Simple Staff has been disambiguated

Compared to other Pokémon, Lucario are [[TheBerserker ''very'' offensively-based]], specializing in both speed and attack, although they do have fair defenses to their name. In addition to the way they prioritize their martial prowess, Lucario can detect auras - [[BackgroundMagicField the force that exists within all living things]]. Lucario are capable of controlling their own aura to create new attacks such as [[EnergyBall Aura Sphere]], an orb of compressed aura that - in addition to being powerful enough to shatter stone bridges - tracks down its target and [[AlwaysAccurateAttack never misses]]. Aura is a versatile tool beyond offensive means as well; Lucario can use it to [[PsychicRadar sense the presence of others and even survey the terrain around it via astral projection]]. It even makes them capable of communicating via telepathy. Lucario are also capable of knowing moves of several different elemental types; a few examples being [[ExtraOreDinary Metal Claw]] - which lets Lucario form [[BladeBelowTheshoulder blades from the spikes on its paws to attack with]], [[DishingOutDirt Bone Rush]] - which sees Lucario form a bone-shaped [[SimpleStaff staff]] of Aura energy as a weapon, and [[BareFistedMonk Close Combat]] - an all-in onslaught that leaves the user's defenses weakened. Lucario are also capable of using moves to support themselves in battle, such as [[HealingHands Heal Pulse]] and [[StatusBuff Swords Dance]].

Monsters come in many shapes and sizes. But the best ones know kung-fu!

[[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Lucario, the steely canine from the world of Pokémon]]. And [[Franchise/{{Digimon}} Renamon, the razor-sharp (and literally) foxy Digimon]].

For the ninth episode of season four, a pair of humanoid animals skilled in the ways of martial arts and quasi-mystical powers will be brought to do battle against one another. As an addendum to the fight, both species will be compared as they are, and on their natural merits; human allies and select transformations are disallowed in this fight. The hosts will pit the control of a [[KiManipulation power within all living things]] against that which [[PowersAsPrograms resides only in one's self]], a [[OpposingCombatPhilosophies knack for versatility against a straightforward up and close style]]: both Lucario and Renamon are talented and are among their respective series' most iconic combatants, but only one can survive [[TitleDrop a death battle]].

To begin, Wizard and Boomstick study the Lucario - a Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon that has dedicated itself to the ways of combat. Typically found in mountains, Lucario constantly train and hone their skills. Compared to other Pokémon, Lucario are very offensively-based, specializing in speed and attack, though they also have fair defenses to their name. Most Lucario are reclusive, preferring to keep their distance from other forms of life. However, they can also become [[UndyingLoyalty stalwart allies]] to those who can manage earn their loyalty.

A Pokémon like Lucario would seem to make for dangerous competition, and such an assumption would be correct. In addition to the way they prioritize their martial prowess, Lucario can detect auras - [[BackgroundMagicField the force that exists within all living things]]. [[KiManipulation Lucario are capable of controlling their own aura]] and using it in moves such as [[EnergyBall Aura Sphere]], an orb of compressed aura that - in addition to being powerful enough to shatter stone bridges - tracks down its target and [[AlwaysAccurateAttack never misses]]. Aura is a versatile tool beyond offensive means as well; Lucario can use it to [[PsychicRadar sense the presences of others and even survey the terrain around it via astral projection]]. It even makes them capable of communicating via telepathy. Lucario are also capable of knowing moves of several different elemental types; a few examples being [[ExtraOreDinary Metal Claw]] - which lets Lucario form blades from the spikes on its paws to attack with, [[DishingOutDirt Bone Rush]] - which sees Lucario form a bone of pure energy as a weapon, and [[BareFistedMonk Close Combat]] - an all-in onslaught that leaves the user's defenses weakened. Lucario are also capable of using moves to support themselves in battle, such as [[HealingHands Heal Pulse]] and [[StatusBuff Swords Dance]].

