* The Goblins are one of [[DeathWorld many, many]] dangers present in the world of Dwarf Fortress, and usually for Dwarves one of its most consistent threats. They're a "civilized" race that specializes in raiding fortresses, looting as much as possible and slaughtering anyone they can find. Their most infamous acts are how they treat the children of those they raid: they send out "Snatchers" to locate and kidnap any child they can find, upon which they then take them back to their base and raised them to be honorary Goblins. Despite their evil nature, they don't discriminate, and so Goblin bases can consist of as many kidnapped, brainwashed children as actual Goblins. The same goes for leadership, as they have a MightMakesRight mentality and so obey anyone strong enough, from their fellow Goblins to anyone that actually takes over their base, up to even Demons. The Goblins overall are some of the most recurring threats of an average Dwarf Fortress, and unlike other races like Elves they don't need a reason to raid bases other than for fun.
* It was for these reasons that the Dwarves that ascended to The Pantheon enjoyed their time there, as while The Pantheon was far from harmless it was a nice change of pace from being constantly raided by Goblins and having to hide the children as a result. That was, until one fateful evening where the Dwarves were caught in a surprise Goblin attack, the race having somehow found their way to the realm and had found out there were some Dwarves there as well. Despite how sudden the ambush was, The Goblins, who still had the habit of attacking the quickest way in, were still caught in a trap that the Dwarves set up out of instinct, allowing the Dwarves to fight back and eventually defeat the horde without any missing children. It was with a bit more research that they discovered that The Goblins were ascended under [[InvasionOfTheBabySnatchers Child Abduction]] due to their child-kidnapping shenanigans, to the collective dismay of the Dwarves, who then went to the tavern to drink their sorrows away. [[NoodleIncident It also may have resulted in a messy incident, but at this point it's expected of the Dwarves.]]
* Since then, The Goblins and The Dwarves have taken turns fighting each other, whether it be the Goblins doing their usual raids or the Dwarves raiding them in return to find either their children or some iron. Most of the info The Pantheon has on them come from the Dwarves in exchange for supplies, who fight them enough to know how they tic and figured that The Pantheon would like to know more about these menaces. Naturally, being an ambitious lot, The Goblins are more than willing to raid other strongholds and villages for supplies and children, they just target the Dwarves more out of habit. Thankfully, while by all means threatening and dangerous, they aren't nearly as successful at raiding others as the Pantheon take their antics much more seriously than the Dwarves do, to the point where their child kidnappings rarely happen without someone rescuing them.
* To start off, The Goblins don't have much in the way of mutual allies: they literally lack the empathy to make truces with anyone that isn't a goblin, and so have far more enemies in The Pantheon than allies. They're a bit better when it comes to fellow Goblins and are willing to at least tolerate an alliance with the more mighty ones, seeing them as a good example of a Goblin. Skarsnik is perhaps the first that comes to mind, as a highly cunning member of a normally stupid race, specializing in ambushes. Skarsnik saw potential in the Dwarf Fortress Goblins, but was irritated by their frankly mindless tactics and so every now and again drops by to teach them how to properly raid a base, resulting in more effective than usual raids on the Dwarves. Meanwhile, notorious Goblin criminal Dr. Boom plays a more indirect role in teaching the Goblins, in that he simply gives them some of his tech and lets them run wild with them. The Goblins occasionally get some good use out of the explosive ordinance, such as making their own shortcuts, but otherwise they usually end in the Goblins blowing themselves up. Boom has mixed feelings on this, as on the one hand he's a bit exasperated at how bad they are at using it, but on the other its also really funny and results in some spectacular explosions, so he lets it slide and lets the money come in.
** Of course, not all of the Goblin's allies are Goblins: back in their home world, The Goblins had a MightMakesRight mentality that resulted in them serving whoever was strong enough to conqure them, and thanks to a lack of discrimination they didn't give a rats ass on who it was: if they were strong, they'd serve it. This is a simialr mindset shared by Orks Grimgore Ironhide and Warboss Ghazghkull, who also have goblins under their rule through sheer might. As a result, as soon as the Goblins ascended both Orks conquered a number of bases and claimed their Goblins as their own, being amused at how exited they were to serve them thank to their philosophies, and have since enjoyed their ruthless new bosses. The Overlords, themselves owning an army of dumber, more numerous goblins, have gotten their hands on some Goblins after taking over a base, and they pretty much treat them the same as they do their other men, that is to say completely disposable cannon fodder. Jareth, the Goblin King, is an interesting case, as while he isn't exactly ''evil'', more amoral than anything and capable of genuine care, he still found himself gaining some Goblins who respect him for being a Goblin King that once kidnapped a child. Still, he found their antics rather amusing, so he allows them to stay, though he hasn't done much with them yet thankfully.
** Of course, being Goblins, it was frankly inevitable that they would end up under the radar of the Goblin Slayer, who is ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin and more. The Slayer noticed that they were fairly similar to his Goblins back in his home world: cruel, AlwaysChaoticEvil bastards that killed and pillaged to their hearts content, only with the Dwarf Fortress Goblins being slightly less visceral about their crimes than they are and slightly more sophisticated. Still, an evil Goblin's a dead Goblin to him, so as soon as he heard of them having destroyed a village and kidnapped the children, he tracked them down and began a brutal slaughter, killing every goblin he saw while managing to rescue the kidnapped children. The Slayer has since struck a few times more and has struck fear into the hearts of many a Goblin, terrified of the day the Goblin Slayer decides to strike again.
