* RiddleForTheAges: TheReveal of the final 2 seasons raises the question whether [[spoiler:Johann was a knowing, willing participant in Mildew's scheme or not. It's most likely that Johann knew the deadly effect blue oleander has on dragons, but there's no conclusive evidence either way.]]

* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels: Gobber has these moments when translating Gothi's picture writing, such as when she tells them what's poisoning the dragons.
-->'''Gobber:''' A moose wearing boots... ''(Gothi whacks him with her staff)'' I didn't think that was right.

It was openly stated that blue oleander is poisonous to reptiles, they only believed they were suffering from an allergic reaction before they found out the real cause

* ArtisticLicenseBiology: All the characters refer to the dragons being "allergic" to blue oleander, but if that were the case, getting rid of the flowers (which they apparently make Mildew do off-screen before the Scauldron hunt) would solve the problem completely, which it doesn't -- the damage has been done, and they need to find an antidote. This means blue oleander is ''poisonous'' to dragons like eels are, something completely different from an "allergy." While this is justified given how limited Vikings' medical knowledge would be expected to be...
** Scauldrons' sharp teeth, the fact that they're venomous, and the kids' fear of being eaten in "Free Scauldy" would indicate they're predators like all other dragons, not herbivores. Even if they eat plants, it's all but impossible that a plant that grows on completely dry land would form a regular part of the diet of a creature that lives almost full-time in open sea.

** You cannot extract and purify venom in a usable form that's already been injected into a living victim. It would certainly be beyond the medical equipment/knowledge of Viking times.

After Trader Johann visits, a strange sickness hits the dragons of Berk

!! Tropes
* AmusingInjuries: The Scauldron bites Mildew on the butt, injecting him with the venom that the Berkians need to cure their dragons. Gobber removes the venom with large bellows, which leaves Mildew in even ''more'' pain.
* BookEnds: The episode starts and ends with Hiccup drawing Toothless, once with ink and the second time with charcoal.
* BrainBleach:
** Gobber taking off his silk skivvies, though fortunately he goes behind a rock to do it.
** For Gobber, extracting the venom out of Mildew's butt. He goes into the woods and screams.
* CallBack:
** Stoick's new dragon Thornado only answers to that name because he heard the myth that Hiccup and Stoick repeated, how Thunderdrums get their power from the god Thor.
** Once more Mildew has tried to get rid of the dragons-- by poisoning them this time-- and he cannot be exiled because there's no proof that he planted the oleanders out of malice.
* CasualDangerDialog: Hiccup while helping to tie down the Scauldron repeats his father's warning that if he gets bitten he'll be dead in 24 hours.
* ChekhovsGun: Hiccup thinks to use the blue oleanders that Mildew planted to lure the Scauldron to the boat, so as to get its venom.
* ContinuityNod: Hiccup draws Toothless using the quill that he found with Hamish's treasure.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Mildew gets bitten by the Scauldron because one of the flowers he planted (and dug up on the chief's orders) gets stuck in his trousers. Not only does he inadvertently get the venom that saves the dragons, but he also gets a painful bite and extraction.
* ItsPersonal: Before Stoick was a ReasonableAuthorityFigure, if a reluctant one, about Mildew possibly framing the dragons. Now he is TranquilFury and orders Mildew to help them find the Scauldron, on the threat of being thrown overboard.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Mildew gets this when he's forced to help obtain the Scauldron venom, and gets bitten by the Scauldron.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Not by Mildew himself, but the rest of the Berkians merely see Mildew getting bitten as a means to get the poison that can kill a man in 24 hours. [[LaserGuidedKarma He deserved it, though.]]
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Stoick rides off to a meeting of chiefs on Thornado, making the trip in two days via dragon instead of five via boat. He comes back in a good mood.
* WhyWeCantHaveNiceThings:
** Right after Hiccup pays for a bottle of ink from Trader Johann, Toothless inadvertently knocks it over and smashes it. Hiccup is upset, though he remains patient.
** The twins buy a statue for the Academy, leading to Hiccup praising them for thinking of sprucing up the place. They then order their dragon to fire on the statue as a target, and destroy it.
** Under Gothi's recommendation, the villagers have to give up everything they traded to Johann to figure out the source of the dragons' allergy, placing the objects in a pit. Despite that, the Berkians forgot about Mildew planting flowers.