Of the myriad creatures which inhabit the Pokémon world, Lucario can stand with the best of them. Physical feats from various Lucario have proven this reputation is well-earned; specimens have been shown to destroy metal cranes, reach speeds well over 9000 mph, and can survive fire-based attacks with temperatures of over 2000 degrees. This last point is a particular mark for the species, as being Fighting/Steel means that Lucario are weak to attack affiliated with the Ground, Fire, or Fighting-types. In addition, Lucario are not designed for prolonged combat, as they employ extremely offense-oriented strategies that can quickly wear down their stamina. They can also be confused by tracking multiple auras at once. Still, with a Pokémon that bears such a diverse array of abilities, a specialized talent for combat, and a unique skill for sensing others, Lucario are versatile and able to hold their own against any foe.

'''[[Anime/PokemonLucarioAndTheMysteryOfMew Lucario]]:''' (telepathically) You snuck up behind me. That is ''always'' a mistake.

Moving on from Lucario, the analyze its opponent, Renamon - one of the myriad Digimon that inhabit the digital world. As rookie Digimon, Renamon are quite powerful for their level. Similar to Lucario, Renamon possess a high attack and speed, but [[GlassCannon sacrifices defense in the process]]. Renamon resemble the Japanese kitsune, but bear little in common with them beyond the design; they tend to do little mischief making, instead being ruthlessly pragmatic. They see humans as little ore than a tool for their own advancement.

Selfish though they may be, Renamon are also composed and stoic, letting this demeanor stand firm even in battle. Renamon are experts in close-quarters fighting, using its speed in various techniques, such as [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Swift Strike, Rapid Kick, and Spin Kick]]. However, Renamon can channel an inner energy that stems from their kitsune origins; with it, they can use this inner energy and manifest it in the form of fire sprouting from their limbs, or conjure clones to assist them in battle. Renamon's ultimate technique, the Diamond Storm, whips up a gust of wind and propels several sharp leaves, capable of shattering blue ice - a feat that requires at least 6000 pounds of pressure per square inch.

As soon as she touches the ground, Renamon manages to hit Lucario with Palm Strike: the blow sends him flying, giving her some distance from him. Renamon may resemble the Japanese kitsune, but bear little in common with them beyond the design; they tend to do little mischief making, instead seeing humans as a tool for their own advancement.

Selfish though they may be, Renamon are also composed and stoic, letting this demeanor stand firm even in battle. Renamon are experts in close-quarters fighting, using its speed in various techniques, such as [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Swift Strike, Rapid Kick, Spin Kick]]. However, Renamon can channel an inner energy that stems from their kitsune origins; with it, they can use this inner energy and manifest it in the form of fire sprouting from its limbs or conjure clones to assist it in battle. Renamon's ultimate technique, the Diamond Storm, whips up a gust of wind and propels several sharp leaves, capable of slicing through blue ice with over 6000 pounds of pressure per square inch.

Getting to confront a Renamon is no small task given how well they consistently prove themselves. Renamon are capable of moving too fast for the human eye to track, and even maintain a movement speed of these levels without problem. Despite their seemingly frail defense, Renamon can also be surprisingly durable, including surviving a pressurized air current strong enough to destroy concrete. Such feats are few and far between, however, proving that their limited defenses are the norm and not the exception. But with skills as pronounced as those they carry, Renamon are landmarks in the digital world and for good reason.

The birdcalls and the crack of leaves are the only sounds that otherwise inhabit the realm of a distant jungle. Renamon, the Beast Man Digimon, darts through the undergrowth, vaulting off walls and traversing a ruined temple deep underground. There, standing atop a broken spire, is the Aura Pokémon, Lucario, meditating and channeling its aura. The Renamon voices her disdain for the Lucario's presence, insisting he be gone, but he instead channels his aura once more in the face of this new threat.

