Haim mostly play a variant of Southern Californian soft rock heavily influenced by 80's pop and 90s ContemporaryRAndB. Their music at times recalls top forty heroes like Music/Eagles and Music/DestinysChild, though they're most often compared to a (hopefully far less dysfunctional) Music/FleetwoodMac.

In 2010 the sisters added drummer Dash Hutton, formerly of PunkRock groups Wires On Fire and Slang Chicken, and released the EP Forever to critical acclaim. Singles Don't Save Me and The Wire kept their momentum going, but no album was forthcoming until "Days Are Gone" finally emerged on September 30, 2013, immediately blitzing the charts and by most accounts validating the hype.

hype. They were subsequently nominated for "Best New Artist" at the 2015 Grammy Awards, losing to Music/SamSmith. They then got another big break when they were tapped by Music/TaylorSwift to be the opening act on a leg of her blockbuster 1989 tour. Their second album, Something to Tell You was released in 2017 and got mixed reviews, with it being commonly criticized for being overproduced and sounding too much like straight pop music. They won back the crowd with their third album, Women in Music Part. III, a much more raw and personal album, which earned unanimous critical acclaim and netted them two more Grammy nominations.

%% * TheTysonZone: Played with. Though just about any stage antic attributed to Este can be explained by, "Well, it is Este Haim after all....", Danielle and Alana attest that outside of the spotlight she is a relatively restrained person who lives a quiet, normal life. Este herself had discussed how the energy of the concerts turn her into a different person than she is in private.
%% * TertiarySexualCharacteristics: A good summary of how Este dresses. Contrast to Danielle's mostly gender-neutral wardrobe.

* :All three sisters have strong California accents and engage in large amounts of valspeak. Este is the most flagrant.

* ChekhovsGun: Their hit single Forever was released as a free download on their website in 2012.
* ChekhovsGunman: During the mid-2000s, Este and Danielle were members of a band The Valli Girls, which never reached commercial success, but managed to have a song featured on the soundtrack of the 2005 film Film/TheSisterhoodOfTheTravelingPants. In addition, Danielle previously worked as a session musician and touring guitarist for a number of prominent musicians.
* Cloudcuckoolander: Este and Alana are prone to being this.
* CoolShades: All three sisters love to wear them.

* GradeSkipper: Collegiate example - Este completed a five-year Ethnomusicology degree in two years.
* HeAlsoDId: Este is a licensed real estate agent.

* IconicOutfit: Well, iconic bottoms. Danielle almost always wears pants, Este almost always wears skirts and Alana almost always wears shorts.
* IllGirl: Este, who is a Type-I Diabetic.
* NWordPrivileges J Word Privileges: Considered naming themselves "The Bagel Bitches" (all three are Jewish) before settling on their last name.
* MohsScaleOfRockAndMetalHardness: 2-3 in the studio with live versions up a notch or two. Live covers of "Oh Well" shoot straight to a 6, inverting SurprisinglyGentleSong but good.
* Motormouth: Alana, big time.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: While treated as an equal by the Haim sisters and being perfectly content to stay in the background, drummer Dash Hutton is largely perceived to be a tack-on or a tag-along.
** Hutton's role is redundant as well, as both Danielle and Alana are competent drummers and recorded the percussion parts on Haim's music themselves. The reason they recruited a drummer to play live with them is based off their father's advice for none of them to become percussionists.
** As of May 2017 Dash Hutton is no longer performing live with Haim; the new drummer is Jody Giachello. Presumably the trope now applies to him.
* NearDeathExperience: Este claims to have nearly died on stage when her blood sugar ran dangerously low during a concert (she is Type-I diabetic).

* NeverHeardThatOneBefore: On Website/YouTube a video surfaced of Alana eating (and enthusiastically enjoying) Percy's Pigs candy in the UK. Cue a bunch of joking comments about how she can't eat pig because she's Jewish.
** According to The Other Wiki, Percy Pig candy as sold in the UK actually does contain pork gelatin, therefore it is not kosher.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: While Este may come across as your average airhead valley girl, she's a lot more intelligent than one would expect at first glance. As noted above, she completed a five year Ethnomusicology degree in only two.
* TheOneGuy: Dash.

* RefugeInAudacity: Este is prone to this. From swearing like a trucker, to telling an audience in graphic detail about her desire to have sex with Andrew Garfield, to expressing satisfaction at her ass being broadcast across Madison Square Garden, to stage diving in skirts and dresses, she does not hold back.
** "He wouldn't even have a dick left! I would chisel that shit with my labia!"
** "Everybody's clapping, so you must really like the song or my tampon string is hanging out and my boobs are hanging out."

* SiblingRivalry: All three sisters perfectly correspond with the generic psychological profiles for siblings. Este, the oldest, is bold, strongly confident, highly sociable and is protective of her younger siblings. Danielle, the middle child, is quiet, reserved and commands the least amount of attention of the three. Alana, the youngest, is a Motormouth who constantly vies to be the center of attention, often competing against Este for the favor. This dynamic comes off strongly in interviews, where Este and Alana compete for the microphone the whole time while Danielle stays in the background and generally doesn't speak unless addressed.
** The fact that each sister's height corresponds with her sibling status make it even freakier.

* SpotlightStealingSquad: Haim serves as this at just about every festival they perform at; their performances frequently overshadow the other bands amongst both concert goers and the media covering the event.
** And Este is pretty good at capturing everyone's attention away from the other two sisters.
* StatuesqueStunner: The sisters appear to be tall women, with Danielle standing at 5'9", but Este, at 6 feet tall, takes the cake. Only Alana, at 5'7", averts this.
* TheStoic: Danielle, at least in comparison to Este and Alana's exaggerated personalities.
* TheTysonZone: Played with.
* TeensAreShort: A strange variation of this, Este, the oldest sister, is the tallest and Alana, the youngest, is the shortest.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: A good summary of how Este dresses. Contrast to Danielle's mostly gender-neutral wardrobe.
* Tomboy: Danielle's fashion involves traditionally masculine clothing (t-shirts, jeans, etc...)
