* ToplessnessFromTheBack: We get to see Simone's bare ass lying in bed, and her exposed back, though her nipples are being covered by her hair.
