Hope County, Montana isn't looking as hopeful as the name suggests, and for good reason. Joseph Seed, AKA the Father, and his equally deranged cultists of Eden's Gate have rolled into town and are ruling with an iron fist, plundering resources and trying to convert as many people as possible to their cause. They believe that the end times are fast approaching and that the citizens of Hope County are in need of salvation from the impending apocalypse, whether they want it or not. Sheriff Earl Whitehorse, three of his deputies, and U.S. Marshal Cameron Burke are dispatched to arrest Joseph on a kidnapping charge. Unfortunately, the operation falters when on the way out their helicopter is brought down by a few overly fanatical cultists, and the entire team save for [[PlayerCharacter the Junior Deputy]] and Burke gets captured. After the two of them make a daring but futile escape attempt, Burke is also captured, but the Deputy is rescued by "Dutch" Roosevelt, a local prepper. After being put through their paces liberating Dutch's island from a small Eden's Gate presence, the Deputy proceeds to join Hope County's resistance movement to take on the cult and save their teammates.
