* SadistShow: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] since Shaun typically shows Remington good/popular anime with the intent to get his honest opinion on it. However, the few times Shaun trolls Remington with truly awful anime, the main appeal will be Remington's suffering.

* SoBadItsGood: Remington holds this opinion of ''Forest Fairy Five'', where he openly acknowledges how horrible it is, but he also revels in the low-quality madness. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] in the case of ''Manga/DomesticGirlfriend'' in that while he was hoping to have such an opinion of the anime, he ended up enjoying it for it's actual merits.

''Anime out of Context'' is a podcast started in 2018 by Shaun Rollins and Remington Chase. Each week, Shaun shows his good buddy Remington an anime to demonstrate the various tropes and conventions found in the medium. An average episode runs as follows: Shaun introduces an anime, both of them watch it, then Remington gives his critiques and opinions of said anime. Depending on the anime, he may give a thorough, well thought out viewpoint discussing the pros and cons of the subject, or he'll [[AccentuateTheNegative go on a nigh hour tirade bashing and criticizing everything he believes to be wrong with the anime.]] Either way, it turns out to be very entertaining (especially for Shaun).

!!''Anime Out of Context'' provides examples of the following tropes.

* AccentuateTheNegative: While Remington is usually pretty rational and well mannered when giving his opinions, if he thinks an anime is ''especially'' bad, he will not hesitate to give every reason why said anime sucks.
* BerserkButton:
** Remington absolutely can ''not'' stand what he refers to as "[[VanillaProtagonist Bland bitch protagonists]]." {{Fanservice}}, misogyny (or any kind of sexism in general), [[IncestIsRelative incest-related plots]], and bland plot lines will also quickly earn his ire.
** Shaun has grown sick of Remington bringing up ''Anime/HimoutoUmaruChan'' as a constant comparison point. He also doesn't like it when he (jokingly) brings up ''WesternAnimation/CodeLyoko'' as an idea for an episode. Also, any time that Remington criticizes an anime he ''really'' likes (see their episodes on ''Anime/SpiritedAway'' and ''Anime/GurrenLagann'' for examples.)
* TheGadfly: Shaun may be teaching his friend the ins and outs of anime, but that doesn't stop him from intentionally showing him horrendous anime just to see his [[RageBreakingPoint composure snap in half.]]
* SempaiKohai: Shaun and Rem share this dynamic, with Shaun being the sempai and Remington being the Kohai.
* TemptingFate: At one point, Remington promised that he would join the (then) newly created Discord server. Because he didn't keep his promise, Shaun decided to show him continuously worse anime until he gave in and kept his promise. Big mistake. [[labelnote:note]]Shaun started by showing Remington ''Anime/{{Keijo}}'', followed by two weeks of ''LightNovel/SwordArtOnline II.'' Remington still didn't budge, leading Shaun to show him ''Conception'' (based on the video game of the same name), which turned out to be one of (if not ''the'') worst anime the two of them had ever seen (and not in the SoBadItsGood sort of way.)[[/labelnote]]
