On Galactica, the CIC crews of both Battlestars are planning the rescue operation. Bill notes that if they want to get the grounded ships off the planet, they'll need the launch keys that were confiscated by the Cylons. Kat suggests outfitting the resistance members with delivered weapons, but Lee counters that that it would tip off the Cylons. Bill has another idea, and goes to enact his decision.

On Pegasus, Lee and Dualla discover that Bill plans to release Sharon from confinement and use her to rendezvous with the resistance members. Elsewhere, a copy of Cavil and Ellen are having sex. Cavil tells her that they know Saul is leading the resistance, and threaten to kill him unless Ellen provides them with the meeting place and time for the next resistance meeting. As Saul and Tyrol plan their rendezvous with a Raptor from Galactica, Ellen enters and observes their actions. Onboard Galactica, Sharon is sworn in as a Colonial officer in front of Bill, Helo and the rest of the command crew, and promises not to betray her oath to the Colonies. She leaves on the departing Raptor, but not before Bill reaffirms his trust in her actions.

'''Season 3, Episode 2:'''
!Precipice

In the aftermath of the [[Recap/BattlestarGalactica2003S03E01Occupation New Caprica Police Academy graduation bombing]], several civilians are rounded up and imprisoned at the Detention Center by the Cylons, including Roslin. Baltar visits her cell and expresses shock and horror at the attack, and asks her to join him in condoning the resistance's actions.

Roslin refuses to agree, though, and despite his attempts to convince her that policing is needed on New Caprica, she counters by accusing the Cylons of conducting random arrests and torture. Baltar leaves, though not before releasing her and explaining that things have become very dangerous.

That night, Cavil leads a group of new police recruits on a nighttime raid. Meanwhile, Tigh and Tyrol are planning another bombing attack. Tyrol objects to the fact that they're now targeting innocent civilian, and they mull over whether they're doing the right thing or not. At the same time, the police, led by the newly-promoted Jammer, arrest a number of civilians including Cally. Tyrol arrives back at his tent after the meeting to find Cally gone and his son left alone.

Later on the planet, Tyrol goes to Gaeta, unaware that he's the inside informant, and asks if he knows what happened to Cally. Gaeta is unsure, but promises to look into it, while Tyrol expresses indignation at the latter working for the Cylons.

Elsewhere, Jammer is contemplating his actions the night before when Tyrol walks by and asks if he's alright. Jammer says he's fine, but asks if the policemen have just been blinded and led astray by the Cylons, but Tyrol assures him that the collaborators will be executed for their actions.

In Kara's apartment, Leoben enters again with another surprise - a child named Kacey, who he claims is a hybrid that was bred from her [[Recap/BattlestarGalactica2003S02E05TheFarm removed eggs when she was captured on Caprica]]. Kara refuses to believe it, and tells the child to stay away from her. Lee counters that they should focus more on protecting the fleet they already have than risking everything on a variable. Bill agrees, and tells Lee to stay with the fleet on the Pegasus, while the Galactica will enact the rescue mission on its own.

Roslin meets with Tigh and tells him to stop the bombings. When Tigh accuses her of working for the Cylons, she slaps him then apologizes soon after. Tigh tells her that she should stop being naive and accept that the bombings are no different from sending men on suicide missions, and to save her morality until she's back in power.

At the Detention Center, Boomer is approached by Jammer and asked to check in on Cally. Inside, Boomer goes to Cally's cell and tells her she's happy for her new child, but that she can't release her. In response, Cally asks how many she has to kill the latter before she stays dead.

At the New Caprica hospital, Kara and Leoben monitor Kacey's condition, and Kara is beside herself for being negligent, while Leoben is happy that she's taken an interest in the child.

Another suicide bombing is conducted, which kills several Cylons at a power station. The Cylon leadership agrees that harsher measures are necessary against the populace, and go to Baltar asking for him to sign a document authorizing the execution of detainees. Baltar is shocked and refuses to sign the document. Although Caprica-Six tries to defend him, she is silenced by a bullet to the head. Fearing for his life, [=HeadSix=] appears to Baltar and tells him to sign the order. With a gun pressed against his head, Baltar reluctantly signs the document, and the New Caprica Police arrest more civilians throughout the city.

Saul gives her the map to the meeting place, but instead of burning it as he requested, she hides it in her pocket.

Onboard Galactica, Sharon is sworn in as a Colonial officer in front of Bill, Helo and the rest of the command crew, and promises not to betray her oath to the Colonies. She leaves on the departing Raptor, but not before Bill reaffirms his trust in her actions.

The rounded-up prisoners are put into trucks and driven out of the settlement, while Gaeta confronts Baltar about his actions. Baltar says that although he knows what he's done, he didn't have a choice in the matter. The convoy of trucks stops near a quarry, and Cavil tells the guards to let the prisoners out to stretch. Roslin, who was arrested in the sweep, exits the truck to find Tom Zarek, who had spent the last few months in detention. They share a light moment when he candidly asks her if she tried to rig the presidential election a year earlier. She responds candidly in kind with a "yes", prompting Tom to laugh softly, and wish, in hindsight, that she went through with it.

Elsewhere, Anders and several resistance members head to the meeting site, while at the hospital, Kacey awakens and Kara looks on in relief. At the quarry, a disguised-with-hood Jammer cuts Cally's restraints and tells her to start running.

At the meeting site, Anders meets with the Raptor and Sharon and they begin discussing their plans, only to be cut short when a group of Centurions suddenly appears and begins shooting at them...

Cally runs away from the convoy as a group of Centurions walk over the ridge of the quarry and aim their weapons at the prisoners. As Cally runs down a hill and through a forest, sustained gunfire is heard...

!Tropes:

* {{Cliffhanger}}: Cally running into the woods as Centurions presumably open fire on the detainees, while another group of Centurions ambushes Anders and Sharon.
* ClusterFBomb: Of the "frak" variety. Cally says "frak you, you stupid frakked-up toaster!" when Boomer visits her at the Detention Center.
* GallowsHumor: Zarek bringing up Roslin's failed rigging of the vote (and wishing in retrospect that she had gone through with it) in the election while the convoy is stopped in the middle of nowhere.
* {{Hypocrite}}: The Cylons disdain the resistance's method of conducting suicide attacks against them, despite doing the [[Recap/BattlestarGalactica2003S01E06Litmus same]] [[Recap/BattlestarGalactica2003S02E20LayDownYourBurdensPart2 thing]] in the past.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: The entirety of the main and supporting cast (including all of the Cylon human models) all appear in some capacity during the episode.
* NoOneShouldSurviveThat: Jammer somehow survives Duck's suicide bombing unscathed, although a DeletedScene showed him clawing his way out from beneath the corpses of his fellow policemen.
* OhCrap: Baltar, when the Cylons threatening him to sign the order shoot Caprica-Six in the head.
* TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized: Tyrol and Tigh discussing whether it's right to suicide bomb the Cylons.
--> '''Tyrol''': This is crazy. You know, we need to figure out whose side we're on.
--> '''Tigh''': Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: When Lee tries to convince his father that leaving New Caprica and protecting the ships they still have is the safest and best option, Bill dismisses him and says that he owes it to the people on the planet to rescue them.
* TrialBalloonQuestion: Jammer asks Tyrol if the New Caprica Police are just honest men forced to do bad things and Tyrol tells him the collaborators will be hanged for their actions, not knowing Jammer is one himself.
