* One episode of ''Series/GroundedForLife'' had the Finnerty's call on the help of Claudia's Uncle Sal to help fix their bathroom, with her husband Sean believing Sal to be in TheMafia, but Claudia's convinced he's just a very effective businessman and Sean is reinforcing Italian stereotypes. Later, Sean and his brother Eddie do a favor for Sal that involves leaving a car in an abandoned area to be picked up, and they tear apart the car, looking for something illegal and find nothing. It looks like Sean was just overreacting, but Sal reveals he is a mobster when he notices [[ThatPoorCat a cat they accidentally injured while driving away]] and reveals it belongs to "Fat Philly," a mob hitman (who [[DisproportionateRetribution once broke someone's arms just for petting the cat]], and later buried a guy in a bridge for forgetting to feed it), and says he will smooth things over with Philly for them, but they owe him ''another'' favor.

* Played with in the "Series/iCarly" episode “iReunite with Missy” in which Carly’s old friend Missy returns and schemes to get rid of Sam. Where this differs is that Sam and the audience know that Missy is up to know good, but Carly is none the wiser and accuses Sam of being irrationally jealous until Missy gloats about her success to Sam not realizing Carly is standing right behind her.

** “The BFFs” sees Gumball’s previous best friend Fuzzy come back to visit after moving to Minnesota to spend the day with him. Darwin spends the whole day absolutely seething with jealousy and tries to mask it with suspicions about Fuzzy’s true intentions. Gumball, of course, believes Darwin is being irrational, until it’s revealed that Fuzzy planned to lead Gumball all the way back to Minnesota and keep him prisoner (succeeding at the former) as revenge for “betraying” him.

** Similarly, ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' has a couple episodes where Terra is presented as Beast Boy’s new girlfriend and Raven’s suspicions are dismissed as her being jealous, only for it to be revealed that she was manipulating him the whole time.

* The first episode of ''WesternAnimation/Gravity Falls'' sees Mabel falling in love with an emo teen named Norman who her brother believes is actually a zombie in disguise. He starts to think that maybe he was wrong about Norman until he sees a video of him accidentally detaching his hand; however, when the truth is revealed, it turns out that Norman wasn’t a zombie…he was a bunch of gnomes in a trenchcoat.

In some cases the character may be an old friend (or even love interest) of one of the characters seeking to reconnect after they lost touch, or rather a completely new one. If the former, expect their motivation to be bitterness over what they perceive as them being “replaced” and seeking to get rid of the character’s current friend(s) to retake their position. If the latter, expect them to be cool, charismatic, and seemingly better at everything the suspicious character does (which may also be true in the former case) until they are revealed to be manipulating the character for their own evil agenda or otherwise taking advantage of them. In both cases, expect the suspicious character to be chided over their perceived jealousy and questioned as to why they can’t just be happy for their friend until the antagonist’s motivations are revealed.

* ''WesternAnimation/AvengersAssemble:'' In "The Thunderbolts", Tony refuses to trust the new super-team on the block simply because they're stealing the spotlight, but the episode ends with them proving they're alright. The next episode 'reveals' they're actually Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil pretending to be superheroes (though by that episode it's ''Hawkeye'' who's suddenly got the issue with them).

* In one episode of ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls1998'', the girls invite all their female friends to a sleepover. Among their guests is a girl who looks like a poorly disguised Mojo Jojo. Immediately suspicious that "she" is up to something, the girls keep their guard up in the event something happens. However, everything that at first seems like a dastardly scheme is benign and harmless (even a supposed attempt to stab everyone turning out to be a game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey), leading the girls to believe they were mistaken about the girl before joining in the fun. However, once everyone falls asleep, it's revealed the girl ''was'' Mojo and he was waiting for a moment to slip into the Professor's lab to snag a bottle of Antidote X, which he doses the girls with to render them powerless.

* In ''WesternAnimation/AlvinAndTheChipmunksMeetTheWolfman'', it is mentioned that Alvin's horror-movie obsession and tendency to accuse innocent people in town of being monsters has gotten the trio in trouble many times before. Most of the movie makes it look like his suspicion that their new neighbor is a werewolf might just be more of the same. Nope, he's actually a werewolf.
