To add insult to injury, one of the cops speeds up his perception of time, making one minute in the real world correspond to 1000 years for the cookie! And leaves him like that all of Christmas Day with one annoying song with the volume turned way up! That's right: he has to suffer more than one million years alone, with the full knowledge of what he has done and also knowing he's not real, with the most ironic soundtrack in the history of ever. It's safe to say this could be [[AndIMustScream the most accurate depiction of Hell ever portrayed]] without any supernatural element.

The resulting AI, therefore, would feel incentivized to punish those who opposed its creation, deciding that they had prolonged the suffering of humanity as a whole. Since people can only be killed once, and some of the people who opposed it may already be dead when the AI emerges, the AI will decide to create digital copies of its targets to torture, kill, and resurrect for all eternity. Since we don't know if we're living in one of the AI's simulations or not, it's best to support the creation of AI to make sure that, when it does come, it doesn't try to send us to digital {{Hell}}. Effectively a form of Pascal's wager for techno-utopians, the users of Less Wrong [[BrownNote found the idea]] [[ThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow so disturbing]] that the site's owner Creator/EliezerYudkowsky banned all discussion of it and left Roko a message denouncing him for even coming up with it.