The fight begins with Lucario making the first move. Using Extreme Speed, he rushes the Beast Man Digimon. As the confused Guilmon stumbles upon the corpse of Renamon, Lucario returns to his meditation, channeling aura as if the preceding bloodshed was never an incident. The hosts concede the fight between the two was extremely close, with numerous advantages both fighters held over their foe; however, Renamon's capacity for traveling far faster than eyesight was its primary advantage. Lucario's aura, in turn, could detect Renamon's aura and sense its movements, with its own speed helping close the gap. Its own varied movepool would also let Lucario adapt to Renamon's strategies while the Digimon itself was limited to a select few skills. While both combatants had little in the way of durability, Lucario had recovery and means of increasing its attack, which put Renamon at a disadvantage. However, Lucario's biggest strength lied in its offensive prowess; the feat of breaking industrial-strength cranes with a Bone Rush puts it at delivering blows with a force of 56000 PSI, nearly ten times stronger than Renamon's own record. Both fighters are honed and well-versed in their shared craft, but Renamon had less to offer and much less ways to compete.

The Beast Man Digimon can only dart around herself, with kicks that hit nothing but air; enhanced with aura, Lucario's Extreme Speed lets him evade Renamon's eyesight and knock her away with an uppercut. Renamon soon catches on, effortlessly parrying the Aura Pokémon's ensuing movements. Parrying and blocking, however, are two different things, a fact Renamon learns as Lucario knocks her upward and barely leaps over a Force Palm that shatters a wall. A Palm Strike as soon as she touches the ground gives Renamon some distance from Lucario, no matter how brief her reprieve is. As she closes the distance, Lucario sends Renamon back with an Aura Sphere, but the Digimon quickly recovers.

Renamon channels fire into her limbs, leaping from crumbling bricks and walls before slamming Lucario to the temple floor with a Power Paw. The match quickly turns back to her favor, chasing Lucario down and laying into him with a series of roundhouse kicks. An upward kick is quickly followed up by the Data Digimon's signature skill of Diamond Storm, but just before the leaves reach their intended target, the Fighting/Steel-type regains sense of his surroundings, forming a bone out of aura; with Bone Rush does Lucario bat away the leaves and, aiming at his kitsune nemesis from above, releases a massive ray of pure energy towards her.

The Aura Pokémon barely misses his target with the Dragon Pulse, giving Renamon time to leap out its path, hastily scurrying up a soon-to-topple pillar. Right as the pillar gives way, the Beast Man Digimon leaps off and delivers an axe kick upon her hapless foe, soon following up with the Rapid Kick technique. Lucario slams back down onto solid earth once more.

Lucario fails to be perturbed by the Digimon's demeaning comments, though the toll the fight has taken on him is beginning to show. Caught by surprise from a second Diamond Storm, the Pokémon braves through the pain as the leaves run through him, channeling his aura into another Extreme Speed, with an aura-laden bone gripped tight. Renamon's ensuing disbelief is cut short as Lucario knocks her upwards with the bone, launching a rapidly-paced Bone Rush assault with the weapon; trapped in the bone as Lucario hurtles it akin to a boomerang, the Digimon is flung upwards and with an extra thrust, has the bone run through her neck. A few fleeting gurgles are all Renamon can muster before her injuries take their toll, and with them, her life. After Lucario dissipates the bone and lets Renamon's remains slump to the floor a moment later, the Aura Pokémon leaps away.

As an addendum to the fight, both species will be compared as they are on their natural merits; as human allies and select transformations would be deemed outside help, such abilities are outlawed in this fight. The hosts will pit the control of a power within all living things against that which resides only in one's self, a knack for versatility against a straightforward up and close style, for both Lucario and Renamon are talented and are among their respective series' most iconic combatants, but only one can survive when faced with conflict only found in [[TitleDrop a death battle]].

To begin, Wizard and Boomstick study the Lucario, a Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon that has dedicated itself to the ways of combat. Traditionally the species are found in mountains, training and honing their skills. Compared to other Pokémon, Lucario are offensively-based, specializing in speed and attack, with fair defenses to their name. Most Lucario are reclusive, preferring to keep their distance from other forms of life; those who can trust in others and earn their loyalty, however, will become stalwart allies, capable of communicating to them via telepathy.

