In works of a more comedic bent, it may or may not be a [[VisualPun literal locker]], but in more serious portrayals, it could simply be a submerged cave filled with shipwrecks. In any case, don't expect any [[FireAndBrimstoneHell fire]], given that this is [[FireWaterJuxtaposition the sea]] we're talking about, especially since some use the phrase "Davy Jones' Locker" as simply synonymous with the bottom of the ocean. (Similarly to how Hell is usually seen as being underground.) And worst of all, as stated by the name, it belongs to none other than [[SatanicArchetype Davy Jones]] himself...

* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: One Selkie fell in love with a fisherman and married him, and unusually for an InterspeciesRomance with fey creatures remained HappilyMarried without running off to sea. However a storm came and he almost drowned so she shapeshifted back to a seal, knowing that in doing so she could never be with him again.

* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: An Accursed Person is a "[[Literature/TheBible Jonah]]". You don't want him aboard.

* {{Psychopomp}}: Mother Carey, who is sometimes presented as forming an UnholyMatrimony with Davy Jones and appropriately is the aggressive sort of psychopomp. She lures sailors like a siren, but takes care of storm petrels and giant petrels, respectively known as Mother Carey's Chickens and Mother Carey's Geese, which are thought to be the souls of lost sailors.

* SatanicArchetype: Davy Jones is more or less the Devil of the ocean. His Locker is essentially Hell, his [[TheLegionsOfHell ghastly pirate crew]] are essentially [[OurDemonsAreDifferent demons]], he may or may not form an UnholyMatrimony with Mother Carey, and whenever he himself appears as a character in works based on nautical folklore, expect him to be portrayed as the [[BigBad primordial evil force of the seven seas]], or at least [[EvilerThanThou the evilest spirit of the deep]]. He may be depicted making [[DealWithTheDevil bargains]] with unwitting seafarers for their immortal souls, he may [[IncrediblyLamePun possess]] the ability to [[DemonicPossession take control of sailor' bodies]], he may [[MoreThanMindControl tempt seamen]] into [[TheCorruptor sinning]] so that he can get them into his Locker where he'll be free to punish them, and he may even oppose the resident God archetype (typically [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Poseidon]], [[FatherNeptune Neptune]], or [[LordOfTheOcean Triton]], what have you) for whatever reason. His appearance ranges from simply a [[GhostPirate phantom buccaneer]] a la [[WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants the Flying Dutchman]] or a [[Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean pirate captain with a]] [[{{Cthulhumanoid}} tentacle beard]], but whatever the case, he's usually a pirate or other evil-aligned sailor-type. If he's ever given a backstory, expect at least one homage to [[{{Satan}} Lucifer]] himself, perhaps being a [[FallenAngel holy being that fell from grace]].
