* [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Rickard Stark]] has this problem with his new tenant [[VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}} Lord Cyril Fairchild]], who is, by Westerosi standards, insanely generous and forgiving, dumping massive fortunes into the North's economy and ignoring what Rickard thinks was borderline murder attempt from Brandon. The problem is that while we as readers know Lord Cyril is beyond such petty trifles, Rickard doesn't, and is wondering exactly what is it that the young foreigner wants from him and his country, and even though the gap between Westerosi and Yharnamite mentalities is far closer than that of the Great Ones, it's still more than enough to make effective communication insanely hard for Rickard.

* Nagito Komaeda from ''VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair'' is an interesting interpretation of this. He was born suffering a vicious cycle of horrible luck followed by amazing luck followed by horrible luck, repeat ad nauseum; the plane he was riding on with his parents as a kid was hijacked, but a meteor hit it and sent it hurtling out of the sky, allowing him to survive, but he was the only passenger that made it out. He inherited his parents' fortune, only to be held ransom for it, but found a winning lottery ticket in the dumpster his captors abandoned him in. He's extremely wary of when good things happen to him, because he knows an awful turn of events is imminent.

* In ''Anime/MedakaBox'', Naze Youka/[[spoiler: Kujira Kurokami]] is eventually revealed to be a victim of this sort of philosophy - essentially a combination of versions 4, 5 and 7. Growing up in a wealthy, loving family, possessing both prodigous intelligence and beauty, she despaired as her studies revealed to her that great achivements inevitably rose from adversity - believing that, by virtue of essentially being born with every conceiveable advantage, she was doomed to a life of mediocricy. So of course, she ran away from home, started wearing bandages around her head to disguise her beauty, deliberately set herself up to be ostracized and bullied, [[spoiler: and used self-hypnosis to forget her happy memories... and her sister.]]

* This is Fortune's entire schtick in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2''. She has somehow been blessed with an involuntary, psychic "luck" ability that renders her untouchable by bullets and thus invincible on the battlefield, but she despises this good fortune due to how desperately she wants to die - her "good fortune" was preceded by the deaths of her father, mother, husband, unborn child, and the majority of Dead Cell, leaving her suicidal with no way of getting what she wants. The whole scenario was [[spoiler:set up this way by The Patriots, with the knowledge that she would secretly revel in the drama and play into their hands in her quest for revenge.]]

* Misery from ''WesternAnimation/RubyGloom'', on most days, suffers from extraordinary bad luck, from injuries to illnesses to natural disasters following her at all times. However, in the episode “Disaster Becomes You”, which takes place on a Friday the 13th, this is swapped to good luck while everyone else suffers her normal bad luck. She hates her good luck due to this massive break in her everyday routine, and does things like standing outside in a lightning storm hoping she gets hit (as she usually does).

* ''Literature/BewareOfChicken'': The Magistrate of Verdant Hill is naturally cautious of cultivators, which is honestly a healthy attitude to have. But it means that every time Jin does something for him out of simple generosity and neighbourliness, his blood pressure rises and his stomach churns, worrying about what Jin expects in return, or what message he might be trying to send. Amusingly, Jin has ''no idea'' of his plight.
--> It was good news! It was a good day!\\
Now, if only his stomach would ''cease its incessant roiling.''

* Some AntiChristmasSongs interpret that the gifts given over "The Twelve Days Of Christmas" are cumulative- i.e. that by the end the receiver has to deal with the logistics of nearly 200 birds, 40 milking cows, 12 pear trees, the headache of more than 30 drummers and pipers playing at the same time, and the lords all fighting each other/disappearing into bedrooms with the ladies and milkmaids.
