* ThisIsReality: Deputy Inspector Minoura ''attempts'' to pull one of these on [[GreatDetective Ranpo Edogawa]], saying that cases can't be solved the way they are in crime novels, but it falls flat since Ranpo really ''is'' as good at solving crimes as he claims to be.

Inaccurate. Atsushi was kicked out of the orphanage two weeks before the story began.

* ExtremelyShortTimespan: Atsushi gets kicked out of the orphanage, saves Dazai, succeeds his admission test and gets banged up by the mafia all on the same day. Also, the entirety of the Dark Era takes place over five days.

* INeverSaidItWasPoison: The killer in episode 5 gives himself away because of this. [[spoiler: Sergeant Sugimoto states that the killer shot the victim, then fired two more to make it look like a Port Mafia assassination. As Atsushi and Dazai note later, this implies that he knew she died from the first shot, which he only could have known if ''he'' was the one who fired them.]]

* WritersCannotDoMath: Mostly in the form of ImprobableAge, Kunikida is the biggest victim of this (he used to be a math teacher before joining the Agency, despite being only 22 years old and one of the Agency's earlier members, looking like he's reaching thirty), but the timeline of the also 22-year-old Dazai's backstory (or [[MysteriousPast what's known of it at least]]) is inconsistent and improbable as well.

** A justified example of this trope is Vice Minister Tanzo Tonan from the Ministry of Justice. [[spoiler: While he is part of a lawfully good organization and was generous to give Fukuzawa the purifying Shikyu Award during the ceremony, he ''detests'' the Armed Detective Agency for including members who committed murder crimes in the past, especially their president for assassinating the former's father and other war hawks during the end of the Great War. Due to this, he assembled a secret group of government officials to make the Armed Detective Agency pay for their past crimes, unbeknownst to everyone. After suddenly running into Atsushi, Tonan himself said with a sinister smile that the Armed Detective Agency's doom on that day was already decided, although he is ''not'' associated with the Decay of the Angel to begin with.]]

The story begins with Atsushi Nakajima is kicked out of his orphanage. To make matters worse, there are rumors of a tiger on the loose and when he gets to a river, starving and with nowhere to go, there's a guy [[StartsWithASuicide committing suicide]].
