** Mileena is despised by her former allies and servants, particularly the Edenians for mocking Kitana. The Tarkatans are really the only ones that care about her.
** Hotaru and Shang Tsung are despised by many. The former for ransacking and destroying Li Mei's village on Raiden's orders, the latter for his alliance with the evil thunder god and the Seidan zealot. That said, both had bad reputations as villains even before that, due to Hotaru acting as a tyrant in Seido to always keep order and Shang Tsung working for Shao Kahn.
** Kano is loathed for kidnapping and torturing Cassie along with his own son Kevin. He also kidnapped, raped, and tortured Kabal’s widow when he was a revenant which resulted in Kevin’s conception and before all of that he arranged for Kintaro to maim Kabal and try to murder Stryker.

* BadassBisexual: Tanya and Mileena, as both are [[PsychoLesbian Psycho Lesbians]] and [[DepravedBisexual Depraved Bisexuals]].

** Goro laughed at the offscreen deaths of Sheeva's champions at his own hands.

* AntiVillain: Scorpion, as he's more of a NobleTopEnforcer for Raiden and as he objects to Cassie's torture by Kano. [[spoiler:Then he pulls a HeelFaceTurn.]]

** For Nitara, it was either side with Raiden in exchange for the chance to defeat Ashrah and keep her people safe or become the Thunder God's enemy and have her people suffer the same fate as his other enemies.
* AntagonisticOffspring: Daegon is this to Delia.

** Shujinko carries much guilt for unknowingly helping Onaga and for his actions while under Havik’s control during the blood code.

** Kira is shown to have struggled a lot with forgiveness from her actions as a Black Dragon member.

** Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade also qualify as this.
** Same applies for Jacqui and Takeda.
** Mileena and Tanya are also this.

** Seeing as she is his DarkMistress, Skarlet and Daegon also qualify as this.

* AntiHero: The revenants, led by Liu Kang. They only ally with Fujin and Kotal Kahn because of what [[OmnicidalManiac Raiden could do to all of the realms.]] Same goes for Scorpion, Kira, Rain, and Frost. This changes once they are revived by Jade/Delia, though.
** Darrius views himself as this InUniverse. Whether or not he's right is debatable.

** Daegon. His crimes such as [[SelfMadeOrphan killing his parents]] and arranging Suchin's murder are not ignored, but [[EvenEvilHasStandards he clearly has standards]], as proven with his disgust with Kano for being a traitor and [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil rapist]] both things he hates. He also looks out for his subordinates, even standing up for Skarlet when Reiko insults her and not tolerating disrespect toward his followers.
** Nitara. She's quite TheBaroness who prefers to use her brain like a Rosa Klebb rather than her looks like a Sexpot and is not above making alliance with unsavory characters as well as possibly using deception too like in the original timeline. Ultimately, however, she does all of this to protect her people and try to free her realm which was merged with Outworld by Shao Kahn and only joined Raiden out of fear when he blackmailed her by threatening her people and offering to let her defeat Ashrah.

** Raiden and his allies mock at Li Mei's plight in chapter 73.
* ActionDad: Johnny Cage, Kenshi, Jax, Kano, and Scorpion qualify as this.

* ActionGirl[=/=]FemmeFatale[=/=]LadyOfWar: With the exception of Vera and Viviana, who are civilians, both sides feature several female fighters.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Kira, who was undeniably a villain with little focus in the original timeline of the games, is an AntiHero here with genuine regret for her crimes as a Black Dragon member and has a sympathetic backstory as well as a more humane portrayal.
** Daegon is given more of a somewhat sympathtic AntiVillain portrayal here in that while his crimes such as murdering Suchin and his parents are acknowledged, he is also a case of EvenEvilHasStandards as shown by his disgust for traitors and rapists such as Kano.
** Frost, while still keeping some of her cockiness from the original timeline in the games, is also more sympathetic and ultimately chooses to remain loyal to Sub-Zero when given the chance to join Raiden for the Dragon Medallion.

** While Kano is an undeniably sleazy bastard, nothing in canon ever pointed to him being a flat-out rapist.

** Fujin and Liu Kang also qualify, as they are equally worried - Liu Kang knows the Thunder God will target the Netherrealm after destroying Outworld, while Fujin is worried about the mental state of his fellow Earthrealm defenders (especially Johnny Cage and Sonya, whose daughter was kidnapped by Raiden so they wouldn't interfere with his plans).

** Daegon also counts, as he does not take kindly to any of his Red Dragon comrades being disrespected.

* AffablyEvil: Shang Tsung is a seemingly BenevolentBoss to Moloch, Drahmin, Kia, and Jataaka. He's FauxAffablyEvil towards his enemies, though, especially Liu Kang and Delia.

* AbusiveParents: Kano is quite abusive to his son Kevin aka Kano Jr., and there are several instances where he's scaring and beating the crap out of his son as part of the Black Dragon initiation. Several characters find it morally ''appalling'' that Kano would stoop so low to abuse his own son.
** Kira's parents were extremely abusive and even sold her into sexual slavery when she was nine.
** Argus was verbally abusive towards Daegon and abandoned Rain.

** Goro also laughed at the deaths of Sheeva's champions.
** Skarlet, Goro, and the Red Dragon soldiers all laugh at watching Daegon punch Kano in the face for mocking him.

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Raiden is virtually loathed by all of his ex-allies as well as most of his current allies, given what he's done so far. Most of Raiden's underlings — even those who joined his faction just to satisfy their sadism — obey him out of ''sheer'' terror and not out of loyalty.
** Mileena is also despised by her former allies and servants, particularly the Edenians for mocking Kitana.
** Hotaru and Shang Tsung are also despised by many. The former for ransacking and destroying Li Mei's village on Raiden's orders, the latter for his alliance with the evil thunder god and the Seidan zealot.
** Kano seems to be loathed by many, for what he and Raiden did to Cassie, as well as his crimes in general.

* BadassInCharge: On both sides:
** For Kotal Kahn's side, it's Fujin, Kotal Kahn, and Liu Kang who are taking charge, with Johnny Cage, Sindel, Sonya, Kitana, Reptile, Jax, and Darrius as Lancers.
** For Raiden's side, it's Raiden with Shang Tsung and Hotaru as CoDragons and Daegon, Mavado, Kano, Havik, and Reiko as [[EvilGenius Evil Geniuses]].

* AdaptationalVillainy: In the original timeline, though Raiden was an AntiVillain, he was not the BigBad. In this story however, he's the main antagonist.

* BadassGay[=/=]StraightGay: Kung Jin.

* BadassGrandpa: Kano, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Jax, Smoke, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kenshi, Bo' Rai Cho, and Shujinko count as this.

Even his other warriors (Ermac, Reptile, Erron Black) are not in good shape, but despite their situation, he still cares about them.
