* The FinalBoss of Knuckles' route in ''Videogame/Sonic3AndKnuckles'' is Mecha Sonic, which at first plays exactly the same as his battle in Sonic and Tails' route (that's it, not too hard). Maleficent has been the BigBad for the whole game, but by the time the player reaches her, something is deeply amiss with Riku who has been possessed by a mysterious hooded entity. The final fight with Maleficent only comes about due to Riku impaling her to unleash her darkness, and upon her defeat, Riku gloats that she was an UnwittingPawn of the Heartless. It paves the way for the ''true'' BigBad to emerge from the shadows.
** ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'': Xemnas is seemingly defeated after a multi-round gauntlet of fights against him and his fortress, and even has a sobering final moment with the heroes before fading away like all the Organization members did. We get a cutscene that wraps up the main subplot of Roxas and Namine's fates, and everyone congratulates each other for their victory as a way out of there opens up. Everybody but Sora and Riku goes through the Dark Corridor... then Xemnas rises again, piloting a massive dragon-like monster. Three more rounds of fighting commence.
** ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'': Terra has just finished pummeling Master Xehanort to a pulp in retaliation for all his crimes. Then an explosion goes off, and Master Xehanort declares that signals that Ventus is in trouble. The old man then uses the distraction to unlock his heart, and then [[GrandTheftMe steals Terra's body on the spot]]. There's one more fight to be had before the end of Terra's campaign. This was hinted at by his defeat quote, which should deflate any seasoned player:

** The penultimate level has Nekomew finally reaching the potty... but then a monster pops out as it tries to drag him down the toilet through a quick-time event. Once he escapes, the level cuts back to the last quarter, and then the level finishes proper.
** The final level sees Nekomew finally reaching the toilet with no casualties after facing many monsters on his way. The results screen not showing up is a sign that there is more to the level; as the house suddenly catches on fire with the bladder meter changing into blood as Nekomew tries to make his way back to his parents before the evil former mom shows up.
