One benefit of this is to [[DistinctiveAppearances distinguish characters]] [[{{Mukokuseki}} from one another]], especially in works with OnlySixFaces. If the work is SpeculativeFiction and the world in question is not meant to be similar to ours, giving everyone unnatural hair colors also heightens this fantasy. See PeopleOfHairColor.

* The ''Anime/PrettyCure'' franchise is full of technicolor hair. Those in ''Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure'' and ''Anime/FutariWaPrettyCureSplashStar'' have more-or-less natural (or close to it) colors. But after ''Anime/YesPrettyCure5'' the girls get widely colored hair, mostly in a wild case of color coordination. It's usually the girls who are Precures who get crazy hair colors, to single them out as special; normal characters tend to have normal colors. Also, the Precures' hair colors are fairly dull while in civilian form, only to brighten up or [[PowerDyesYourHair change color entirely]] when they transform.

** In ''Anime/HeartcatchPrettyCure'', the main leads have raspberry-pink hair (Tsubomi, Mizuki, and Futaba), blue hair (Erika), light violet hair (Momoka and Sakura), and deep violet hair (Yuri).
** ''Anime/SmilePrecure'' gives its leads a rainbow of hair; magenta for Miyuki, blood red for Akane, yellow for Yayoi, green for Nao, and blue for Erika. All but Yayoi inherited their hair colours from their mothers.
** In ''Anime/DokiDokiPrecure'', there's magenta for Mana, blue for Rikka, purple for Makoto, and bright yellow for Regina.
** ''Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure'' has magenta for Megumi and Kaori, blue for Hime, purple for Iona, and gray for [[spoiler:Maria]].

* ''WesternAnimation/ZekesPad'' gives each character an abnormal hair colour, even though Zeke is the only one with a connection to the supernatural. Among the main cast, Zeke and his father Alvin have cerulean-blue hair, Jay has teal hair, Ida has purple hair, Ike has blood red hair, Rachel has light green hair, and Maxine has dark green hair. Seeing that purple-haired Ida and blue-haired Alvin have a redheaded son and a green-haired daughter, hair colour seems to be completely random in this universe, rather than genetic like in real life. However, all of Jay's ancestors in "Family Portrait" are drawn with teal hair, and the same episode's depiction of Zeke's ancestors give them the same hair colours as the present-day members (Idina and Izzy have blue hair, Calvin has purple hair, Raphael has red hair, and Zack has green hair), implying that the modern Palmers inherited their hair colours from them.

The only character whose hair color is considered unusual is Gyokuyou, whose [[SignificantGreenEyedRedhead red hair and green eyes]] mark her foreign ancestry.

* ''VideoGame/LittleFlowerFairy'': Orange, green, and purple hair, among other colors, can be found on the fairies. This is to establish that they're not human. This was carried over to the video game's TV series, ''Animation/FlowerAngel'', with the trade-off that some of the ''humans'' have wild hair colors as well, such as Xiaoai and Eric with their pink and blue hair, respectively.

*If you live in the world of ''Manga/{{Lady}}'' and have pink or purple hair, chances are that you're a horrible person:
**Madeleine Waverly has pink hair and is a WickedStepmother to Lynn and Sarah. She hates the fact that they're George's biological children and is cruel to them at every turn, going as far as to tell Lynn, at 5 years old, that she should go back to Japan and everyone would be better off without her. [[spoiler: When George breaks off his engagement to Madeleine, Madeleine's (also pink haired) daughter Mary is so enraged that she returns from Switzerland to join Lynn's school just so she can tarnish her reputation and prevent her from gaining the Lady's Crest]].
**[[spoiler: Jeanne has purple hair and is an abusive mother to her daughter, Sophie. She tried to raise Sophie to be cruel and manipulative like her, but thankfully Sophie broke away from her influence thanks to Lynn and Leonard.]]
**Vivian has purple hair. She's regarded as a very beautiful woman by many, and is often followed around by an adoring Girl Posse that view her as near-ethereal. She's also an AcademicAlphaBitch that rivals Lynn.

Ironically, the only character known to dye their hair is the FieryRedhead [[SuperToughness Kirishima]].

* In ''Manga/DemonSlayerKimetsuNoYaiba'', most civilians have black hair, but more important characters tend to have brightly colored hair whether they're humans or demons. Among the main characters, Tanjiro's brown hair sometimes borders on dark magenta in some lighting, and Inosuke's black hair has blue highlights. The Hashira have even more outrageous hair colors; Shinazugawa and Uzui somehow have white hair despite being young adults, Rengoku has blond hair with streaks of red (which his father and brother have as well), and Mitsuri has pink and green hair. The only characters whose hair colors are explicitly considered unusual are Zenitsu, (whose blond hair is MistakenForDyed even though it actually changed color after he was [[LockedIntoStrangeness miraculously struck by lightning]]) and Mitsuri (whose outlandish hair colors were the result of [[BigEater eating 170 sakura mochi a day for eight months]], and a potential suitor even rejected her because of it).
