* ''Series/{{Lewis}}'': The opening scene of episode "[[Recap/LewisS4E1 The Dead of Winter]]" shows reenactors performing a battle from the English Civil War that was fought at that location, only for one of the reenactors to get shot for real, in the arm, one of the guns having been loaded. It turns out to have been a means to distract attention from a murder being carried out nearby at the same time.

Still, it's worthy to note that many historical war films make use of reenactment societies as readily equipped extras, e. g. in ''Film/{{Gettysburg}}'' and its prequel ''Film/GodsAndGenerals''. Making enough period accurate costume uniforms and prop weapons for a large group of extras is so ridiculously expensive that very few film productions even have a large enough budget to do one scene requiring a large group of extras that looks period accurate without using reenactors who brought their own costumes and weapons (some of which can cost as much as, if not more than a new car).

* ''AmericanHousewife'', family patriarch Greg, a history professor, takes his daughters to participate in a Revolutionary War battle. Youngest Anna-Kat likes being a nurse while eldest Taylor finds the whole thing only slightly less boring than school, especially the lack of technology and simulated violence. Remarkably she convinces the other re-enactors to take a stand against all the uptightness as they feel the whole ordeal should be more fun.

* In ''TabletopGame/DragonlanceShadowOfTheDragonQueen'', the village of Vogler reenacts a historical battle between Solamnia and Istar as part of its annual Kingfisher festival. The local militia plays the former part, while visiting mercenaries play the latter part. Unbeknownst to the Voglerites, the mercenaries have been bought off by the evil Red Dragon Army, and the mock battle turns into a bloodbath when the treacherous mercenaries bring out real weapons.

* In ''Manga/CesareIlCreatoreCheHaDistrutto'', which takes place in 1491, the students of the University of Pisa have a Crusades reenactment as a major school event. The students are already [[AbsurdlyDividedSchool grouped into associations by their home countries]], and the associations are randomly assigned to the Crusaders or Islamic sides. Most of the students get excited over the chance to do something physical, but NonActionGuy main character Angelo would rather not hurt anyone. Serious injuries and deaths aren't out of the question. This event takes up the bulk of manga vol.5, to the point where readers might forget about the political maneuvering, arson investigation, and other major plot threads. It's that kind of slow-paced, historical SliceOfLife series.

ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: A bunch of people simulating famous battles and wars, especially (if American) UsefulNotes/TheAmericanCivilWar, (if English) the UsefulNotes/EnglishCivilWar, (if anything from French to Russian) UsefulNotes/TheNapoleonicWars and (if European) TheMiddleAges, the UsefulNotes/ThirtyYearsWar or UsefulNotes/WorldWarII. A character already known to be a history, military, or weapons geek will probably be in attendance. Sometimes they'll be the descendant of a famous general.