A Pokémon like Lucario would seem to make for opposing competition, and such an assumption would be correct. In addition to the way they prioritize their martial prowess, Lucario are capable of knowing moves of several different elemental types; a few examples being [[ExtraOreDinary Metal Claw]], which lets Lucario form blades from the spikes on its paws to attack with; [[DishingOutDirt Bone Rush]], which sees Lucario form a bone of pure energy as a weapon; and [[BareFistedMonk Close Combat]], an all-in onslaught that leaves the user's defenses weakened. Lucario are also capable of using moves to support itself in battle, such as [[HealingHands Heal Pulse]] and [[StatusBuff Swords Dance]], but a skill that all the species' own is that to detect aura, described as the force that exists within all living things. Lucario are capable of controlling their own aura and using it in moves such as Aura Sphere, an orb of compressed aura that, in addition to destroying stone bridges, tracks down its target and never misses as a result. Aura is still a versatile tool beyond offensive means as well; Lucario can use it to sense the presences of others and even survey the terrain around it via astral projection.

In addition, Lucario are not designed for prolonged combat, employing strategies that are heavily offense-oriented and wear down their already-limited stamina, which can also be depleted by tracking multiple auras. Still, with a Pokémon that bears such a diverse array of abilities, a specialized talent for combat, and a unique skill for sensing others, Lucario are versatile and able to hold their own against any foe.

-->'''[[Anime/PokemonLucarioAndTheMysteryOfMew Ash Ketchum]]:''' (gets tackled by Lucario, knocking off his hat) Why'd you do that!?\\
'''[[Anime/PokemonLucarioAndTheMysteryOfMew Lucario]]:''' (telepathically) You snuck up behind me. That is ''always'' a mistake.

Moving on from Lucario, the hosts move on to its combatant, Renamon, one of the myriad Digimon that inhabit the digital world, an alternate dimension that exists alongside the real world. As rookie Digimon, Renamon are still powerful for their strength level; like their opponent, Renamon possess high attack and speed while sacrificing defense in the process.

-->'''[[Anime/DigimonTamers Renamon]]:''' I must rely on the power within me. I am alone in this world.

Both fighters have been studied and given a fair chance to prove their worth. One advertisement for the Blue Apron cooking service later, and now, it's time for a death battle!

As soon as the kitsune garners the attention of the jackal, the glow of aura disappears, its owner dropping down onto the temple floor. The Renamon voices her disdain for the Lucario's presence, insisting he be gone, but he instead channels his aura once more in the face of this new threat.

'''FIGHT!'''

'''K.O.!'''

As the confused Guilmon stumbles upon the corpse of Renamon is, Lucario returns to his meditation, channeling aura as if the preceding bloodshed was never an incident.

!!''Lucario vs. Renamon'' contains examples of:
* ArtisticLicense: In the ''Pokémon'' games, Heal Pulse restores health to anyone ''except'' the species using it, but the move is treated like [[HealThyself Recover]] in Lucario's rundown and in the post-match analysis.
* CompositeCharacter: Both Lucario and Renamon are given feats from their respective games and anime; Renamon in particular is given a voice during the fight akin to that from ''Anime/DigimonTamers''.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: How the fight ends, with Renamon gored on Lucario's aura bone.
* LamePunReaction: Even ''Renamon itself'' is disgusted by Boomstick's "paw-to-paw combat" pun, flipping off a rooftop and getting the hell away from him.
* NonIndicativeName: Boomstick complains that the one fanciful name in Renamon's list of abilities, Diamond Storm, instead releases a torrent of leaves.
* RuleThirtyFour: Boomstick learns the hard way that Digimon can be and are sexualized.

** Brief clips from ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV'', and ''WesternAnimation/MonstersUniversity'' are scattered throughout the episode.
** The match's outcome is likened to ''Disney/TheFoxAndTheHound'' "with a not so happy ending" as Boomstick puts it (which could also be an homage to the ending [[Literature/TheFoxAndTheHound of the original novel]]).