* As you can tell by now, the Goblins specialize in raiding and pilfering any populated structure or base they can find, and while this was hardly unique back in their home world, they were unique in that they never needed a reason to do it: they pretty much did it for fun and could strike at any time. This became a massive problem for any survivalist in The Pantheon, as while they rarely had any children in it, they were often stuffed with enough loot and goodies for the Goblins to be interested in a raid. Steve and Alex, just one of their victims, at least had experience in dealing with raiders in the form of the Illigers, and they were more coordinated than the Goblins, who prefer to bum-rush their problems until they're dead. Still, one advantage of a Goblin raid is that they carry a ton of iron equipment, so after their raids Steve and Alex, on advice from the Dwarves, are able to stock up on Iron Ingots fairly easily. Wilson has a bit more trouble with the Goblins, but is aware of their insistence on taking the shortest route possible and so intentionally made a shortcut filled with as many traps as possible. Sure enough, he's usually able to take out massive amounts of Goblins while cleaning up anyone that didn't go in. The Goblins are impressed that only a handful of people are able to keep an effective base running, but that just motivates them to try and raid them again, as whatever they spend so long guarding must be good, right?
* Another aspect of the Goblins is their willingness to eat anything that's sapient, from Dwarves and Elves to Humans and Animal People. This is notably one line the chaotic Dwarves don't cross, and while the Elves do something similar they have a [[BlueAndOrangeMorality warped sense of morality from it]] (it keeps the corpses from wasting, you see); the Goblins just do it out of bloodlust. This lead to them planning on invading the hall of Pantheon/FleshEaters to raid it of its potential stockpile of sapient creature meat, and they didn't care if it was mostly just humans. While the hall was fully prepared for a fight, surprisingly it was alien human-consumer Lord Crumb that defused the situation by simply offering free service at his restaurant, which literally served humans, even offering to ad Dwarves to the menu. [[PragmaticVillainy The whole thing was so that Crumb and his business wouldn't be killed in the crossfire]], but either way even the Goblins were both interested in free food and impressed by his ballsy ploy, so they agreed. Crumb would rather they paid for their food considering how many order stuff, but still was content with having an army that could prove useful in the future, and the Goblins are willing to tolerate Crumb as long as he keeps delivering them Dwarven meat.
* So to expand on their otherwise self-explanatory title, during raids the Goblins send out "Snatchers" to find and kidnap as many of the bases children as possible, taking them back to their own base afterwards. It's here that they end up raising the children as their own, teaching them to be as much of a bastard as the rest of them. How they actually raise them isn't known, but considering even the nicest child can be converted to their side, chances are it ain't good. As a result of their kidnappings, a Goblin stronghold can house as many converted races as proper Goblins, and while they can be saved it's only straight after they've been kidnapped; any more time and they're permanently converted to their side. Ever since they've ascended, every good parent in the Pantheon has kept a sharp, ''sharp'' eye out for any Goblins that might want to steal their children, especially those that are able to fight back against them. It's this increased security that has led to significantly less kidnapped children than usual. Not that they aren't successful at it, it's that they can't keep a child captured for five minutes without someone launching a rescue mission to save the children, which often ends in success for the other side. t's this that left the Goblins starved for children...
** ... and lead to the incident involving Pleasure island. Pleasure Island, led by the insidious Coachman, was an island that lured children in via promising fun and games, only to turn them into Donkeys that would be sold t the salt mines. The Goblins put two and two together and realized that, considering ts unfortunate success, Pleasure Island must be filled with untransformed children to kidnap, and so with help from Skarsnik organized their biggest heist yet. The attack was sudden, as the sinister island was suddenly raided by psychopathic warriors who were making a beeline towards wherever the children are, leaving the Coachman to try and fend them off. It didn't take long for some other heroic gods to step in.. so they can take advantage of the chaos and rescue the children trapped in Pleasure Island while the two sides fight over basically nothing. In the end, Pleasure Island was a wreck, the Goblins reluctantly left without any kidnappes, and a beaten-up and ''very'' furious Coachman was left having to clean up the mess with no children to his name. [[AssholeVictim Thankfully]].
* A bigger raid later occurred when the Goblins found out, through some rather sketchy sources, about a particular dungeon apparently filled with goodies and "loads and loads of children", leaving the Goblins to organize an even bigger raid party to explore the dungeon, at the very least expecting a challenge considering how up-front the rumors were. What they probably didn't expect was that the dungeon itself was alive, housing the nefarious Keeper, and was fully prepared for the Goblins invasion. The resulting massacre was a sight to behold, with the Goblins being slaughtered in droves by various clever booby traps while the Keeper could barely keep itself from laughing at the embarrassing display from his enemies. Hundreds of dead Goblins later, and they were forced to call in a retreat after finally realizing that, just maybe, the whole thing was a trick and wasn't worth the casualties. The Keeper would later confirm that yes, it was indeed it that spread the rumor, having spread it to lure the Goblins into its clutches because [[ItAmusedMe it really wanted to kill some goblins that day]].
