* Fred Hicks of ''TabletopGame/SpiritOfTheCentury'' and other [[UsefulNotes/{{FUDGE}} Fate RPG]] system games fame referred to this as "the secret language of character sheets" in a blog post. To summarize, it means that the contents of a character sheet should be read as a player's vote for what kinds of things they want to do in a game. As an example, if nobody took stealth skills then don't rely on a stealth sequence as mandatory to advance the plot - let people bash, charm, bribe, or even magic their way around an obstacle instead, if those are the abilities they focused on. As well, if only one person took a particular ability, why, there you have a perfectly tailored way to put them into the limelight.

*The ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration''/''ComicBook/XMen'' crossover novel “Planet X” features a team of X-Men being sent to the ''Franchise/StarTrek'' universe where they have already previously met the crew of the ''Enterprise''-E during a clash with Kang the Conqueror, leading to the ''Enterprise'' taking the mutants on board just in time to investigate a crisis where a Federation-allied planet has had a small percentage of its population manifest mutant-esque superpowers. When the ''Enterprise'' arrives, they come into conflict with another ship attempting to take the ‘transformed’ for themselves, which leads to the various X-Men present all having the chance to make an impact on the subsequent campaign. A particular example is when the ''Enterprise'' has to send a boarding party on to the enemy ship to shut down their shields long enough to send a larger team to attack; Nightcrawler can just about teleport across to the other ship through their shields if the ''Enterprise'' can get in close enough, and while Kurt has limited knowledge of alien technology and would be left exhausted after teleporting across that distance, Data can accompany him in complete certainty that he won’t experience any fatigue and has all the alien technical knowledge they could ask for. [[spoiler:The way the X-Men arrive just in time to make a difference is later further justified with the revelation that Q was responsible for them arriving in the ''Trek'' universe under the relevant circumstances]].

** Chapter 128 features Shizuka, Kusuri, Chiyo, Momiji, Yaku, and Suu participating in a ''VideoGame/FallGuys''-based game. Each girl is able to navigate the obstacles to ensure success. Chiyo's OCD triggers her into organizing an obstacle course, clearing the way. Shizuka's extremely low weight lets her bounce high enough to reach the goal and collect the enough of the items needed to pass for everyone. Kusuri's and Yaku's resistance to drugs prevents a sleeping gas from affecting them, allowing them to pull everyone through. Suu's NumberObsession allows her to guide everyone through a game that requires standing on the right numbers at the right time. Finally, the last round requires everyone to hang onto a pillar without falling off. Everyone forms a chain to keep Shizuka from falling, with everybody ultimately held up by Momiji's "nutso grip strength" (or "grope strength", if you agree with Chiyo). Their combined skills allows everyone to succeed and win their prizes.

Then he uses the Space Stone to teleport around them, but Hawkeye and Black Widow spot the pattern and aim where he's ''going'' to be. He uses the Reality Stone to convince them they've already won, but Cap's too grounded to believe it. And finally, he just starts blasting them with the Power Stone, which is the point at which Iron Man unveils his plan to stop him altogether.

* One episode of ''WesternAnimation/WolverineAndTheXMen2009'' invokes this trope explicitly. A ship carrying mutants to Genosha is attacked by pirates in search of mutants with useful powers. They end up kidnapping all of the adults and leaving the kids behind on the sinking ship. The kids' abilities are: breathing underwater, making "sticky goop", talking to machines, making things shatter by focusing on them, and butterfly wings. Initially, they mope around on the ship because they believe their powers are useless, but [[Characters/XMen70sMembers Nightcrawler]] appears to show them that no-one is useless. At Nightcrawler's direction, they shatter some cargo crates and have the underwater-breathing kid glue them onto the breaches using the sticky goop. The girl who talks to machines navigates the boat, and the girl with butterfly wings makes and puts up a flag of questionable usefulness. Then they chase after the pirate ship, where Nightcrawler uses ''his'' powers to duel the pirate captain and save the grownups.

* Played straight most of the time on ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfTheGalaxyRangers''. There were usually computers to hack, hostile environments, something that could usually be psychically "read," and a need for the captain to coordinate things. However, the show also loved AbsenteeActor, so just as often they'd end up short a teammate who would have been really handy at that particular moment.
