* Jaeger and implicitly Godwin blackmailing Yusei into participating in the fortune cup by threatening his friends in Satelite.

* Everything about the [[EldritchAbomination Earthbound Immortals/Gods/Jibakushin]]. [[SealedEvilInACan Every single]] [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown bloody thing]]. They're in-universe Nightmare Fuel, utterly terrifying the cast when they show up, and its not hard to understand why; they're NighInvulnerable EldritchAbomination OlympusMons. Aslla piscu and Wiraqocha Rasca are easily the worst due to their brutal effects, but the scene with BOTH Ccaryhua and Aslla piscu surrounding the Arcadia Movement building is rather unnerving.

** The summonings of Ccarayhua and Aslla piscu are perhaps even scarier, since Carly and Misty were dueling in the Arcadia Movement HQ. Ccarayhua's heart sucks up hundreds of innocent civilians as they scream in terror and the blast unleashed by the heart creates a massive dust cloud with a massive ''thing'' moving around inside it. As Aki asks where the new monster is, Misty tells her to turn around, and a ''very'' unnerving groan echoes as ''something'' moves behind her, completely blotting out the window with grey before the big green eye opens and Aki screams in horror, givin us a long pan of Ccarayhua grasping the building like a {{Kaiju}}. And ''then'' Carly summons Aslla piscu, debuting its terrifying cry and there's an utterly terrifying shot of it ''eyeballing'' Sayer before smashing the top floor of the building with a single peck. There's a terrifying few shots of both giant monsters surrounding the building, each fixed on their opponent.

* Carly Carmine (or Nagisa) during the Shadows of Doubt two-parter. While the reasoning for Carly's turn to the dark side may come of as [[DisproportionateRetribution absolutely petty]], the dream sequence Jack has once Carly plays the Enlightenment Trap Card is terrifying. Simply put, there's an alternate future where Carly ends up winning the duel, turns Jack into a Dark Signer, and ''turns the entire planet into '''a volcanic wasteland''' where no one except the two of them survive''.

** Even worse about this is that during the ''Anime/YuGiOhBondsBeyondTime'' event on TV Tropes, Pegasus implies the existence of an infinite multiverse when he interacts with Paradox. Meaning that the alternate future shown in the first part of Shadows of Doubt could have been one of them.

* Sect starts off as Yusei's TagalongKid, but makes a DealWithTheDevil, taking a Duel Dragon and [[DrunkOnTheDarkSide succumbing to its influence]]. He gets progressively more violent over the course of the [=D1GP=] and, when Yusei shows up during his duel with Jack, [[BodyHorror HIS FACE IS FLAKING OFF.]] And it doesn't end with that. It happens [[UpToEleven again with Ruka]], while she emits a dark aura that surrounds Rua, not unlike the Aslla piscu/Carly incident. Ruka, TheHeart in the anime, with her face cracking and flaking!

** Aki and Divine get a rather nasty introduction to the above; the monsters are too big to fit into the building, so they appear outside, blotting out the windows.
** Kiryu summoning Ccapac Apu against Yusei. He sends it for a direct attack, Stardust Dragon tries to stop it and the giant's hand passes right through it. If Yusei's D-Wheel hadn't broken down before the attack the attack would have killed him.

* Kiryu's Infernity deck. Actually, ''just Kiryu''. Everything he does in the first duel with Yusei was primarily to further his deck's goal and to attack Yusei with almost sadistic glee. The dub is actually quite good at giving Kiryu a very insane laugh and 4Kids' jokes only serve to emphasize his madness.

** It is revealed that the arm belonged to [[spoiler: Rudger Godwin]] who ''sawed his own arm off without any sort of anesthesia''.
** In an early episode it is revealed that [[spoiler: Rex Godwin]] has a [[spoiler: false metal arm]]. In episode 62, he takes the arm out of the jar, and, [[spoiler: with the purpose of absorbing the arm's evil power,]] attaches the severed arm (which had been floating in that jar for over 17 years!) to his own live upper-arm tissue. [[spoiler: This turns him into the ultimate Dark Signer.]]

** Speaking of [[spoiler: Placido]], he has a rather [[FamilyUnfriendlyDeath graphic death]]. How graphic is it? Well, the animators apparently decided that they would subject the viewer to the lovely site of: his spine [[spoiler: (which looks very much like a human's)]] being stretched before it is torn apart. Severed red and blue [[spoiler: wires]] (veins anyone?) are clearly visible sticking out of the centers of both halves of his torn vertebrae. ''Does him being a [[spoiler: robot]] somehow '''justify''' such a blatantly graphic death?''
*** It doesn't help that his dead face gets stuck in an expression of ultimate terror, and it ''stays that way'', shown and zoomed in on several times in episode 110. As if the viewer hadn't be traumatized enough! [[spoiler: When he "revives", the right side of his new face is covered with what appears to be tribal-esque marks. Though considering they are violet, they could very well be bruises. Eeeuuuughhh.]]

** Kiryu summoning Ccapac Apu against Yusei. He sends it for a direct attack, Stardust Dragon tries to stop it and the giant's hand passes right through it. If Yusei's D-Wheel hadn't broken down before the attack it it's implied it would have killed him.
** Demak summoning Cusillu against Lua. Lua runs out of the way of Cusillu's giant coming down and it smashed a hole in the ground. It's all but stated that unlike when other monsters brought to life in supernatural duels in previous seasons, if an Earthbound God's attack his you, you will die, even if it doesn't deplete your lifepoints.

* A notable and unusual one is a shot of Ruka with a skull for a face.

* The Earthbound Gods could qualify.
* Kiryu Kyouske. Everything he does in the first duel with Yusei was primarily to further his deck's goal and to attack Yusei with almost sadistic glee. The dub is actually quite good at giving Kiryu a very insane laugh and 4Kids' jokes only serve to emphasize his madness.

* Professor Frank is a prime source of NightmareFuel, using his psychoanalysis-themed deck to steadily torment and MindRape poor innocent Ruka while remaining eerily calm himself. His cards include a combination of equip cards that subject opposing monsters to constant torture while they remain immortal in the face of his ace card, [[TheJuggernaut Id the Super-Demonic Lord]], who refuses to die even when the Ancient Forest's effect smites him. Worse still is when he enters the spirit world, and his presence alone causes the beautiful world around him to wither away, forcing the Ancient Fairy Dragon to make an attempt on his life while he becomes [[AxCrazy more and more unhinged]] and laughs maniacally. Ruka is forced to use a card that renders the duel a draw to save his life in the end.
* Aki in the early seasons. There's even an ending in the Tag Force games where she makes plans to reward the player character for dueling alongside her by ''unleashing all of her power on them''. While sporting a [[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130220152135/yugioh/images/e/e8/Duel_Academy_Akiza_Izinski.png nightmarish grin]] no less.
* Everything about the [[EldritchAbomination Earthbound Immortals/Gods/Jibakushin]]. [[SealedEvilInACan Every single]] [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown bloody thing]].

* Divine is a source of this as well, in that he takes kids, basically who are mistreated, and trains them into being psychic weapons. And if your not strong enough to rip your enemy limb from limb, well, YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness...like anyone would miss you.
