* ''VideoGame/AnotherCode R: Journey into Lost Memories'': Ashley Robins does this when she and her father Richard are held at gunpoint in Chapter 7 of the ''Recollection'' remake. [[spoiler:When Sofia Callaghan demands the disc containing the ANOTHER source code, she hands over her band's demo disc instead.]] The switcheroo grants just enough time for Richard to wrestle the person to the ground and allow Ashley to escape with the data.

* In the 1993 movie ''The Bullion Boys'', a fake bar of gold is shown to the dockers being brought into the plot to steal the real gold bullion. Inevitably this is a ChekhovsGun when it gets swopped for the one real bar of gold they end up with (why the conspirators would bother making a fake gold bar in the first place is a mystery).

* In ''Goering's List'', at the end CIA agent Mike Semko pulls some strings and has a MasterForger make a copy of ''Landscape with a Square Tower'' by Creator/RembrandtVanRijn, lost since UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, which is then swapped out for the real thing in the NYPD's art theft division. Semko delivers the real painting to Mossad agent Rachel Sidrane, whose grandmother is its rightful owner, and from whom it was stolen by the Nazis during the war. Semko reasons that while the forgery would be discovered almost immediately, it would simply be dismissed as a the late owner being scammed (the owner had actually purchased the painting from Herman Georing's personal collection of stolen works and was thus added to the titular list of art collectors who could be blackmailed at a later date, which was obtained by an East German terrorist, kicking off the book's plot).
